Maybe. I honestly don't think they will show up. Which is ok because (1) I work during the week and (2) there's tons of rain in the forecast this week. If they do show up, it's less than two hours away and the people in Newtown don't need any more bs - I would like to help out.
These people are idiots. You can't use logic to predict their behavior.

I had to grow up with these sick fucks picketing outside our high school, outside my graduation at K-State and at the Catholic church I attended as a youth(a "whorish abomination" according to them). They were brainwashed of any normal human thought process and emotion. They've been approached in a "loving" manner by others, in a violent manner by others, ignored.....nothing works. Their website sums it up best:
"0 - nanoseconds of sleep that WBC members lose over your opinions and feeeeellllliiiiiings."
Also, they have an active counter on their site: "146- people whom God has cast into hell since you loaded this page" Pretty sure that covers most of the active posters on here. Sorry guys. But I'll sure enjoy the good company!
It seems the best you can do LD, is form a barricade so that the families don't have to see these assclowns.
I do appreciate that Anonymous hacked them over this though.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

The WBC is best when ignored. Many people think they may make their money simply from picketing, getting others angry, and getting them to attack. Since the family is full of lawyers, they use these attacks and other violations to sue and keep propping up their charade. I really don't know what other way they would make money. Surely no one would hire them for actual cases.
Students/family at Texas A&M formed a human wall outside the cemetery where a funeral of a US soldier that had passed away in combat was being held. I'm pretty sure all the men started pissing in the general direction of the WBC picket line at some point.
The Hell's Angels and other biker gangs have gone to the funerals and parked their bikes next to the picket line, revving their engines any time the WBC started to work up some kind of chant.
I just hope they accidentally built the church on a patch of radioactive earth and are slowly all growing infertile.

The Facebook event page is insisting on non-violent and non-confrontational resistance.
And reminds also there's a state law in CT banning protests of funerals an hour before and an hour afterwards.
At this point I don't think WBC really goes that many places. They announce that they are going to and then don't show up. That's what they did here after the shootings
Hey everyone. Just as everyone is currently on the mental health funding bandwagon, my wife (who just finished her post-doc year and is a few months from being a licensed psychologist) is going to lose her job she was just hired for because Bobby Jindal is cutting all funding for the clinics that would be employing her. Even though the funding came from federal grants, Jindal wants zero deficit for Louisiana at the costs of health care and education. I'm not sure how that works. Anyway, I'm a full time grad student and will not get my next student loan money until the end of January. Also, my car needs about $400 in repairs. Bottom line, we are going to be desperately in need of cash for the next month or so.
In light of all of this, I am selling as many things as I am willing to part with, including my drum set, clothing, books, dvds, vintage comics, etc..
I recently won two free Bonnaroo tickets as a part of the Bonnaroo 365 Tour. I am heavily debating on selling my two tickets to help out with the next month. I will not ask a price that is unreasonable, possibly at a price around $500 for both tickets. This is not a huge discount, I understand, but after taxes and shipping and other fees, this would be a pretty good deal for someone who would buy the tickets on the day of sale. I already feel bad for soliciting on here, and if this is a problem, I will delete this post.

Of course he's slashing funding for health and education. Who the hell needs health or education?
For f*ck's sake, when will we get our priorities straight? There's already not NEARLY enough funding for the arts or education or mental health, and those three things always seem to be three of the first things sh*tty ass politicians will cut funding on when they need to cut back on spending. I'm gonna move to Sweden or something.
Sorry to hear you're having to sell stuff, jakicker. That's total BS man.

jackicker - that is horrible. I truly hope something turns the tide for you and your wife.
I think everything will be ok as long as we make it until the end of January. My wife is not taking any of this lightly today as this was her first day at work since the announcement. All the state employees are basically out of a job effective the end of the month and the other psychologists may be okay until the end of January. But, she was told that every patient she sees from this point forward will be the last time she sees them, so that is not a good sign.
Anyway, those two General Admission tickets are up for grabs. I will take $500 for both of them. I can't remember how much I've paid in the past for one ticket after taxes and fees, but I feel like two tickets would be around $600 normally. PM me if you are interested.

I'm seeing a LOT of reports of them floating around in the area of Newtown - nearby towns like Southbury, Naugatuck, Woodbury - trying to pull permits and get a hotel room or two.

My heart hurts will all this. All of it. So much to think about. I can't do anything lately without thinking about all of this. The problems in our country, people's hurts here on the board, this terrible tragedy. I feel selfish acting like this, but my mind and heart just won't stop hurting.
alcohol kills mames and disrupts millions more lives than any gun you can name , yet theres not the amount of coverage that the retarded get when they decide to missuse such a powerful tool .

Here are the facts from 2011: "In 2011 - the latest year for which detailed statistics are available - there were 12,664 murders in the US. Of those, 8,583 were caused by firearms." (Source: The Guardian) vs. "This dangerous behavior is responsible for more than 79,000 deaths annually and a wide range of health and social problems." (Source: CDC)
Both are serious issues -- with serious lobbies. But the numbers do not lie -- let alone if we were to compare with other modern countries. (The real statistics to compare to would be alcohol mortality due to drunk driving & alcohol poisoning . Having a hard time getting 2000- ; 1998 has 1,393 deaths from alcohol poisoning + 14,899 total deaths from fatal accidents. NIAAA / National DUI stats)
But, I just don't believe a vice of choice can be compared with a tool made to give the user undue power over life and death.

Bring back public exicutions. Force us to watch them like they do by rerunning theese tragic events . The reason I say this is because we show greater concern for public stoneings in the Middle East than we do for any tragic event U S because 15 minuets is just that .
I could take a lot of time to wax poetic on everything that has brought me to this point, I'll save you all from that and just sum it up as succinctly as possible: Quack just about everything.
This should go in the Yay thread but it just fits with convo above:
CT is Westboro free - or assumed so. Nothing happened today, which happened to be the wake for the principal of the Sandy Hook school. Volunteers all over the western half of Connecticut were practically stalking the group and nobody found anything. In several areas were volunteers forming human walls in case trouble arrived. Of all the rumors about them floating around between Newtown, Southbury, Southington, Naugatuck, and other area towns - nothing has been verified. There is no conclusive evidence, just hearsay and rumors, they were/are even in the state this week. Though people are still on guard for vans from Kansas driving around.
