I mean, he's the only example I can think of. this is not about a race this is about Richard Sherman, since he is the one that did it. I don't recall anyone of any race acting like that before.
Oh it's very much about race.
Seriously, when's the last time you recall a white player being referred to as a "thug?" Is this something you think happens often?
On the flip side, when's the last time someone praised Tom Brady or Peyton Manning for being "well-spoken?"
you're making it about that. you're making it more than it is. the guy just made a huge play to send his team to the super bowl. should he be excited? yes. can he get a little crazy? yes. should he go on an angry tirade directed at an opposing player and put all of the spotlight on himself? no. he obviously has a beef with Crabtree, but that was not the time to express it.

He made the clutch play that sealed his team going to the Super Bowl. I think he does get to make it a little about him.
On a side note, this Cleveland Browns coaching search has turned into a total dumpster fire, amirite?
Yeah. It seemed like they really had their sights set on the guy from Denver. I think they messed up with firing Chudzinski after one season. It would be hard for a coach to want to take that chance given that he could get fired so quickly.

What are the chances that Haslam gets indicted and the Browns have to hire back the Chud on the same day? He would collapse in on himself like a dying star.
So you've equated a black athlete yelling into a camera with a white/latino one who has murdered a bunch of people. Well done, Sang.

I think Tajh is just as good as Geno. if he gets a shot he will do ok. will he actually get a shot though? is the question.
I've been to every Senior Bowl practice this week and at least in this setting, Boyd has looked erratic, with very little confidence. Most of the QB's here have disappointed. Carr looked ok yesterday and the guy who had looked the best the first two days was actually the Garoppolo kid from Eastern Illinois. McCarron has probably seen his stock rise this week simply by not participating.

I think Garaoppolo will end up being over-drafted because of the weak QB class.
It's funny, people talked this QB class up big time over the past year, but now it's turning into "Teddy B, Johnny Football, David Carr's little, less shitty brother, and a bunch of project players."
Someone will take Bortles about 15 picks too soon and that will be fun, too.

he would have to be in the right offense. he's not the old style pro qb. the Jets would actually be a bad fit for him, so I hope he goes somewhere else. I think he can be an NFL qb. but I think he's either going to be a starter or he's going to be a bust. because he's not typically what they look for he won't be a career backup.

It's interesting the advantage the underclassmen are getting not being eligible to play here this week. They will still have pro days and be at the combine etc, but there will not be a time from now til the draft where they suit up against guys trying to tackle them, let alone against the top seniors trying to raise their own stock. EJ last year is the only QB in the last few years who helped himself.
Cameras caught Matt Ryan screaming at the other team to "get the fuck off my field" last season after a win. Tom Brady chased a referee into the tunnel after the end of a game this season screaming "that is fucking horrible." Both were worse offenses but didn't get near this type of backlash. But they aren't "thugs" I guess. *wink wink* *nod nod*

They heard your feedback.
"The wait is over. The Cleveland Browns have reportedly offered the head coaching job to Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. "

I think Bortles might have the most upside of those three. That's a dangerous word to use drafting a QB in first round but his size, arm strength and ability to move are a good match for today's NFL schemes. I've come around on Johnny Football. I'd take him before any other QB. He's a winner (on the field)
Boyd also hurt himself at the weigh in. He was listed at 6'2 and measured out under 6'1.
yea, the perception of him being too short is what is hurting him. he has the ability to do it, he just has to get the chance.
That isn't perception, he is too short. For every Doug Flutie, there are 100 short QB's who never make it because they are simply too small to play the position. Boyd also doesn't really stand tall in the pocket. Mark Sanchez and Geno are basically the same height, but Geno looks bigger because he stands tall in the pocket, on the balls of his feet. Mark would sit on his heels and slouch, leading to way more batted passes, etc.
I just don't think Boyd has enough skill to overcome his size disadvantage.

At least for this small sample of practices, he has not shown the ability to do it. Throw in that his height is not a perception and he is not doing himself any favors. That said, as the mayor said above, once you get past the top three they are lumped together. He could still go in 2nd or 3rd round because of how many teams need a QB and how few there are this year.

there are shorter qb's. I don't think he's too short. and he definitely has the arm to make any throw. he will have to adjust to differences in the game and he does tend to get flustered when things go bad and makes some WTF throws, but other than that I think he has the ability to be a good qb. sounds like NFL teams/scouts are as differing in opinion as we are. some say he could go in the 1st rd., others say he's not even draftable. so we'll just have to see how it goes.

Teddy B is my top prospect, and has been for a while. He has a great blend of mental capacity and physical ability.
I have serious doubts about a 5'11" mobile QB lasting in the NFL. I know teams have incorporated read option and QB runs into NFL offenses now, but they're usually much bigger than Johnny Football. The lone exception is Wilson, who is only slightly bigger than Manziel. But Wilson rarely takes a hit (it's his style to take the yards and go out of bounds/slide instead of bowling over a DB for 2 more yards), and I expect that's something Manziel would have to learn, opening himself up to huge hits (if he's a starter in Year 1).
I know this may be way off, but Bortles reminds me a bit of Sanchez. I haven't gotten to look into him as much as the others (he was a late declare), but from what I've seen I feel like I'm watching a slightly taller Sanchez. I guess time will tell.

you've seen him practice for a week. I've seen him play over 40 times. and before someone says it, no I don't think this way about every Clemson qb. I've actually never thought any of them would be an nfl qb before.

The list of QB's who are shorter than Boyd and start in the NFL: - Drew Brees - Russell Wilson
One is one of the most prolific passers ever. The other is one of the highest football IQ's this side of Peyton Manning, freakishly huge hands, a literal cannon strapped to his shoulder and very good field vision.
Those two guys have traits that make them special. You've watched Boyd more than I have, what would you say are qualities that make him "special."
To be undersized at QB in the NFL there has to be something (or some things) that you do as-good-or-better-than anyone. I don't see anything that Boyd would do better than other QB's.

Think more Big Ben and less Sanchez when looking at Bortles. Wilson isn't the lone exception (that Brees guy is pretty good) but I generally agree with that point. Manziel is a playmaker. He has shown time and time again against top competition he makes plays. He's a shorter version of Big Ben but in the same mold as a guy who can extend plays. The thing that is hardest to put a number on or quantify but can still see it is Johnny's football instincts. I may be putting more on that then physical attributes but it's off the charts for him.

I saw Russell Wilson play in college as well, when he was at NC St. he improved vastly since then, they must have really helped him at Wisconsin, because I never would have thought he would be as good as he is. Tajh has a lot going for him, his arm, his mobility, his size(he may may be short, but he's built well and can not only take a hit, he was our short yardage back) he's tough and durable and he's smart enough to pick up whatever offense he has to run. also the game is changing with athletes at qb like Wilson, Newton, Kaepernick, RG3, etc. I also think Manziel is going to be a star. Tajh may not ever be a star, but I feel like he could be a good nfl qb.

Right. I've come here this week not having ever seen any of these guys ever touch a football. I live 2 hours from Clemson, seen every game too and been to a few. I'm not against him, I have no reason to be. I'm saying in this setting, which traditionally carries good weight to your draft stock, playing against the best seniors in the country he has struggled. It also doesn't mean he can't be a nfl QB. All it means is he is not doing himself any favors this week when given a chance to showcase himself in front of scouts and analysts from every team.

yea you're right. I've read some of the stuff about him struggling the first couple of practices, but I also read that he did a lot better yesterday. like I said earlier I've read some stuff about him where the NFL guys are not interested in him at all, but others are very interested. he may get a shot, he may not. he may be a bust, he may not. I'm just saying personally from what I've seen, I think he can play.
I think Bortles has a ceiling of Big Ben and a real chance at being somewhere along the lines of Tannehill (sp).
I really don't get the Big Ben connection. Big Ben is an OL with an arm, Bortles is much smaller than Ben. Just because he shakes off tackles in a mid-conference doesn't make me confident he's doing it to NFL pass rushers.
I admittedly haven't watched a lot of tape on him, but I guess I should since I'm apparently missing something obvious.
back to the what makes him special question. I would say I've never seen anyone throw the deep ball as well as he does and be the short yardage back. have you? he's a unique talent. and that is part of what makes him so debatable. there are not other Tajh Boyd's out there.
