The major headliner for year three of the retooled Lollapalooza concert will be none other than the band that became the breakout superstar of the old Lollapalooza back in 1992: Seattle's godfathers of grunge, Pearl Jam.
The three-day concert will take place in Grant Park from Aug. 3-5, and Lollapalooza promoters don't plan on announcing the 130-band lineup or putting tickets on sale for several weeks, until late March or early April. They declined to comment on any of the acts Wednesday.
Nevertheless, three concert industry sources confirmed that fans may expect Evanston native Eddie Vedder and his band to perform on Chicago's lakefront as part of a U.S. tour that will follow a European jaunt that has already been announced in June, and which includes several major music festivals.
Pearl Jam's last self-titled album was released in May 2006. Its most recent recording is a cover of "Love Reign O'er Me" by Vedder's heroes the Who, which will appear on the soundtrack of "Reign Over Me," the forthcoming film directed by Mike Binder and starring Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle.
It's that damned child, I'm tellin ya... Has anyone been to one of the newer Lalapaloozas? I saw something on MTV last night, I think it was that I'm With Rolling Stone show. Looks interesting, in the middle of the city! how is it similar or different to Bonnaroo as far as camping, setting, activities, etc.?

Fest ends around 10:30 or 11 each night...Sunday I think by 10. City Ordinance. I don't think they will ever do camping for the fact of there would be no way to patrol it during the fest for bums and thieves. It is in the middle of a major city.
I've been to the last two Chicago Lollas and it's really been kind of a draining event for me. There's no camping and I've stayed in the 'burbs and commuted in but the train schedule hasn't been really cooperative. It's kinda fun in the city with the whole skyline surrounding the park but the sets are short (maxing out at around 90 minutes) and they do end early. They run two large stages at a time and when those stages end there are stages opposite them that start up. (There are several smaller stages as well.) Also, it's pretty hard to see if you're not standing and there's not a ton of shade -- definitely a downer in August. They did make some improvements last year (like doubling the size of the festival and spreading out the stages to limit the bleeding of sound). I'm pretty sure that I won't be making the trip this year. That's what I said last year though...
I went with my friend and brother last year. We stayed at my friend's uncle's house out in Beverly so it was a pretty decent commute. About an hour to get to and fro via Metra.
It was a completely different experience from Bonnaroo. It wasn't as good of an experience, but it was still a lot of fun. There were a ton of great sets, and I can only see it improving this year. Pearl Jam isn't very enticing to me, but neither was RHCP last year. Didn't bother me, I was just able lay in the grass and watch the jumbotron. Plan on doing the same this year for Pearl Jam.
Definitely planning on doing the Lolla experience again though. With only an hour drive, how could I not?
Daft Punk announced their tour today, and it's the same as the leaked tour schedule, expect the date 08-03 Lollapalooza is missing. I think it's a pretty good chance they'll play.
That said, if they do, I'm buying my ticket the second they go on sale.
Yeah, there's a gap in the schedule. Personally, I definitely think it's a good possibility but then, I don't trust the guys who promote Lolla. They promote ACL Fest in Austin, and they're pretty notorious for starting completely false rumors to hype ticket sales, or at least, doing their best to encourage them.

I got my early bird lolla ticket! can't wait to see the lineup on april 12th. last year's fest was fun. but could've had better headliners. i'm expecting more this year out of this fest.
$165 a ticket before lineup announcement, $180 (most likely) after, and thats WITHOUT charges. I don't care if Jesus reunites with all twelve apostles, I am NOT paying $165 to go to Lollapalooza. I'll wait for a Pearl Jam show, I've seen em twice, and if thats what they have with Daft Punk, they better buy some more bands at that price cause Bonnaroo is bringing way more to the table, and I paid $140 for a four day pass. $165 for a ticket for music from 12PM-10PM for three days, absolutely insane, I hope all the teenagers and rapid fans saved their money and to anyone who goes, I seriously hope you have a great time at that price. Honestly.
Apparently, there are no hidden fees, CSE are such nice people, look:
No Service Charges New for 2007: No Service Charges. No Add-ons. No Surprises. No Lie.
That's right. The price you see is the price you pay. Our service charge-free pricing means that no service fees will be added to the published ticket price.
We want to de-complicate the ticket buying process by making it clear and simple, with no surprises awaiting you when you check out.
Well, at $165-195, there better no be any hidden fees. Just to illustrate how insane this purchase is:
Lets see how much money you pay per hour of music
Lollapalooza:
12PM- 10PM 10 hours per day, 30 hours total
195/30 = $6.50 an hour
Bonnaroo:
(I won't even count Thursday, just to be nice)
12PM- 4 AM 16 hours (Friday and Saturday) so 32 hours
12PM - 12PM 12 hours on Sunday
215/ 44 = $4.86 an hour (includes camping too)
I wonder which festival is a better buy? Hmmmmmmmmmm? Well, to all attending either festival enjoy, I will be at Bonnaroo.
Lollapalooza is in the middle of the city, thus, a bit more expensive. There's no reason to get all butt hurt about Bonnaroo when nobody even challenged it.
I attended both last year and they were both fun for different reasons. I preferred Bonnaroo of course, but I'm glad I went to both.
That said, I snatched up 2 tickets this morning. I pray to god Daft Punk is actually playing (it seems likely), but if not, I'll live. The lineup looks pretty solid so far anyway:
Lupe Fiasco The New Amsterdams Jack's Mannequin The Roots Son Volt Pearl Jam Clap Your Hands Say Yeah Daft Punk Charlie Musselwhite Ghostland Observatory Peter, Bjorn & John David Vandervelde LCD Soundsystem Peter DiStefano !!! Annuals The Satin Peaches Satellite Party
Most of those are confirmed, but a few, like Daft Punk, are just strongly supported rumors.
But with the lineup so far.. i may get rid of them and go to virgin fest. Unless lolla gets SP & beastie.. ive seen pearl jam a buncha times already so...
I don't want to cause trouble but am I the only one that can't stand Pearl Jam? I went last year and had a great time (minus the short set lengths...Broken Social Scene at 45 minutes broke my heart), but so far the lineup is disappointing. Also, I wouldn't get your hopes too high about Daft Punk playing, they were a huge rumor last year too and that clearly didn't pan out.

I think it would be neat if Porno 4 Pyros would headline one of the other nights (or pre-headline if Perry Ferrell doesnt want to look like he's just putting himself over again).
Apparently Daft Punk is the Friday Headliner. I booked the Congress Plaza right at the entrance of the fest, but haven't bough tix yet. Sort of waiting the line-up out. I'm sure it'll be good. But I can't justify buying tickets without a lineup.

I bought my ticket too. I'm really antsy about it, because right now I'm not overwhelmed by the lineup. We'll see. I'm pulling for an appearance by the Arcade Fire or Modest Mouse to make the price of the ticket worthwhile. I like Daft Punk, but I'm not sure that Daft Punk, Peter Bjorn and John, and LCD Soundsystem justify 170 dollars.
