I missed the start of it being out of town, but Deadspin started their top 25 previews. I love the idea that they just let the readers pick the top 25 rather than pick it themselves. Clemson and Arizona already have had their previews published.

I like the concept, but I don't really care for this writer, Nick Martin. Apparently he is a Junior at Duke, and a summer fellow for Deadspin.
Yea I really don't like this writer either. His style feels like some weird pastiche of the typical Deadspin style. All the snark and sarcasm I like is there but it just feels... weird. It feels like he's just recycling other writer's phrases (like the 'take a nap' example up there). And not that I know a whole heck of a lot about other team's besides my own but I've seen other complain that Martin has missed some pretty serious off-season developments.
I just saw a headline that said, "Three Dark Horse Playoff Contenders From The SEC West Not Named Alabama Or Auburn." So... everyone except Miss State and Texas A&M, huh?

Good God, this season can't start soon enough.
Actually, a lot of people are buying a big upswing in A&M this year due to the Chavis hire. They'll be better, but I don't see them making the playoff.
Everyone who played last year should be able to just go onto espn and rejoin the group from last year. 10 games, selected by espn, ranked with confidence points. last year Dave Maynar took an early lead and held it til the end, though rdk gave him a run for his money down the stretch. everyone finished relatively close, except for poor custeph, who suffered from a bit of pick'em amnesia as the season went on.
if you didn't play last year or can't figure out how to rejoin the league, just search for "Inforoo pick 'em" group on ESPN. the password is donkey, chosen to describe most of your picks as I run away with this shiz. (i think we need to up the trash talking element this year)
the more the merrier. I will give the winner some sort of arts and crafts project that my daughter brings home from pre-school that doesn't fit on my fridge, or equivalent.
if you can't figure this out, may god have mercy on your soul (but also message me in case I did something stupid and should check my hubris)
Apparently Im f'n stupid because I cant figure out how to rejoin. Will try again when Im home, but Im in

Honestly, I just took a wild guess on the two teams that were left out. I just wanted to rage against some clickbait.
And honestly, I think pretty much any team in the West could make a run at the playoffs. It's so damn stacked that if you can make it through with one loss or less then win in Atlanta you will go to the playoffs. I agree with you that A&M won't make the playoffs but they'll be dangerous, as much as I hate for that to be the case.

The thing is, they can't all be good. A couple of those teams are going to lose 5-6 games. Because someone has to.

A&M can lose to Auburn, Alabama, LSU and Ole Miss and still be 8-4. I don't see them losing to Arkansas or Miss St who are there other SEC West opponents. We'll know a lot more about them soon since they start the season against Arizona St. For the record, being a Tennessee fan, I am not sold on Chavis being the savior of A&M's defense that some people think he is.

I think Chavis is a great defensive coordinator and a good hire for A&M. That being said, I promise that A&M will be up by a touchdown or less late in a game this year and Chavis will have the corners playing ten yards off of the receivers and no pressure dialed up for the backfield. We even have a name for it...3rd and Chavis.
EDIT: It pains me to post it, but this is the classic example of what I'm talking about.

I knew I could count on you to know exactly what I was talking about.

Miss St and Arkansas are definitely good enough to beat A&M. I think LSU could struggle for the same reason you're talking about. Their defensive coordinator is now Kevin Steele.

I had really high hopes for Arkansas this year, but I am shakier on them now that one of their starting RBs is out. Given that they had more of a RB tandem going on, you don't know how well their other RB can handle the load if it's focused more completely on him.

I know, right? It's really too bad we won't get to see such a talented running back tandem at work. A damn shame, really...

AP Poll is out.
1. Ohio State (61 first-place votes) 2. TCU 3. Alabama 4. Baylor 5. Michigan State 6. Auburn 7. Oregon 8. USC 9. Georgia 10. Florida State 11. Notre Dame 12. Clemson 13. UCLA 14. LSU 15. Arizona State 16. Georgia Tech 17. Ole Miss 18. Arkansas 19. Oklahoma 20. Wisconsin 21. Stanford 22. Arizona 23. Boise State 24. Missouri 25. Tennessee
Top 4 is the same in both the AP and Coaches. There isn't any team with a bigger difference than two spots between the two polls. Mississippi State and Texas A&M are the first two out in both polls.
