WSP by itself was not too big of a letdown. More of an eh for me. However with Claypool, Superdrag, & Jurassic 5 all together that adds up to a pretty big announcement. I'm pretty satisfied.

All I really wanted was Claypool, so yeah, this is a big add for me. I'm indifferent about Panic. It sucks that the Allmans won't be there, but I'm from Jacksonville, I'll be able to see them and Derek plenty of times. I needed Les for this one to be right. This addition is actually a lot like the lineup itself, besides Metallica: perfect for me, not so much for others.

Widespread Panic will now close out the 7th annual Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival on Sunday, June 15. Perhaps the festival's longest standing veteran, Widespread Panic has performed on Bonnaroo's main stage in 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2007. While Widespread Panic was on hiatus, keyboardist JoJo Hermann and drummer Todd Nance both performed at the festival in 2004. The group was brought on as one of the festival's marquee jam acts after the Allman Brother Band officially canceled its performance earlier this week. The group's powerful, two-set Bonnaroo performances are known both for their energy and varied special guests. Over the years the group has welcomed Steve Winwood, Herbie Hancock, Bob Weir, Warren Haynes, Robert Randolph, Luther and Cody Dickinson, Galactic's Stanton Moore, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Dottie Peoples and the People's Choice Choir to the stage while performing at Bonnaroo.
In addition, Jack Johnson has chosen to join his friends Pearl Jam on the main stage Saturday, June 14, stepping into the slot vacated by the Allman Brothers. Johnson will perform an extended set beginning at sunset, shortly before Pearl Jam close out the day's main stage festivities. Johnson is close friends with the Peal Jam camp and jammed with Eddie Vedder at his Kokua Festival in April, 2007. Many fans also speculate that Johnson will join Pearl Jam onstage during their headlining set.
Bonnaroo has also confirmed a handful of new acts, including Les Claypool, who performed at Bonnaroo each year from 2002-2006. Other new additions include Jurassic 5's Chali 2na, Superdrag, What Made Milwaukee Famous, Adele, Grand Ole Party and The Postelles. got this from relix link below www.relix.com/Features/Daily_News/Widespread_Panic_Confirmed_for_Bonnaroo_200804162855.html

this had details on who was added. Beside WSP, Claypool and Chali 2na there is:

Well, obviously this is a subjective thing....music always is... But in general I think you have to look at it overall as not really that BIG a deal as hyped...I mean...WSP has been there EVERY year..CLOSED every year...so...not big...not NEWS really....Claypool...yeah that one was a good add....Jurassic 5...well actually just PART of Jurassic 5....meh....barely news....so....
In contrast to the top heavy lineup that Lolly just put out in the press....to say you are going to counter a BIG cancel by ABB with a "Big Announcement"....I'd say....downgrade overall...Les is the only positive and I'm not sure I'd take Les over ABB....actually I KNOW I'd not take Les over ABB....and WSP AND Chili 2 Na do NOT make up the diff for me at all....

How anyone can say this isn't "big" surprises me... We have Les Claypool, who will be an incredible set guaranteed, we get a member of J5, Superdrag, and the Postelles (i think i heard some of their stuff a month or two ago and it was tight). Not to mention WSP, who i personally dont care for but I guarantee you their show is packed sunday night.
Plus, all you moaners don't have to wine about having to see Jack Johnson close out Bonnaroo now! Enjoy it!

Knowing that Coachella had just added Prince without warning, I don't understand why they would try to call this a "Big Announcement" in advance. They would have been much better off saying, "ABB replacement to be announced Thusrday"
I said it another thread . . . What we got today would have been a killer artist addition. It makes a weak "Big Announcement"

I think it's funny how so many people were saying they wished Jack Johnson had a normal set instead of closing the festival, and then they added WSP and now everyone's like "oh, shiiiiit, no, not that!" Like a genie came out of the lamp, and you wished to become fabulously wealthy and then your mom died and you got the estate in the will.
I do think Jack leading into Pearl Jam on Saturday sounds cool...sounds like they'll do a set overlap. Maybe JJ starts picking a PJ song and then out comes the band. I like the possibilities. I was starting to look forward to him closing, but c'est la vie.

I actually feel like they somehow managed to subtract from the festival with their addition? Why the hell did they move Jack Johnson for that? Leave him be. I'd rather have him as a headliner than WSP for the second year straight. If you had to move him, at least get someone other than the band that closed the festival last year to repeat.
Honestly, looking at the lineup now, I don't know that I would've decided to come back this year if this is what they sold me when the lineup came out. Allman Brothers were a big selling point for me (I'd never seen them before), along with Jack (but as a headliner) and MMJ. I'm having trouble narrowing down the unique experience that is going to make 2008 a memorable Bonnaroo for me. I guess I'd say Kanye. If they had balls, they would have made Kanye the Sunday night headliner.

meh!
this isnt exactly the "in your face bonnaroo haters" announcement i was looking for, but a lot of the complaints ive seen about roo is things like "ZOMG where is WSP, where is claypool" so i am at least satisfied in the fact that roo is looking to please people who feel theyve strayed too far ffrom their roots.
I dunno, they just said "big" or "exciting." Claypool, to me, is both. And adding last year's closing headliner is technically a big add. It was US that turned "exciting" into "Led Zeppelin."
they're just playing with us. When does the led zeppelin announce come? If we all use the power of positive thought, we can make it happen. Like when the audience clapping revives tinkerbell in Peter Pan.
im very happy! i wanted claypool to be added more than any other band. i lost hope in that after i thought only jazz tent acts would be announced and BAM!
claypool takes the sting off the abb cancelling..
so yes, i am considering this big in my opinion based on my own musical preferances.
this makes me want to cry. what a f ucking letdown. Somehow this makes me LESS excited for Bonnaroo. I don't know a single person who listens to Widespread Panic. Guess I'll be leaving early. I bet a shitshow of people will be leaving early driving in god knows what kind of condition. Why the hell is there a constant repeat of the most boring headliner possible?? Way to stay competitive. Does Widespread Panic just play for the leftover drugs backstage or what?? Where the fuck is Eric Clapton????????????? Warren Haynes?? Derek Trucks was supposed to play 2 shows, are we just plain s hit out of luck on that with the thought of Widespread Shitfest to keep us excited?
I would not call this a BIG (with all caps) announcement. Decent adds but nothing unexpected; more like bands everyone thought should have been there for the initially.

karma. These are my thoughts exactly. This is a big announcement! It might not be a great announcement, it might not strike everyone's fancy, and apparently it's gonna piss some people off.
but, logistically speaking... we have a band who has headlined bonnaroo, a man who opened Langerado just a few months ago, and solid additions behind them. It's a big add for Bonnaroo. It just isn't Led Zeppelin or Eric Clapton.
Not gonna lie...I had made my peace w/ the initial line-up and was REALLY starting to get excited about 'Roo this year. But now all this ridiculous anticipation, only to be let down again? It's pretty much killed that momentum for now...blah.
