most the negativity i see is comin from ppl that just joined.........i know i joined in jan....but still...negativity ruins the vibe......i look at it like this.....the majority..id say 99% of the basic hard rock metallica fan is gonna see that look at the bonnaroo lineup and be like who the fuck are the rest of these bands??...fuck paying 200 for that........and then the roo fans who want to see metallica will see them....and maybe superfly will learn...but im definitely there

It looks like if I go this year it may be by myself as a lot of people I know are really underwhelmed by this line-up right now and I kinda am too. You gotta figure they'll round it out with some electronica acts and some jam acts right ?????? I wish I knew what the latenights were going to be, it'd make my decision to go easier. It appears I may be watching this year from the Blue Room and hitting up All Good.................
"We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, movie gods, and rock stars. But we wont, and we're slowly learning that fact & we're very, very pissed off......."
Im 25 and broke. I miss the good festivals. Bonnaroo ruined them by stealing all the bands so thats all there is now unless I wanna go see moe or the disco biscuits. I used to go to the Vibes and phish festivals as well as many others before bonnaroo robbed them of all the good bands. Now bonnaroo sucks. What is there to do this summer please tell me??? Camp creek??

This guy is so right.
Metallica Fan: I'm not going to this stinking hippie fest, I'll just see them when they come to yada yada.
Basic Bonnaroo Fan: Metallica blows! Let's stay at camp and smoke this opium.
Some dudes at Bonnaroo cause they had vacation hours and went to Bonnaroo cause someone told them it was cool, who likes Metallica: Whatever, where's the beer stand?
No big deal. It'll at least be funny to see a low turn out when Metallica plays.

close minded? yeah, there are some really good acts there...but the trademark of this year is pearl jam, metallica, and then jack johnson? great...we have to watch the shmucks from metallica and an underqualified JJ take the stage at primetime, pushing other, much better bands into worse time slots....im not even sure that i want to go, which is saying alot, because before today i was pretty sure i was going to attend every bonnaroo until i died...so instead, a piece of me died when i read metallica at the top of the list after anxiously awaiting the lineup for months...

just to make clear... it seems a lot of people on these boards have only been to the last two roos. the first three were COMPLETELY different than the last three. The vibe definitely began to change in 2006. there was so much magic in this festival in the initial beginnings and it seems it has gone by the wayside in order to attract the masses, not the kind of people that were there in the beginning. I agree that Bonnaroo is one of the best festivals in this world but there comes a time when it needs to examine itself as one for the people, not one for its own intentions. imagine the whole centeroo this year... the environentalists preaching to a bunch of metalheads (used loosely) who could care less.
For all of the pessimists out there, I have another view for you to see. Bonnaroo is what you make it. It will be as good a time as you let your attitude to allow. It is up to you whether or not you enjoy Bonnaroo. Sure the lineup style and genre balance is shifting but are there still not enough acts to satisfy the veterans and "hippie-festers" My advice is go no matter. You will be dissapointed to miss any of the guarunteed to be legendary shows and remember you can always avoid 20,000 bad seeds with different intentions because 80,000 neighbors will give you more to choose from

just had to vent for a second, sorry guys.
Guess so I have not been since 04 just joined this thread cause I can Finlay get some time to go. Was anxious about the line up for months as well. Give me all the negative karma you want! This sucks man it sucks. Go enjoy Phil for $210 in the smoldering heat at 8am on Sunday. I am venting as well. SO deal with it some of you never experienced the magic of a real festival a lot of you have. That excitement and nice people every where $75 three day passes. This is just crap.
Im optimistic...there will be a better roo next year. I love Pearl Jam. The raconteurs, Broken social scene, robert randolph, etc. Theres just not enough to make me take 5 days off of work. I hope this isn't the end of bonnaroo. Everything metallica touches turns to shit though. Also I really hope everyone else enjoys their weekend. Thank God Tom Petty is touring, he saved my summer
well, I diddn't graduate high school till 2005, my mom wouldn't let me go to a 3 day music festival while I was still in high school and underage, sorry for being young, but I really like indie rock, since '06 and now, there's alot of good indie rock stuff at Bonnaroo.
Look i dont care id i get smited or whatever but this looks like to be a good old fashioned awesome time, i don't agree w metallica but have seen them before and wow do they put on a show. the Allman Bros..... my fav. band of all time im super pumped. Plus umphreys hopefully late night. I'm going to be in heaven and i know they will add alot of bands because this line up isn't half as big as last years. As for kanye i can't stad the man but he makes just awesome music (not to mention Zack gall was in his video for "can't tell me Nothin" which is one of my fav videos ever)
P.S i have had alot of Kool-aids so if this doesn't make scense i apologize in advance

i can only imagine how many pissed off emails they are taking...i certainly was angry enough to write one...basically, i think everyone who is upset should write an email and complain...
and honestly, if this is the best the can come with, who headlines next year? the killers, motley crue, and a led zeppelin cover band?

while i may have only recently joined inforoo, i have attended all but the first roo. i want everyone to look at the lineups from back then. SUPER jammy. not what im advocating, but the fact is, that is what bonnaroo was. over the years i have greatly enjoyed watching the fest evolve and i haven't missed one. in fact, for 2003-2007 i never had a single thought of missing, and was never anything but elated for the lineup. However, starting with 2006, there was an obvious shift. mtv bands started popping up all over the place and the fest began its march to the mainstream. but even though people like death cab were there, it was freaking radiohead! so they got a pass for the new commercial vibe cuz they still kept it close enough to the core roo vibe with tons of roo regulars. then in 07, the police reunion was the most blatant "MONEY MONEY MONEY" act yet, coupled with fewer core jam acts than usual. still though, a wonderful year. but this year has gone way too far. metallica and kanye are unforgivable. i preface all of this assuming ashley capps is telling the truth when he says there are no ground shaking artists yet to be announced. pardon me for not wanting to walk through centeroo and hear the sounds of mastadon thrashing to tracks off of "mountain of blood". seriously, was slayer booked? people who think this is the best lineup yet need to look at the lineups from 2002-2003-2004. if you really still think that, then you MUST realize what people like me, who went for the original roo vibe, must be feeling when we look at this year's list.
someone else said it... i half heartedly checked out widespread last year and skipped tool and the police and still had a fantastic time. it is what you make of it.
for me, PJ and MMJ make the decision to go easy...
beyond that, Plant and Krauss, Sigur Ros, Two Gallants, etc etc are alll bonuses...
I will say... where are The Black Keys? The Whigs? Ryan Adams? Jason Isbell?
but, by my count, we still have 25ish spots available if they plan to surpass 100 acts... in fact, i count 76 total right now... so 24.
lets hope the smaller band add some depth to this thing!!! good start other than kanye and metallica.

im not being negative, just honest
well said, sir. it is undoubtedly different, but each bonnaroo has included at least 15 bands off hand that I would want to see. i have come to accept that there will be crap there. it;s inevitable. but there's undoubtedly still quality in this lineup. i also enjoy hearing the under the radar acts and coming away from the fest with new music to check out. and i doubt this year will be any different.
Am I really going to be the first person to post who actually respects some of Kanye's work? Regardless, I've been hoping to hear Iron & Wine announced since I first decided I should go to Bonnaroo.
Seeing as so far I'm pretty excited about these bands
* Death Cab for Cutie * Sigur Ros * Ben Folds * Iron & Wine * Gogol Bordello * Broken Social Scene * Rilo Kiley * !!! * Ladytron * The Fiery Furnaces * Ghostland Observatory * Minus the Bear * Battles * Two Gallants * Steel Train
I think I should be okay. And trying to choose between two acts playing at the same time should be completely reasonable.
you guys are the fratboys that are changing the scene. that BO comment before was the reason. that is what the roo was about, not giving a f- - -. the fact that the less BO the better means that the more puerto rican showers that are around, the worse the roo gets.

I've been the past 5 years and am not a "frat boy". Widespread Panic is my favorite band and I don't really like hard rock at all. I'm just making the choice to not let negative vibes ruin my excitement for Bonnaroo '08.
I'm sorry if I offended you as this was not my intent. I hope to see you in Manchester this year and would love to cook you some pancakes for breakfast Saturday morning.
