This year, Arcade Fire was way better live than QOTSA.
Arcade Fire were fantastic live this year. It was way better than QOTSA show I saw last year. But, to be fair, they went on after Yeah Yeah Yeahs, which was one of the top 10 best shows I ever seen. They didn't have much of a chance after that.
140+ minutes of music, maybe 25 of it worth having around.
I feel The Suburbs as a whole really sags in the middle. Reflektor, though, is a gem start to finish. I love every track. Then again, I think Neon Bible was their best, and Funeral is way overrated. I'd take The Suburbs and Reflektor over Funeral any day. </unpopularopinion>
Anyway, Merchandise is pretty great and will probably grow on me more, but Manipulator is still ringing in my ears. I'll wait to vote by the deadline just in case I get lobotomized by aliens and end up liking They Want My Soul more, but as of now Manipulator wins.
They like their Arcade Fire watered down and the most important component of a song for them is lyrics. What else is there to get?
It's not that lyrics are the most important to me, it's just that AF somehow managed to make the lyrics on Reflektor sound both cliched and forced. "I'M A NORMAL PERSON I LIKE TO HAVE FUN!!"

What if the camera really do take your soul? Flashbulb eyes!

I've been listening to Merchandise in the background at work all day. Haven't really had a chance to listen to it due to me pretending to work, but Enemy is the standout track for me so far.
Of the albums I've given a fair listen, I'm enjoying Ty Segall and Spoon most.
I think September will be a two horse race between Interpol and DFA1979 for me
but Goat!?!?!
Goat is fucking awesome and they were one of the best shows I saw at bonnaroo this year, but my connection to Interpol and DFA1979 will probably cloud my judgement haha. Also coming out next month is Julian Casablancas + The Voidz, Tweedy, and Aphex Twin. Lots of good stuff to be heard
