My gf and I have been back & forth on going this year. Our wallets and her schedule really only allow for one vacation this year, so we'll have to choose between the two. I've wanted to go to Burning Man for a long time but, it looks like Roo for us this year. I know, this didn't help you at all. Sorry.

i really really really want to go as soon as i can get the funds. i ehar its life-changing. i think if every person in the world went to burning man than the world would be much mroe peaceful
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

I don't think I could survive Burning Man, but props to anyone who can. That's truly a feat, in my opinion.
Haha my thoughts exactly. My friends think I am crazy going to Bonnaroo, but really to me that is normal compared to Burning Man A little too hard core for me I think.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

i have an older brother who just turned 36 and moved to Bangkok in October. 2 summers ago he did burning man and couldn't even put it into words. I saw plenty of photo's, but I doubt they did it much justice. He said that he went at the perfect time and couldn't see himself going at any other time earlier in his life. He pretty much just explained how it's something you almost need to prepare yourself for, and prepare to be changed, moved, and touched. He also mentioned having a different costume every night
and as a side note....he said one of the nights he was hanging around a little bonfire with some friends and couldn't understand where all the moaning was coming from until he walked around a few tents and came upon the "orgy tent". I too plan on eventually attending Burning Man, but I just don't think I'm ready for it. Plus, how could I leave all my rooers? I hope this helps

I went in 2004 “the floating world” this is truly a life changing experience; the community that grows from the desert is amazing. Looking back I wish I had driven so I could have set up a bigger camp and had more to contribute to the community, as it was I spent most of the week in a state of awww. I had not done much research before going, so wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, if you are serious about going I would highly suggest looking in your area for local burners and see about attending a satellite festival, its a weekend glimpse into life in black rock city. I really can’t put the experience in to words, but if anybody has any specific questions I’ll try to answer them as best I can.
i want to go. but i have heard horror stories of dust storms and that the dust causes sever skin and eye irritation. but no pain no gain i suppose. i hate shoes and i have heard they are neccesary or else the dust will tear up your feet. anyone know if this is the way it is or have i just talked to people with sensitive skin? also i hear its impossible to stake a tent with stakes so alot of people use rebar and many people fall/step on rebar and get severe puncture wounds. i fear it just might be a little more hardcore then id want. i like grassy fields full of music. but the community sounds like its out of this world. im torn. maybe someone whos been can set my mind at ease. im sure i will make it at some point. i cant imagine living my life without experincing it at least once.

Things are looking more and more like I am going this year. I have Burning Man veteran friends in SF who will be hosting us in their camp (about 50 people) so I can't pass this up.

I saw a film on Burning Man called, Burning Man: Beyond Black Rock. I'm going to go with my friends someday. I've talked to a buddy of mine who went one year. He drove cross country to Arizona for the festival. He seemed to have loved it and his photos looked pretty cool. But the explanation proves you need to see it for yourself.
I'd really like to hear some more first hand accounts too. I've wanted to go for a while and was planning on going this year until I read more about it. It seems like the idea of an impact free gathering, in the dada-sense, has kind of gone out the window. Is it really still like that? Or is it just becoming an Ibiza in the middle of nowhere?

Coming from FL makes the logistics so hard. We did not go in '07 for $ reasons and we are 50/50 on this year for time reasons. It is now our top priority for the next festival we travel to. With no roo for us this year we may be able to make it happen. Luckily we have many people in SF who will host us in their camp so the logistics are manageable.
From all the people I know who have gone I can tell I will enjoy Burning Man more than roo. When you get down to it, roo is still just all of us consuming something. It just happens to primarily be live music we are consuming but it is still a passive activity (meaning we are entertained by others).
yeah this isn't the year for me either. ideally, i think i'd like to go PB's route whenever i do make it out there and try and find an existing camp to jump in with.
judging from all the videos i've seen, burning man is -the- place to go for fire poi, so i definitely have my art all set.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
Thats what I'd have to do also, join up with an existing camp. I'm interested in learning a lot more about it... how the trading works.. good things to bring... etc. It is def a completely different animal.....
