As I currently watch the War On Drugs live stream from Coachella, I'm reminded how much I'd love for them to be at the fort. I always forget how Dylan-esque his voice is live because a bit of that is lost on the album.
They were really good at One Big Holiday. I hope the Jim James connection draws them to the fort.
Newport announces Diamond Rugs, Dawes, and Middle Brother over the course of one day.
I don't think Delta Spirit will be there because there are 3 New England dates on their tour, but they have the gap so Matt can do the Middle Brother set at Newport.
I know it's not very realistic but it was too great a dream not to share with you lovely people

I could actually see them doing middle brother , and diamond rugs , as part of the deer tick aftershows. I bet that could be what's different about this year for the aftershows.
Maybe deer tick won't be headlining all 3 nights this year.

Went to The Milk Carton Kids' performance at Electric Lady Studios in NY tonight. Excellent performance and the stuff from the new album sounds great (standard MCK fare). I had a good chat with Joey Ryan after mostly about Newport. He said as of right now they're not planning on being there. Him and I and two other Newport people were just singing the festivals praise and he told a story about meeting Jack White and then having to miss most of Jack White's set, including when White invited them onstage and he had already left with his small child

Why did you have to remind me they had a set in NYC tonight? Damn. They are one of my favorite discoveries from Newport Folk Festival (and the Showtime special about Inside Llewyn Davis). They were just amazing at the late night set and I had a smile on my face the entire night. Great performers and I hope to see them again many more times.
I'll admit that I have always "liked" them, but never "loved" them because I thought their songs all kind of sounded the same. But this album experiments with garage rock and My Morning Jacket-esque anthems. Brittany sounds like a total rock queen. It definitely is something they could headline Newport behind.

I agree, the new album makes them deserving of the status they're at. "Gimme All Your Love" and "Gemini" are mind blowing. And their Coachella set kicked ass. I'm actually hoping they headline September Boston Calling and not Newport because I want to see them at night. But I'm fine as long as they're at one of the two

I've been looking forward to this a lot. They keep pointing out how they didn't want to be boxed in by their "sound" and wanted to show that they can do different styles and never meant to be what they were getting pigeonholed as. I also read some good stuff in the recent Relix article about how the band have all stepped up and improved greatly which is something I remember @baconus6 relaying back to me from their Shaky Knees performance. I'm excited for Alabama Shakes followup.
Brand new Spirit Family Reunion single and album out today. Newport seems to love these guys. They were there last year as guests if I'm not mistaken (so were Joe Pug and Langhorne Slim who are both already on this year's lineup)

I was disappointed to find out one of the more compelling singers I saw at NFF had left this band. They are still great but there was one guy who really blew me away and I think he went solo. Still put on a fun show but there was something about that one guys voice.
