Hey gang -- first off just want to just give a shout out to everyone that takes the time to organize/post on this board because it's an amazing social tool and network of information.
Okay, NEXT -- like many others out there, I'm pissed about the new Tent Only policy, especially it being announced so late in the game that my gang couldn't jump into a group camp before the deadline. I'm left feeling like two doors were suddenly slammed in my face and then a troll pinched my butt and then all my teeth fell out. The cool thing about TO and Groop (even just blind joining one) IMO was you could start discussion ahead of time about who's bringing what, what can be shared, get to know some of your co-campers, etc (as many appear to do for the much larger TO Camp Inforoo in the past) They are great outlets for small groups (we have 3) to band together and pool resources. I don't like the idea of just being randomly tossed in GA and not knowing if our neighbors are into or even prepared for stringing a community space together. Furthermore, it upsets me that I'm essentially penalized for renting a larger vehicle to carpool ride-less folks by then having less space to share among more people (again because it's unknown how communal and space-sharing neighbors will be).
THEREFORE, I PROPOSE to use this thread as a space to:
1. Organize a MEET-UP at a consensed upon location in Nashville early Thursday morning to form a caravan and roll in together and build our own organized group camp wherever. (I picked Nash because it seemed like a natural spot for anyone coming from the north and far enough away from the chaos in Manchester that it would be easy to group up and roll out quickly. I chose early AM Thurs because I don't want Pod 1 and it seems that's a generally smoother entrance time than Wed night and it's daylight) 2. Get to know a little bit about those interested in joining this group 3. Discuss what we're bringing, extra supplies we can share and what we can contribute to construct a communal space 4. Create a group name to post on our vehicles
Even if it's just 4 or 5 cars of us, I think it would be worth it. And no snobby deadline! Anyone interested?
This is a nice idea. I'm not sure of my plans yet (i.e. whether some friends will be coming with or I'm flying solo), but this may be something I'd be interested in.
We may be interested. Still putting together our travel plans though. My sister-in-law is moving to Nashville so we may stay with her Wednesday night and it would be perfect for us to meet up with you Thursday morning.
By the way, just a note on possible meet-up times. My group last year rolled in at about 3am and it turned out perfect. We were only in line for about 20 minutes, got a great spot (Camp Adrien) and were set up by 4:30 so were able to do some sleeping before the sun came up. We may have just been lucky, though, that was my first Roo.
I am going to drop the reigns on this specific idea, since the tent-only policy has been reversed, though I am still open to coordinating with peeps also migrating to T.O.
