So we are nearing the end of another decade. My question is who is your musician of the decade? Mine is a tie between Jack White (2 amazing albums with the Raconteurs, the last two White Stripes cds have been stellar--plus at least another album worth of good songs from the other W.S. cds) and Billy Nershi (2 great side project discs, 3 SCI albums, and countless terrific SCI shows). Who's your musician of the decade???
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

If I was a journalist in Rolling Stone, Relix, Paste or any music magazine like that, I would write an article about these two things:
musician of the decade - Jack White or Ryan Adams
gayist musician of the decade - Kenny Chesney (I put this in here because I assume no one on Inforoo gives a crap about him, and I'm drunk right now, so I find it pretty funny)

I though Elephant was miles beyond Get Behind Me Satan and Icky Thump.
"Love need not be a command nor faith a dictum. I am my own god. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us." — Charles Bukowski
Seriously, though, I've got to say Radiohead... no other band/artist has been as consistently critically and commercially successful in the past decade.

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. Dude has made a shitload of music since 2000. At the Drive-in, The Mars Volta, and his various solo projects.
At the Drive-in-Relationship of Command The Mars Volta-Deloused in the Comatorium The Mars Volta-Frances the Mute (my opinion)
^^^^ could all easily make top 10 albums of the decade.
The guy writes every part of the Mars Volta's music, minus the lyrics, and was the driving force behind ATDi too.
Jack White is f@ck!ng awesome, but is fairly formulaic. I love The White Stripes and like The Raconteurs, but those bands don't have the variety in sound that At the Drive-in and Volta produce.

Trent Reznor,
or Thom Yorke
I'm also including The Fragile, which was released in September of 1999, and taking into account that the decade isn't over yet, but these two (Yorke representing Radiohead) have been doing more to bring about the end of the major-label music industry than any other artists.

Huge fan of the man. Jack White has gone from being a punk kid from detroit who plays blues to an accomplished musician (moving onto playing piano and other instruments). He's expanding and I really like it.
Consolers of the Lonely is amazing and I can't wait for more Jack White

volta are about as formulaic as prog can get...
How are they formulaic? They have their own sound for sure, but come on. If anything I'd barely say there is a formula at all. One of the most original bands I've heard in years. So much so, that I pretty much hated their music the first time I heard it. There is just so much going on, it takes awhile to digest.
And also, ATDi was hugely influential. They spawned alot of shitty bands as well as good ones. But so did a little band called Led Zeppelin.
Once again, I LOVE Jack White, and he puts out more consistantly good records than most anyone, but he's really not treading any new ground. Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Thom Yorke and others are.
