This is of course a classic, essential post-punk album. It would be a travesty for any music fan to not have listened to this. Coming in at a little under 40 minutes, it's a quick listen.

I'm getting the heavy hitters out of the way first, and then I'll move on to some more lesser known albums. This is another essential album to listen to for anyone interested in the post-punk movement. Say what you will about Morrissey and his antics, but his lyrics are sarcastic and cheeky in the best of ways. Pair that with Johnny Marr on guitar, and you get a consistently great sound. This is probably the most well known album by The Smiths; however, I prefer the album Meat Is Murder.

I am not surprised in the slightest to see that has beaten me to the punch in posting about The Raincoats
Incidentally, one of the 33 1/3s that's in the works is the inimitable Jenn Pelly writing about their self-titled album. Unfortunately, it's not scheduled for release until next year.
The guitars are all relatively clean, and the leads soar like Joy Division or Cure leads, but there's a backbone to the rhythm section.
sweet, gunna download this to my phone and listen right now.
I'll admit I'm skeptical of any contemporary bands whose sound gets compared to Joy Division because that just makes me think of Interpol and disappointment.
