Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
The fact of the matter is that you simply cannot generalize 80,000 people. everyone is coming for thier own reasons, it's been that way since Roo number 1.
My friend Bob, he's coming mainly for Radiohead, Matisyahu, Beck, Death Cab, Bright Eyes... Me, I'm coming mainly for Phil, MMW, Oysterhead, Dr. John, moe. , Bela, etc...
This is my best friend. in the world. Is it because we have the same musical tastes? not at all, obviously... it's because we are the same type of person.. we're fun loving, peace having, herb smoking guys that hgave always had a common ground in our personalities.
but by Dudewheresmyroo's assumptions, my buddy wouldn't have the first clue as to how to act at Roo.. according to dude, he's going to be bringing that "bad Bright Eyes, Death Cab college tour ettiquit" according to dude, my friend isn't the person that he is because he likes the music that he does.
it's just very sad to me that someone would make such broad generalizations about people they've never met. way to bring the Roo spirit.
i have not said one thing about your friend. i dont know him. but if he is into these bands then im sure he has been to a few of those bands shows. ask him if he gets the same vibe at those as he does at roo. ask him if he would like to replace roos crowd with a deathcab campus tour show. ask him if theres a negative factor at those shows as compared to roo. i am sure he will say that a percentage of the people who visit these concerts are pop music mtv retards who hopefully wont be within a hundered miles of roo. but you can go ahead and think that i was calling your friend a douche
im gonnna venture a guess that your buddy knows who phil lesh and oysterhead are. again those are not the people im talking about. i dont know why noone can bring up any legitimate gripes abotu things without fanboys making it iseem as im out to say roo sucks or them and their friends are bad people for liking certain bands. gimmme a break. this isnt middle school. not everything has to be me calling you poopy heads and you doing it back. there are going to be more people there who dont give a damn who phil lesh or oysterhead is. its going to be a vastly different crowd this year. thats what im commenting on. not your friend specifically. i assumed that would be obvious. so please dont bust out anymore "according to dude my buddy.." because its the furthest thing from the truth.
if i call george bush a prolife republican douchebag then im not talking about my republican friend who is pro choice. its such an easy concep[t to grasp. im not sure what somes people malfunction is

all I'm saying is that you are generalizing people you don't know. I was just using my friend as an example of one of the people you are generalizing.
I realize you aren't saying "Roo's going to sh*t!", but you have to understand that you arn't giving any of these people a chance.. you are condeming them to be musical morons before you are even in the presence of them.
if you are right, if Roo's vibe and general attitude this year is wholly and completely different than it has been in years past, then I will be the first person to admit you were right. I will be the first to eat my words, but I just cannot see this year being drastically different from years past..
and again, I see your point about bad vibes... but at a Bright Eyes show? I mean, come on... it's not like Bright Eyes is Limp Bizkit or something..
hopefully, like you said, the bad element of those groups decides Roo's not worth it and hasn't bought tickets, but you can't sit there and say that the jam scene is wholly different... there are drunken college idiots in this scene too, as well as shady ass people.. every scene's got them, and every Roo has had a nasty element to it as well, albeit a small one.
EDIT: and no, my friend didn't know who Oysterhead was until I explained it to him a few weeks ago. Yes, he knew who the members were, but has never heard a song by them and never even knew the band existed.

Dude, do you honestly think people are going to pay 200 bucks a ticket and come to Manchester, Tn just to see DCFC and not know anyone else. Thats pretty stupid. Is someone not a good person if they don't honkey donkeyg know who Phil Lesh is. Phil Lesh would probably call you a douch for being closed minded. The crowd may have a little different musical taste this year but theres no way its going to lead to bad vobes at Roo. You are the only person hating on people whether you want to hear it or not. Hell, Id say the DCFC fans are cooler than you and I dont even like DCFC. It's pointless to even reply to you since you probably are the most closed minded person on this board. DCFC is one freaking show of 80+. Your trying to make an ant hill into Mt. Everest with your ill informed comments. I bet after Roo you'll be saying I had a great time and the crowd was great and then realize you just try to blow things out of proportion. I respect every person at Roo because 99.9% came because they enjoy music.....not your music, not my music, just music. Ive gone to Metallica, NIN, System of a Down, and many other pretty hard shows, does that mean I'm bringing a bad vibe because I like hard rock. I guarantee I'm more musically eclectic, and give off way better vibes than you. You make it sound like DCFC shows are people punching each other and beating each other down. It's just stupid man. Go broaden your horizons like I have because of Roo.
well whatever man. fine im closed minded. thats again the furthest thing from the truth. but if you have that opinion of me then good for you. no skin off my nuts. ive listened to all of these bands. i dont just write them off. i dont like their music. and i have been to shows and i have not liked many of the fans. again thats not to say that i dont see some cool people burning one down in their crocs or roo shirts. ive been to alot of guster shows and seeing them at roo was a far different experience then seeing them on one of their college town tours. but like you said noone was going to pay for roo just to see gusyter or death cab. but this year for the first time there is a whole group of bands that draw fromt that crowd. not saying all are bad. but the bad ones have more of a reason to shell out the bucks for 8 - 10 bands they know over the normal 1 or 2 bands they have heard of at roo

Bonnaroo 2004: Dave Matthews Wilco Yo La Tengo Damien Rice Los Lonely Brothers Grandaddy Kings of Leon Neko Case The Black Keys Danger Mouse
Bonnaroo 2005 Dave Matthews Modest Mouse The Mars Volta Jurassic 5 Joss Stone My Morning Jacket Kings of Leon De La Soul Iron and Wine Rilo Kiley Secret Machines Saul Williams Mouse on Mars M. Ward Matisyahu
Now, if dudewheresmyroo?'s logic prevails, it would mean that the last two years have had a plethora of bands that he doesn't consider 'belonging' there. The types of bands that attract frat boys, emo kids, hipsters, all dancing around in an idiotic stupor that will bring about a Roovian apocalypse.
Now. You guys tell me. How was 2004? Was 2005 pretty terrible? Will 2006 really bring about a rise in change?
Didn't think so.
But then again, why the hell am I bothering to post this? I'm done. Just wanted to get it off my chest.
well way to go and put words i n my mouth. you guys a crazy. if this was a conversation in real life it would have been a short discussion and we would have probably ended up agreeing with each ohter. its funny to me what yall think of me. the first thing i saw last year was joss stone first 3 songs. and i then went and caught j5 which was my favorite show of the year. i have owned every album for years and cant wait for the new one. i was disapointed they arent back this year. rilo kiley was awesome. i didnt catch the whole show but what i saw was great. dave matthews was 2 of the greatest shows i have ever seen. in 04 i walked away not that impressed but i listen to the show on cd non stop and love it. 05 was one fo the greatest shows i have ever seen. i have been into dave for a long time. im always defending him to haters. i even saw modest mouse. i wasnt very impressed. pretty much the way it is on the radio. as for your 04 list i loved the wilco show. you forgot guster. i saw kings of leon last year and wasnt very impressed. i love the music i just cant take his voice. my firends say it will grow on me but it just dosent. so please quit taking what i say and applying it to such a vast amount of things. just wanted to clear up some things so that you guys arent speaking for me saying things i have not or never will say

I've known plenty of people who have gone to roo for reasons other than what you consider jam bands. Last year in particular I was surprised to meet an entire group of people that were ONLY there for the late night DJ/rock scene and a very, very small group of daytime bands. I met another solely there for Herbie and Kermit...
As I said in another thread: you go to Roo for the vibe-- the vibe brings out a quality in the bands, not the other way around. I am excited to see Radiohead at Roo because it's Radiohead: at ROO! I could go see Phil Lesh or Radiohead on my own time away from this- but it's the conglomeration that I appreciate. And I trust that Roo's vibe helps to further transform many sketchy fans (like the drunk college jam kids, the cranky deadheads) back into better people from whence they came. I can't wait to be with such eclectic people. And if it starts to turn off those who would rather see Roo's audience stay exclusive - than mission accomplished.
I can't wait to see the shoegazer in a hoodie dancing, stoned off his/her ass_, with a half-naked hippie. That will be fantastic. And they they'll exchange fluids and little tie-dye babies with mascara will appear at next years.

See, that's what I'm saying, man. You liked a lot of those bands. However, they attract the same fans that Death Cab and Bright Eyes do. Rilo Kiley were on the same label as Bright Eyes for a while and I've even heard them hailed as Bright Eyes with a female vocalist. Dave Matthews usually attracts NOTHING but fratboys at his shows. Wilco are becoming indie legends, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is hailed as one of the best albums this millenium thus far. These bands attract emo kids. These bands attract indie hipsters. These bands attract fratboys. Yet, was Roo any different in 2004 or 2005?
i hear ya man. like i sadi im not the closed minded jam idiot you make me out to be. and i have been to enough of these shows to not just be talking out my ass. i know there are cool as people who are into these bands. even the ones i dont care for. im not trying to hate on badns or fans. its a group of people who arent into the music and are just idiotic people. bonnaroo certainly has a more mainstream lineup this year and is definetly getting more mainstream exposure this year then in any years past. there is more of a likely hood that these "bad fans" will even know about roo knowadays and there is certainly more of a draw in the lineup for them.... meaning they recognize more then 3 of the names on the list. thats what i am saying and thats what i am hoping dosent change the vibe at all. i like rooskews last post and i agree that the mix of people is part of what makes roo great. its just my opinion that they re pushing the line of attracting a negative crowd that could change the vibe/experience. hopefully i am mistaken. i know i will have a good time no matter what.

Man, I think we can both at least agree that we're going to have a damn good time no matter what. Just give me a favor and drop by Bright Eyes show for a few songs. I guarantee you won't be disappointed, man.
And if this years lineup DOES indeed attract a negative crowd? Don't worry. We'll sic the wookies on them.
oh and by the way just to even things out. my least favorite people at roo are the hardcore hippy addicts that go around begging for foil and money and then give ya a hard time if dont give them a beer or a nug or something. i offer people things at roo all the time. i am offered things all the time at roo. but i dont give anything to someone who walks into our camp and starts asking for a bunch of shit and is an ass when ya dont give away your supplies. and after that happens is when i feel i have to lock up camp when i leave instead of leaving my coolers and stuff out
ivew gotta see gordo rambledove but i might be able to swing the end of bright eyes. i was planning on seeing devendra banhart at the sonic stage. i will just have to see what happens. i never follow my planned schedule at roo
dudewhersmyinforoo:well i for one am hoping a lot of people jet after radiohead. they might have to stay for matisyahu though. it is saddening to me that so many people are so exciteed about bright eyes, deathcab, matisyahu, and radiohead. and then they ask "who is phil lesh"(something i never thought id hear form a rooer) "i dont know who oysterhead is but im not missing deatchcab!" and "the late nights are all disappointing. mmj is ok but the rest of the latenight is not interesting to me" " it just makes me sad. at least this new mainstream lineup hasnt brought in a new type of fan to roo.
and comparing buckethead to bright eyes is like comparing michael jordans career to me beating my son in horse. antoher example of an unexpected and saddening quote about the state of the roo scene.
imo. no offense to anyone. your all welcome. its just a bit of a system shock for a roo veteran to be hearing such unholy things from the roo newbies being brought in by the new lineup. i hope they quickly discover the etiquitte(sp?) of the festival communtiy and adjust to it well. it has worked so well for so long. i hope half of the people are not bringin their bright eyes deathcab college tour ettiquite(sp?) with them to roo.
here... now I'm not putting words in your mouth, I'm using your own to show you that you have tunnel vision and just assume that people who like these bands are idiots
love the "holier than thou" attitude on the last one there, btw, real friendly.
well i offered up 3 quotes that i thought would distinguish that i wasnt talking about all of the fans of these groups. just the ones who only have the naroow mainstream view of the music world. and i dont know anyone who likes beggars. im not sure whats holier than thou about that. i have no problem with addicts. or truly even beggars. if it was the corner fot own and they have a will work for food sign i often do throw them a couple of bucks. but if your at roo with a wristband and your calling me an asshole because i wont give you a beer some foil a lighter a sandwich and some bud then i think your a jackass and i wish you werent there. whats holier than thou about that.
I'm talking about you calling things like people asking things like who phil lesh is, or that they're excited to see Death Cab over Oysterhead "unholy".. I have no clue what you're on about..
EDIT: nowhere in that staement I quoted did you say anything about beggars...
my bad. i mis understood what you were refering to.
i guess you can look at it that way. i dont feel that i am better then them in anyway. im just commenting on the fact that its bringing a new feel to roo for me. you dont expect to be talking roo and have people not know who phil lesh is. oysterhead is a little more excusable as long as you recognize the members. and for someone to not be excited abotu the late nights is definetly new from roo. come one the latenights a crazy. sh.it bonnaroos name is from dr john. im just commenting on how for me this year has a whole different feeling to it as far as the people i have been meeting/talking about roo with. if you dont see the large shift of the type of music lover that roo is bringin in this year then more power to you. i see it differently

*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
one of mine two.... planning on getting some choice shots of the band... I'll probably squeeze out of the front after the first 3 or 4 songs, though... I tend to get claustraphobic, but I really want those shots bad.
okay then. I see your point a bit more clearly now.. I still disagree, but at least we can agree to disagree, right?
definetly man. like i said if this was a conversation over some beers we wouldnt have had any problems. but i enjoyed the conversation. nothing better then killing some time talking roo. i cant wait to smoke/ drink with all of you nuts at roo. this is just killing time for me. all of this will be far from my mind at roo and i will be in happy ass party mode
right on man. i think im gonna miss seu jorge because im a big ben folds fan. i cant miss him at roo. and i havent seen him in over a year. which means that i will be arriving at ramble dove right as its starting. if we can manage to find each other im down. if not im going from that show over to get a spot for oysterhead if your down for that.
Yeah, what's your late night looking like? I'm probably going to bounce around from lyrics born/common/blackalicious to umphrey's/disco biscuits. After Wakarusa I might be slightly tired of the Disco Biscuits though, unless they're doing the Beatles tribute band thing.
