It's safe to assume they give a minimum of two days between the lineup announcement and ticket sales, so tomorrow is still a possibility. A Saturday would be an odd date to start sales.
There are 15 of us in this thread. I'm an active listener. Was @ Roo last three yrs but not enough bands I wanna c to make a 14 hour trip. Thinking about firefly if the line up suits my tastes. How is security there as far as 420 goes?
Security is pretty lax. No more stringent than any other festival.
I went year 1 and it was fabulous- there was no one there!
I went year 2 and it had tripled in attendance but hadn't really added much space and was laid out poorly. The music was great - namely Petty and Vampire Weekend, wow - but the overall experience was a real headache at times.
I've been to Bonnaroo 3 of the last 4 years, including 2013 where I did Bonnaroo and Firefly back to back, and there's just nothing like it. But I'm in the same boat you're in, Bonnaroo is far (I live in DC) and can get expensive. I'm sure I would have a blast if I went again this year but I'm more open to Firefly than I've been in a while, especially with such a strong crop of headliners rumored (in my opinion at least.) I'm also encouraged by the news that they've partnered with Coachella to iron out logistics.
Here's hoping this lineup a)drops today and b) is good. I'm not especially thrilled with that mock but this would still probably be the fest I attend based on proximity and so many of my friends attending.
Coming from Buffalo, so it's much closer here too. Not overly excited about the undercard, but wouldn't mind seeing Macca again & the Killers should b good. Hoping more smaller or mid level bands I like are added. In the last 17-20 lines I'm interested in A few bands. Saw How To Dress Well @ Pitchfork fest a few years back. Hope his addition is legit. Guy has some pipes on him. Better live than recorded in my opinion.
I know a lot of people dislike Kings of Leon. Is there a major reason why most people don't like them? If you don't like them, why do you personally dislike them?

I don't want to speak for anyone, but I think the perception is the lead singer is a bit of an egotistical diva and I've heard mix reviews on their live performances when it comes to energy. That being said, if you listen to some of their older stuff and even their latest album they have some pretty solid music. This isn't Nickleback or Creed. They got huge on the radio from singles like 'Use Somebody' and 'Sex on Fire' and that's always going to generate some backlash.

I personally will always be a fan of KOL but that's directly from my love of their first 3 albums. Mostly everything since then has been watered down pop rock, with the exception of a few good tracks here and there.

i was a casual fan of them, then saw them live. i now never want to see them again. they had no stage presence, and sounded like they just hit play on their album and got up there

They have become such a token indie band, like, let's put their songs in commercials and have them play the super bowl to have them appeal to indie fans, kind of like how the black keys are now. Let's just put this band as a headliner to even out the genre pool. True indie fans don't like them the same way true hip hop fans don't like Kanye or Lil Wayne.

My only gripe with them and the killers headlining (Id consider myself a fan of both bands) is just the fact that they've been everywhere since their last albums, touring heavily and playing a lot of festivals. Not to mention both bands have fallen off in quality of music since their earlier work
Maybe we will hear something shortly. I noticed on the Facebook fan page there are several local papers sharing the same generic promo in the last hour, so maybe they've been asked to do so to create a buzz. They may be planning it around Forecastles announcement too.

Yeah I agree, I was lukewarm on their music before MIA last year, and even being five rows of people from the stage, I still left after 5 songs. No stage presence at all.

"Hipsters" get a bad rap of hating all things mainstream but the fact is that a lot of musicians dial it back and become too radio friendly when they breakthrough. The success brings about new influences and they concern themselves with opinions that didn't matter when they were just about the music. KOL is a perfect example of this. Their best music is behind them.

If I remember right, last year a few of the smaller artists on the lineup started tweeting out about playing the festival in the hours leading up to the drop. No clue if that'd happen again or not.
I was just asking cause I never really got the hate. I've been a fan since album 2, and they have great tracks. I think people really disliked Come Around Sundown, but that record's mood and overall tone is the most consistent of any of their albums. I will agree they do not have a huge stage presence, but at least they sound great. They have a lot of tunes that just feel like automatic rock classics: California Waiting, The Bucket, Charmer, etc. I think the are a suitable headliner, but I think they could replace the Killers with a Hip-Hop act (but that feels very un-Firefly).
They definitely should have gotten a hip hop headliner for Saturday night

Last Edit: Jan 27, 2015 11:49:41 GMT -5 by ne215: KOL is terrible live - Back to Top
Soon:
5/9 The Polish Ambassador 5/10 Sean Paul 5/24 Andy Fraso & The UN, Pigeons Playing Ping pong 6/8 Gary Clark Jr. 6/20 SNACKTIME 7/12 Disco Biscuits (Atlantic City) 7/25 Beck w/The Philadelphia Orchestra 7/31 Justice 8/14 Ripe (Asbury Park) 8/24 Ripe (Philly) 8/25 Ripe (NY)
'The bottom was too fuckin crowded Just like a crab in a barrel I fought to get out if it But they wouldn't allow it And still i got out and go' Killer Mike
I expected to hear something today (but won't be surprised) if we don't. With that said, it is pretty annoying that we have no idea when it is coming.
I expected today because they historically have announced on Tuesdays. I would also add that early in a week is Monday and Tuesday - mid week= Wednesday and late in the week = Thursday and Friday.
I don't know what to think of their Facebook posts in response to people...could go either way on what that means.
It would be a serious dick move to post that response if they weren't planning on releasing it today.
I feel like Firefly/Red Frog never have any real schedule for lineup release. They just release it whenever they're done with it. Facebook comments like "When we post the lineup, we'll likely post here first" don't point to a firm plan.

To be fair, the logistics were much improved last year (year 3), even without the Goldenvoice partnership. The grounds were significantly expanded, and the new main stage area worked very well. They even (mostly) fixed the traffic/arrival problems.
They're going with basically the same layout this year. If they just add more water refill stations near the main stage, and improve the camping check-in process, this year will be fine.
I agree, responding like that wouldn't be a good move if not today.
But they have done odd stuff in the past.
I love firefly and think they are amazing and creative - but sometimes the ideas kind of backfire. Like the whole idea of day long announcements last year. Don't get me wrong as part of that I won an amazing free experience - but I felt like the day was a let down because they had expectations set so high. I am a huge firefly fan and can only hope that as the festival grows and matures their ideas will be executed more seamlessly

I've been to every Firefly and have never had a problem, nor heard of or seen anyone have a problem. I was partaking about 99.6% of the time I was there.
Firefly is very active today on Facebook. I feel like they would at least say something now about a certain time if they are going to release it. Who knows.

Pretty much what asseenontv said. I was a huge fan until around 2012 when I started hearing about the lead singer walking off stage during shows, being a drunk(in the bad rock n roll way), performances being spotty. I'm pretty sure they even cancelled a whole tour because of the lead singer.

I haven't paid close attention to a lot of other festivals release schedules. Have most of them been giving a set lineup date or have they just out of the blue dropped on their website/Facebook? Just doesn't seem like the most professional way to be handling things.
