Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
you just don't hype shit up like this, ESPECIALLY when Coachella just dropped Prince, and ACL and Lollapalooza just dropped awesome lineups, and then your ace is hole is fucking Widespread Panic.
I actually feel like they somehow managed to subtract from the festival with their addition? Why the hell did they move Jack Johnson for that? Leave him be. I'd rather have him as a headliner than WSP for the second year straight. If you had to move him, at least get someone other than the band that closed the festival last year to repeat.
Honestly, looking at the lineup now, I don't know that I would've decided to come back this year if this is what they sold me when the lineup came out. Allman Brothers were a big selling point for me (I'd never seen them before), along with Jack (but as a headliner) and MMJ. I'm having trouble narrowing down the unique experience that is going to make 2008 a memorable Bonnaroo for me. I guess I'd say Kanye. If they had balls, they would have made Kanye the Sunday night headliner.
These are my sentiments exactly (except for the Kanye part). I'm really, really, tired of Panic closing out the festival. I wasn't that bitter about the whole thing until I found out that they were bumping Jack Johnson down. So now he gets an less stage time? Boo Urns.
I mean, is there any other festival that would have the same headliner this many time?!? Seriously, think Bonnaroo's top competition: They barely repeat headliners, much less have the same one over and over again.
bullhonkey.. i really don't get why they didnt just say they would announce the replacement.. in wake of the Prince addition and Lolla announcement, a big announcement from superfly seemed like it could be a 1 up to those two fests. guess not. this whole deal lost me 2 karma!! i hope it wasnt for being optimistic about a band I REALLY wanted to see...... i won't say the name for fear of further karma loss

And really cupcake...that's all that anyone can do....
Like I said...music is SOOOO subjective....
For me RATM would be a HUGE add...and so many others would HATE HATE HATE on it.... so yeah...it's all SOOOO subjective...
And 'Roo is all about the jam and the vibe...maybe WSP closing EVERY 'Roo is what it's supposed to BE....and like I said Les is a GREAT add...and I actually LOVED Jurassic 5 with Galactic at VooDoo so I'm not a hater...just for ME....this is NOT the "Big Announcement" to replace ABB....it's a lot LESS than ABB FOR ME.... but that's just ME But I've still got:
MMJ ;D ;D UMPS! ;D Raconteurs! ;D Plant/Kraus ;D Ghostland Observatory! ;D Vampire Weekend! ;D Bela Fleck! ;D Disco Biscuits! ;D Cornmeal! ;D Zappa Plays Zappa! ;D and tons more!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
True...in a sense...but.... Festies ARE a business.... You can't coast off your reputation forever.... And if you've got competitors out there busting it and bringing it with real competition and you are recycling the same thing every year....or hyping and falling short....it IS noticed....maybe not by the loyal fans at first....but eventually even the most loyal fanbase will get bored and find other festies...(i.e. look at how many rooers are NOT going to roo this year in favor of Allgood...Echo...Rado etc...THOSE are the ones most satisfied with the Claypool - WSP replacement.....as BIG NEWS what does THAT say??) I think AC/Superfly is walking a very fine line...trying to break new ground and attract a new more diverse crowd but hold on to the old crowd....but are not going far enough with enough BANG in either direction to compete effectively....and getting trapped in the middle....and not fooling ANYONE right now....THAT is the trap they need to get out of QUICKLY!!
i hope they didnt spend 4 mill because they lost..
why do we have to make festivals out to be a competition? All of them celebrate music in wonderful ways.
but these are businesses. they have these fests to make money, believe it or not, and it just didnt seem right to put them in a great position to compete, then announce a band that isnt anything new to roo. if i was someone waiting to buy a ticket, this 'big' announcement wouldnt have helped sway me like the prince announcement, and the kill lolla headliners.

festivals like Allgood, echo, and wanee could actually enhance the business of Bonnaroo.
Starbucks tries to act like Standard Oil, but whenever they set up next to a mom and pop coffee shop, that mom and pop coffee shop actually gets an increase in sales.
Ever notice how Home Depot and Lowes always set up next to each other? It's not because they're trying to put the other one down. They both do better when everyone knows that's the street to pick up building supplies, etc.
I'm a bit worried about the suddenly "chic" atmosphere of festivals. Will it become so stagnant that the entire festival scene gets blown up? I doubt it. Like you said, bonnaroo vets may turn to other festies. There's a stockload of people that will be ready to take their place. Look at all the people on this board that get excited about bonnaroo when they have never even been.
and by the way, I think this year's lineup is very-well balanced. I don't think it shows any sign that Bonnaroo is having trouble booking premium bands.
We got screwed. Flat out. Why would they make such a big deal about an announcement (something they've never done before) only to add stuff thats ALWAYS there. Hey Bonnaroo hows about you try doing someting avant garde like you used to do. So now our three headliners who are not making any exciting new music. Pearl Jam is great but no longer relevant, Metallica hasnt been relevant since the black album came out, and seeing Panic at Bonnaroo is like seeing fat people at McDonalds. No surprise. Meanwhile, Lolla has Radiohead (who just released the best piece of gobblety goop Ive heard in years), the recently reunited and once again socially relevant Rage Against The Machine (Which is also good since its an election year and getting people to think never hurts), and NIN (who are having a bit of a resurgance after Year Zero and Ghosts). Lolla has 3 bands on the cutting edge of the biz and we get three stagnant has beens. Woo Hoo!!! Im so negative right now, but Im so angry. Ive been 5 times and Im moving out of the midwest after this summer so I was hoping my last trip to the far was a memorable one. It was i guess. It was just last year instead.

I just want to say that after the ABB canceled, if the email read "stay tuned for an artist addition on Thursday" everyone here would be bitching about how superfly can't even step up to the plate when challenged.
Not impressed by the additions and slightly disappointed that Jack Johnson may be part of the PJ set, but it's still going to be a tremendous four days with dozens of bands I can't wait to see.
My GF loves WSP and I am sure she will be happy but I go to Bonnaroo for the experience and I am going to get the same experience I had last year to finish out my weekend? That sucks big time. I am no fan of JJ but I was glad there would be something different this year. LAME SUPERFLY I am pissed.
I don't know WSP and all their songs sounded jammy and similar to me. I had a good time but if they were not the only band playing I would probably skip them for almost anyone. Oh well my GF will be happy and I can catch up on some rest if I get bored
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

This announcement was neither big nor exciting. I am happy about Claypool and the Postelles, but Superfly should have thought twice about the way they presented this addition.
