We are that low after like 4 straight 6-6 regular seasons. Hopefully Coach Duzz will get us near the top, though it will be tough to replicate the Majors/Sherrill years.
We produce a lot of stars, though.
They were the team that really stuck out to me that isn't a team many (if anyone) would rank in the AP Top 25, but they still got recognized for having legit NFL talent on the roster.
David Hale from ESPN did some research that basically showed Paul Chryst was like the second worst p5 coach in a type of "coach value above replacement" metric. Basically he sucked as a game coach (I do appreciate that he made the program better and brought stability, but how much stability can one bring in 3 years?)
Hopefully, Duzz will bury the 'same ole Pitt' meme, but I bet self loathing Pitt fans won't let it be buried.

Interesting because Tennessee has almost the opposite phenomena. Some fans haven't quite got on board with Tennessee not being part a top 10 team even though it's been a while since that Tennessee has been ranked there (2006 if you were curious). With all the hype going into this season, some people's expectations are getting ridiculous, so if they don't beat Oklahoma by 35 points, these people are going to lose their damn minds and start talking about how the season is a waste and Jones is underachieving.

2006 was my second season as a PhD student at UT and was the year we lost 21-20 to national champion florida, right?
If memory serves it's also the year the Vols lost to Penn St in the bowl game, which pisses me off as a Pitt fan.
Vols haven't beaten the Gators since I enrolled in my PhD program. I will keep mentioning this here until we beat the Gators.
Maybe it's a sign that I need to write my damn dissertation. Don't see that happening though.
RE: Auburn. Duke Williams and Carl Lawson definitely have the most pro potential. Duke reminds me of Julio Jones because he's enormous and not afraid to run across the middle. Lawson will be a great player at the next level as long as he stays healthy.
Jeremy Johnson for sure has the size and the arm strength to do it but he's been a back up his whole career. He's basically Cam Newton's size but is a pocket passer instead of a running back who can throw. Apparently he's ridiculously fast too so it'll be a fun season to watch.
I just hope our D-line can take over this season. The thinking seems to be that Auburn's secondary is our weak point. Hopefully that will be a moot point and we'll just sack everyone all the time.
I think our secondary is our weak point but I think adding Countess will be major. He was a 2-time All-Big Ten selection and last year was an honorable mention. If he plays up to full potential and Jonathan "Throw Towards Me in the Endzone and I'll Pick You Off" Jones stays in the zone this year, they could be the dynamic duo in the SEC.

Oh for sure. Countess was a HUGE get. I'm definitely guarding my optimism for the secondary this year.
Ouch. We lost a starting db for the season. Practice injuries are the worst.
We lost a lineman as well for the season already. It's rough to be down players before the season even starts.
Duke Williams, our #1 WR that I just raved about like 20 posts ago, is suspended indefinitely. He missed last season's bowl game due to disciplinary issues as well.

Just keep breathing... just keep breathing...
Have they ever specified what it's for exactly? I have heard that he is suspended but never have heard why.

For the current suspension, no. They haven't even said he will miss game time. But he's not practicing right now which doesn't seem good. Plus the coaches keep dodging the question which makes my inner Auburn fan immediately assume the worst, rational or not.
Last year the rumor mill said he got in a fight with Sammie Coates, our #1 WR at the time. Something about Duke talking shit about Sammie's girlfriend. I really, really hope it's not for something stupid like that again.

I missed the start of it being out of town, but Deadspin started their top 25 previews. I love the idea that they just let the readers pick the top 25 rather than pick it themselves. Clemson and Arizona already have had their previews published.
Tennessee and ASU play back to back on opening day. and the roommates will be outta town. It's gonna be 68 hours of me, my grill, and a cooler of beer. I can't wait.

my roommate that year was a gator alum/UT Law student. went to the game with her and it was miserable, and then i went home and she was still there. i never heard the end of it. i still remember the chant: dallas baker, touchdwon maker! over and over and over again. it haunts me.
i drove down to tampa for that game against penn state. the best part of that game was that it was in an NFL stadium and we could buy beer. The game itself was kinda boring and it rained a lot. and then we lost.

I somehow just remembered that abrakapokus and I were at that game. I won tickets from Arby's. While we were exiting the stadium, a group of Florida fans kept chanting "it's great to be a Florida Gator". I feel this is the closest I've ever come to witnessing mob violence considering some of the looks I saw sent their way.

Everyone who played last year should be able to just go onto espn and rejoin the group from last year. 10 games, selected by espn, ranked with confidence points. last year Dave Maynar took an early lead and held it til the end, though rdk gave him a run for his money down the stretch. everyone finished relatively close, except for poor custeph, who suffered from a bit of pick'em amnesia as the season went on.
if you didn't play last year or can't figure out how to rejoin the league, just search for "Inforoo pick 'em" group on ESPN. the password is donkey, chosen to describe most of your picks as I run away with this shiz. (i think we need to up the trash talking element this year)
the more the merrier. I will give the winner some sort of arts and crafts project that my daughter brings home from pre-school that doesn't fit on my fridge, or equivalent.
if you can't figure this out, may god have mercy on your soul (but also message me in case I did something stupid and should check my hubris)
