I know we had Stevie Nicks and the late night compilations, but did anyone think Superfly made a mistake by skipping the 3.5-4 hour marathon headliner with special guests appearing in every show?
I at least expected Phil and Friends to bring someone else on stage. Last year Widespread brought out Bob Wier, Herbie Hanc0ck, Robert Randoph, Luther and Cody D1ckenson, and Bruce Hampton--all on Sunday.
The music was awesome, I'm not complaining. It just seems like trends are changing. And Tom Petty starting after 9?? WTF
That's good to hear--I didn't make it to very many tent shows.
Yea, I saw G love sit in with RRFB at Langerado this year--good stuff. I just figured Buddy Guy or Dr. John would make an appearance on the main stage.
damn glove was everywhere. he came out at mmw also. i was really dissapointed in the lack of headliner guests. i thought tom petty would have a couple people up. trey or john popper maybe. and he didnt play long enough eiyther. i had hope for more from petty. i sitll enjoyed though
I loved the Codetalkers set, but when they're billed as "The Code Talkers feat. Col. Bruce Hampton and Special Guests" in the printed schedule, I was expecting, uh, special guests...
I was hoping to hear Lua by Bright Eyes, but when Gillian Welch and David Rawlings came out for it, that was a treat.
Zeebo said that Sonic Youth was joined by half of Pavement (Stephen Malkmus & the bass player from Pavement) which made his day.
Thanks for the input all. I'm glad to hear there were more guest appearances than what I saw. I spent a lot of time at the main stage and saw zero sit-ins.
I'm all for the evolution of bonnaroo and everything, but I don't want it to change this part.
Seriously, he played on the main stage at least 3 times last year. Plus, didn't bonnaroo even send out an email saying that "rumors of special guests" were already heard?

I don't remember seeing it, but word on the street is that Mike Skinner (The streets) guested with Ben Folds on Bitches ain't nuts.
Yeah, that isn't true. I think the confussion was that Ben Folds' drummer is English, and near the end there was a crowd sing-a-long that went, "bitches can't hang with the streets". However, Mike Skinner is a huge Ben Folds fan, and I believe they're close friends. I read in that Rolling Stone journal-esque story about Bonnaroo that Skinner would love collaborate with Ben Folds, so I dunno. Wow... after typing that I feel like I should be reporting celebrity gossip for People magazine...

The majority of the Super Furry nimals came out and played a bit with Bright Eyes.
The only person from Super Furry Animals that played with Bright Eyes was Gruff Rhys, because they were already out on tour with him. The other guests were Jim James of My Morning Jacket and Gillian Welch.
