Edit: By the way, I am pretty close to hoping against a Tennessee upset. If Tennessee wins, Vol Nation might burn the entire city to the ground in celebration.

Is this a bad thing because you don't want your town to burn, or because you won't be there to join in?

my friend, a teacher in DC and fellow vol alum, sent me this message this morning: "just a piece of info to mate your hate-saturday better. after the great migration when all of the african americans in the south sterted coming to northern cities, it created a sitation that persists to this day but was even more pronounced then that these huge numbers of people living in the city had huge numbers of family still living in the south. so when their country cousins came to visit people in DC, they would be 'hicks' and 'rubes', dress funny etc. DC residents called these people 'bamas'. in DC to this day, "tacky day" (spirit week) in high school is called 'Bama day'. so, just keep in mind that there are many people in the mid atlantic who consider 'Bama' a pejorative." can't verify the veracity or anything. but quack, eh, quack bama regardless.
This season has just felt so different. Nothing explains it better than a headline I just read: "Arizona Wildcats are bowl-eligible, which used to be a huge deal". It feels like things are changing. I can't remember the last time at this point in the season 9 wins felt completely possible. It's a good time to be an Arizona sports fan. Fun fact: no university in the country is ranked higher combined between football and the preseason basketball.
At the beginning of the season, I said the Beavers would probably go 7-5 and finish in the middle of the North division.
Now I'm just hoping they can beat Cal and Wazzu so they're not the cellar dwellers. Because I'm not sure which of ASU/Wash/Oregon they can possibly knock off.

I think they have a better shot beating UW than Cal. Goff has really impressed me all season
Would any of you agree with this comment made by Dabo Swinney? "To be honest with you I'd rather win 16-6 than 50-35 any day." I have to say I don't agree with that. I feel great about the way our defense is playing right now but I feel a lot better when we're scoring lots of points.

The Pac 12 really needs to reconsider the 9th regular season in conference game. No other conference does it that also plays a championship game, I feel like were just shooting ourselves in the foot. Not saying we should go add a Southern Miss or Florida Atl to pad our schedules but adding a quality out of conference opponent would allow for more wins to go around.

I would hate to see the 9th conference game go. I understand why it makes sense, but I also think it makes the Pac-12 the most competitive conference in the country. Even as it is there is a good chance for 9 bowl eligible teams with a longshot for 10. I still miss the full round robin of the Pac-10 really. Hopefully it is something that the Playoff committee will take in to consideration, just like the Basketball committee puts so much weight on strength of schedule lately.

Wazzu is a bit worrisome too, considering Halliday's thrown for nearly 1000 yards more than anyone else in the country

Very true, but WSU has made it obvious that they have zero defense. Cal's defense certainly isn't great but can force a turnover or two and get a few stops

1) Quarterback controversies are the worst. Everyone was happy with Worley until Saturday. Now, tons of people want Dobbs in (just like they had said "all along"). Regardless of who Jones picks, they have to play like All Americans Saturday, or I will have to another week of people bitching about why he didn't start the other one. 2) Nothing like October to feed the schizophrenia of a team's fanbase. I have heard over the last couple of weeks about how Jones "may not be the guy" and how the program will be ruined when Michigan hires him away. (Edit: It's the same people worried about those two things)

1) I think Dobbs looked great aginst Bama. I figured we would see him at some point because Peterman has shown he can't do anything, but I was honestly dreading Dobbs going out there. He played terribly at the end of last season, and word is he was pretty bad in practice this year as well. Didn't bode well against a team like Bama. but he showed he can be cool under pressure, make good throws, though not always good decisions (see: interception) and greatly reduces the pressure on our sieve of an offensive line. I don't think any of this means he necessarily should have been playing before saturday, or that he is a better QB than worley (he isn't; worley is better at just about everything, but that zone read works a lot better when there is a threat the qb will actually keep the ball). It just becomes a much more dynamic offense with Dobbs, evidenced by our 180 yards rushing (I wouldn't have hesitated to bet my house we wouldn't get that many yards on the ground). But we didn't know this would be the case before saturday, when essentially Jones' hand was forced. It could be a fluke, could just be a fortuitous turn of events. But most TN fans are awful armchair coaches whose hindsight is 20/20.
2) the people think Jones isn't the guy, are idiots. If Jones leaves for Michigan...he is an idiot. Why leave one dumpster fire that he has nearly put out to go to another dumpster fire that will rage on until the institutional problems (ie: Dave Brandon) are gone.
Someone update me on this. Are they just saying these are the best teams right now or are they saying this top four would be the playoffs if they were held today? If it's the latter, even I can't get down with the SEC having three out of the four playoff spots.
Edit: Either way, I can't endorse Ole Miss being in the top 4. That's just cray.

If the season ended today, that top four would be your playoff teams.

Auburn and Ole Miss play Saturday. Either Ole Miss will lose and it won't be an issue or they'll win and they'll deserve it.

Thanks guys. I somehow forgot about that game even though I just did my initial picks an hour ago. I still think it's crazy to have three teams from the same conference in the top four at any point unless there's some really strong evidence to support it, and there are a ton of quality one loss teams from other conferences. One of them could easily fill that four spot over Ole Miss.

I agree with you entirely. I was stunned to see Ole Miss in there. My Auburn-addled brain leads me to believe the committee really overweighted their Alabama win. "Oh they beat Bama? They must be AMAZING."
I figured it would be Oregon. I'm just thankful it's not Notre Dame.

Butch Jones on Michigan: “It’s not even worth discussing. There’s no validity to it. I’m not even gonna waste your time or my time by even commenting on that. I think y’all know how I feel.” "I may have grown up in Michigan, but I am from Tennessee."
Shit I will hear today: "He's just covering it up to get a better salary." "Of course, he's not going to say anything until it's announced!"
