try to see something on the sonic stage, it would be a mistake to skip over it entirely
Def agree on this. Pick an artist you really dig, and see them here. Very intimate and most of the bands sign autographs after so bring a cd of the band

Has someone said take LOTS of pictures (I haven't read all 10 pages)? I love looking back on my pictures and I always wish I had taken more. Campsite, neighbors, bands, food, anything that makes you smile. You'll be happy you did.
For the noobies, I highly recommend reading through the 10 pages here. There's some really great advice! (including bringing shade, taking lots of pictures, drinking lots of water during the day--and less alcohol, breaking in your shoes before you go, and finding landmarks near your campsite to make it easier to find)

That reminds me of last year. There was a camp near mine that had a teepee that was 15ft tall and white. I told them how it was the only reason I could find my tent at night. They said I was the 7th person to say the same thing.

Yea I took one picture last year... and it was a crappy pic of the fountain with my phone. really wish I had more.

For the ones that do not read it here are the two most important rules.
1. Take half the food you think you need and twice the clothes.
2. Do NOT forget to wear or bring sunscreen (even if it is cloudy), I bring two spray cans every year and put more on others than I do on myself.
Some of my own to add (that are important enough to be repeated):
1. Practice setting up your tent and shade canopy at home, especially if they are new and/or you've never done it before. It will save you invaluable time at Roo!
2. Bring your own toilet paper into the port-o-potties. You'll be so glad you did. Sometimes you'll get lucky and find a port-o well stocked, but more often than not, it will be out of TP.
3. Take it easy during the day so you can get wild during at late night. Drink more water and gatorade than beer during the daylight hours.
4. If you get separated from your friends, don't sweat it. (Other people have posted in this thread about having a designated meeting place if you do get separated) See the shows you want to see and meet up with your friends later.
5. Leave your phone behind in your car or at your campsite; don't bring it to Centeroo. I love the feeling of being "free" at Roo.
No real sociological mistakes that I can think of here, but my I feel I should bring up our real noob mistake that we made first year. We got separated after using the bathroom and at that moment realized that we had no plan in mind for if that happened. She met up with some really nice ladies that let her use their phone to call mine to tell me where she was. (literally 6 feet from me on the other side of the portos). It's easy to get turned around and disoriented. Not to mention we were not following the other advice in this thread...TAKE IT EASY until the sun goes down. Liquor and the sun will totally wipe you out!

Don't forget about Troo Music Lounge or Cafe Where either. They're all smaller acts, but there are some serious gems in the mix.
This. One of the biggest rookie mistakes I can think of is spending too much time at the big stages. Obviously, you should go see the bands you love, but you should give tiny bands you've never heard of a shot. Just think, in a few years you can be one of those douchebags who knew the band BEFORE they got big.
As far as shoes go, bring a variety. That way, if you get blisters in one spot, you have a different pair that won't rub in the same place.

Budget. Don't burn through all your cash on Thursday and Friday. If you're planning on getting unsober, separate what you're willing to spend that day-night and separate it from the rest of your money, then make the rest of your money difficult to get to, but still on your person, or locked up somewhere secure and nondescript. Not having bought that shiny bauble thing when you were 2 bloody marys, 3 mimosas and 4 ninja porters in is better than wanting just one 5 dollar arepa, but you blew all your cash on the shiny bauble and can't eat it.
Another one: use a bike lock and attach it to your cooler and something else (EZ up, etc). If you have more than one cooler, attach the lock to the one containing the beer.
On that note, do not keep your deodorant in the cooler with the beer! Because if somene makes off with your beer cooler, you'll be in trouble. Coming from personal experience.

It cant be stressed enough... BRING YOUR OWN TP INTO THE PORTA JOHNS! most the time the guy before you that had the the 2 gyros and a 6 pack of bud heavys used the last of the roll provided by the people that clean the shit boxes. so along with your roo ticket, bring the second most important ticket... your shit tickets.

This is worth emphasizing. Keep a roll at the campsite but also keep some in a plastic bag to carry into Centeroo.
Being drunk or otherwise in a dark, smelly Centeroo Port-o-john at 3:30 AM is not the place to realize that you're about to have to be creative....Trust me.

hence the walking around wearing only one sock?
I wish I had been wearing socks. I won't get into the details, just bring TP...
1.) DANCE! 2.) Treat others the way you want to be treated 3.) Help your neighbor 4.) Take care of your body (food and sunscreen) 5.) Utilize the buddy system 6.) Beware of theives

I have a question about cameras since so many are saying take pictures. I have a rad digital SLR with a few different lenses. I reeeally wanna take it, but not sure I should. Would you guys?

Without a photo press wristband, security has free reign to quack with you for bringing anything with a removable lens. I'd leave your rad SLR at home where it's safe.
