Yeah, she probably will cancel. She is playing Coachella over a month beforehand, so we will probably know by then if she can hack it and play to a crowd.
Ok, my biggest fear is looking more like a reality right now...Late night Oysterhead conflicting with late night Beck ???
That would suck. I'm still thinking this won't happen simply because they are both in the top six billed artists. Right? Please? I'm guessing one of them is playing a 6:00 pm slot (or maybe Petty isn't headlining?).
Just because Saturday is looking so heavy (both late night and the day) I'm leaning more and more towards guessing that Umphrey's/Biscuits will be Friday night.
Thanks for the heads up ElementGuy. I also added the Cat Power Friday Pollstar info (with a ?) and also kept the Sunday one (with a ?). I certainly don't think she's playing twice, but I thought the 18th being mentioned in her tour cancelation announcement seemed like a pretty legit date.
A lot of the bigger name bands will definitely be playing at the same time. They do this because it helps even the crowds out. If they put one or two big names up against a lot of smaller bands then the two bigger bands would have ridiculously huge crowds at them. I'm pretty sure the conflicts are on purpose to make sure people are distributed somewhat even. It sucks but thats pretty much how it has to work otherwise some shows you wouldn't even be able to get near.
I think another reason that big bands are often playing at the same time is that since they are big bands they end up getting later spots on the stages. So instead of all the big bands playing on the main stage they let some of the big bands "headline" a smaller stage or tent.
But what the Roo does well is stagger the set times on the stages a little bit so that even if there are conflicts they usually last only 30 minutes or so. Even still, I think that Saturday is so packed full that I am going to have some issues.
With Beck On Sat and Bonnie Raitt on Sunday, I would think Elvis Costello would get the Friday spot before the headliner. That would be a logical assumption.
Thanks LIGuy, added this. Their website was completely non-functional for about three weeks after the announcement date. Bad form.
There are only about 20 artists we don't have any info on yet. If that list gets a little smaller I'll probably add a list of them to the bottom of the schedule post.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
Ok..Last year they started around 9 up to one or so as far Thursday night goes. Bonnaroo has the actual archive page with all the bands(including the sonic stage and all the side bands on the smaller stages)
Big (and confusing) news on the schedule front that someone on the listserv caught:
From Tom Petty's site:
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Radiohead will headline the fifth annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival June 16th through 18th in Manchester, Tennessee. Tom and the heartbreakers will headline on Friday night and Radiohead will do so on Saturday night.
Obviously this conflicts with the info on the radiohead site. For now I'm putting Petty on Friday and Radiohead on Saturday, both with question marks, because the Petty site looks officialer. I'd prefer to have Radiohead and Oysterhead on different nights.
Radiohead,Oysterhead, and Beck in the same night? What are you doing to me Superfly?! I do have to say it makes sense if Petty plays Friday night instead of Sat since Sat will be at peak with attendence. Also, having Costello open for Petty, Beck for Radiohead and Raitt for Phil Lesh makes logical sense.
