I find TMV to be more along the lines of Tool, than Led Zeppelin.
TMV does have an amazing cast. I watched whatever they have on insight on demand. (Gyros or something) and The drummer is absolutly sick, along with the guitarist. Could careless about the singer (just my opinion) and the keyboardist reminds me of Bernie Worrell on some Deemsters ...very crazy sound. makes me feel a little primal. And I also like the sax in there. adds a little jazzfusion...or something.
I would definitly like to check out a show. (Two months ago, I was saying that I just didnt get them)
So they do grow on you. thats fo sho

As I said earlier, my personal pick would probably be Joanna Newsom, but if I think over all of music, I'd have to go with Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo of the Neptunes.
I'd argue those two guys have done more to change popular music this decade than any other musicians because of their production work. Their sound is constantly changing, bringing all kinds of genres together (as witnessed in any of their N*E*R*D releases). Their list of hit records and collaborations can be found here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Neptunes_discography
I would say those are the musicians of the decade, for better or worse...

A world without "Light Your Ass on Fire", "Milkshake" or "Let's Get Blown" is a world I don't want to live in

The Chilli Peppers are probably up there, Stadium Arcadium was an absolutely amazing album(s) and didnt have one song that I didnt like on either album.

cept that (IMO) anthony sounds like shit when he sings live

I'd like to nominate phil lesh. Just for staying with us a few more years
Tom Petty. Warren Haynes Thom Yorke kanye's success has to be mentioned. modest mouse Tool LES CLAYPOOL STS9/Electronic,jam,rock,trance movement
*I cant comment on Trent or NIN really..I'm just now finding my groove with them. I like to relisten to bands that I used to not like. Just to give them the fair share of chances they deserve.
I'm finding I'm liking more bands, that I used to not be into so much. And the reverse for some of the bands I used to be really into (Slayer, Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, SP..etc etc) Dont get me wrong, I still like them. But I just dont rock them out like I used to. Maybe my taste is becoming broader? Or, I'm just wising up.

Your musical taste never stops evolving, unless you want it to. I am 27, and like most of you here, am on a constant quest to find new and exciting music. I can't even fathom how large my music collection will be in 30 years.
The Chilli Peppers are probably up there, Stadium Arcadium was an absolutely amazing album(s) and didnt have one song that I didnt like on either album.

and that they've been making the same album over and over since 1999. Still a good live band, though.
Yeah you can't go wrong with Jack White here, Me I'm partial to Spencer Krug and his inumerable projects. Jeff Tweedy, and Ryan Adams also rank up there too

Jim James / Jack White...... one of these two, just because the way they can make my soul scream out in pleasure and drop to it's knees in a fit of agony. With that being said, only once more time has passed and we have gained some perspective will we be able to accurately decipher who was the best musician of the decade. Bands like Velvet Underground, The Pixies, and Pavement weren't exactly popular in their time but think of the innumerable amounts of bands that have tried to follow in their footsteps and emulate their sound since.
made me want to like poke my brain with an icepick.
yes, it sounded that wild
Do you remember if what you saw was called "Live at the Electric Ballroom?" I know that one is shown on demand sometimes, and it's one of the few live TMV recordings I've heard where you can actually hear Ikey.
He is wicked, though... I wish they'd give him a more prominent role.
probably more influential in the 90s than in this decade, but I've always thought Dave Grohl will probably go down as one of the best all-around musicians of our generation, the man could be his own band

Jack White? I think he's just riding Meg's coat-tails. She's the true genius of the two, with her sophisticated polyrhythms and spot on timing. Musician of the Millenium - Meg White.

how is jack white NOT treading new ground? really just a preposterous claim. 2 piece band with a mediocre-at-best second wheel and a guy that carries the entire sound on guitar and vocals. his continuous expansion through old school country/blue grass, then his latest foray into latino mariachi trumpets both are unlike anything any other artist is doing. you may like someone else more, and may not find jack white to be "artist of the decade" or whatever, but to say he is formulaic is pretty funny, only because it is so demonstrably false. jack white is easily one of the most creative (non-formulaic) people in music in the last THREE decades, but best? can't really say on that one. formulaic? nonsense.
This upsets me that not everyone here isn't saying "duh" to this. OF COURSE Jack White is the musician of the decade. He is the equivalent to Bob Dylan in the 2000's. His song writing and bands have been highly innovative and spread a wide range of musical backgrounds. He's going to be one of the first names that will pop into people's minds when they are talking about the 2000s years from now. Plus have you seen him live? There is absolutely no bigger rock star in the industry right now. I'm truly lucky I've already seen him twice and will be seeing him again at 'Roo this year. Jim James is certainly next up but until another few albums, he cannot touch Jack White.
BTW, I think the torch of "Rock God" has gone like this since the late 80's...Michael Stipe, Kurt Cobain, Eddie Vedder, Thom Yorke, Jack White, Jim James
