back to the what makes him special question. I would say I've never seen anyone throw the deep ball as well as he does and be the short yardage back. have you? he's a unique talent. and that is part of what makes him so debatable. there are not other Tajh Boyd's out there.
I can guarantee you he doesn't throw a nicer deep ball than existing NFL QB's, and you don't want a 6' guy to be a short yardage back unless he's 240 pounds and built like a brick shithouse. Neither of those things makes Boyd "special," imo.
And I'm not saying these things to troll you because it's Clemson, I'm giving you honest analysis based on what I've seen vs. what it takes to be good in the NFL.

he used to be 240. but he was slow as hell. down to like 225 now and he's still pretty big but also pretty fast. idk maybe I will be wrong about him. we'll see.

I thought you were talking about Johnny Football there for a second. Lol. I won't see Boyd today. I'm only going to South team practice. I'm rooting for him, I just don't share your optimism.
I'd also tell you that in the NFl, he won't be used or needed as a short yardage QB. It's a sure fire way to take years off your career. That was a great skill in college that won't be needed in the NFL. His ability to scramble is a benefit but he will have to show he can drop back and stay in the pocket under pressure. It's just something he hasn't needed to do much at Clemson, not something he can't do.

oh, I know he won't need to that. I'm saying if he's durable and tough enough to do that, he will be able to handle the physical level of the nfl.
I think Bortles has a ceiling of Big Ben and a real chance at being somewhere along the lines of Tannehill (sp).
I really don't get the Big Ben connection. Big Ben is an OL with an arm, Bortles is much smaller than Ben. Just because he shakes off tackles in a mid-conference doesn't make me confident he's doing it to NFL pass rushers.
I admittedly haven't watched a lot of tape on him, but I guess I should since I'm apparently missing something obvious.
I don't think there is anything obvious about Bortles. Most have labeled him as a high potential pick with not enough to go off of. I watched most of his games (just graduated UCF) and he just seems pretty strong and poised. Solid arm and accuracy but I always felt like he locked on to his main option. IDK I suck at any form of scouting.

This isn't scouting, necessarily, but it's still helpful. I'll definitely try to follow his reads when I watch him, but people are throwing him in at the #1 overall pick in some mocks and that's more what I'm talking about when I say "I don't get it." A late-first/early 2nd? Much more reasonable for Bortles, imo.

I would be pretty upset if the jags drafted him with the 3rd overall but would be overjoyed if we could snag him near the top of the second. #1 overall would be a HUGE risk. Could end up being worth it but wow thatd be quite the story. I don't feel like he was on anyones radar even halfway through the season.
so this is an issue that I've never heard of with Tajh. He's always been accurate. If he struggles at all it would be with short passes, he would misfire on screens then throw a deep ball as pretty as any I've seen. Obviously he isn't helping himself this week but I still believe he has what is takes.

Accuracy was a problem all week. I hope he had a better practice today. Carr looked real good today. David Fales did not. The Auburn kid Dee Ford has been a monster all week. Jordan Matthews is a chiseled beast of a man. I saw a play where Liberty DB Walt Aikens hurt his groin getting tangled in the end zone and on the field after practice I heard him tell his agent that his dick was bleeding. That can't be good.

I don't think Tajh is going to make it as a starter. Sure he can move, but he isn't near the athlete that the other mobile QB's in the league are. He isn't fast enough to outrun most NFL quality LBs and DBs. He does have a huge arm, but his accuracy isn't mind blowing. He has benefited greatly from having some great receivers. Also, I usually don't put much stock into this, but he has disappointed in almost every big game he has played in college, in the NFL every week brings that kind of pressure for the QB.
I wish him the best, I've really enjoyed watching him play in the ACC, I just don't see a long term starting job in his future.

Did you not see him play against Ohio St or LSU or Georgia? He played his best in those huge games. He played great in almost every big game. I think he beat 8 top 10 teams in his career. The only times that he didn't were in the FSU game this year and against SC.

I thought beating SC was the most important thing and therefore the biggest games?

He played poorly in every game against South Carolina, so I guess that sticks out more in my mind, being the last game of the season and a rivalry game.
Cancel what I said yesterday. Still a dumpster fire. From the twitter of Pettine's daughter:
I wonder if Jimmy will follow his "Coaching searches are supposed to take this long" letter to season ticket holders with a "So...does anyone have any coaching experience" letter...
You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.

You're old thread about Knoxville Dave??? Add Jimmy Bob Haslam. He's a complete f#@#ing waste. I wish he'd get indicted and lose the team already. One has to feel sorry for Pettine, unless of course he can stage a coup with Ray Farmer.

I'm watching the Senior Bowl and Tajh has nothing to work with. those wr's suck. he still has looked like the 2nd best qb after Carr.
Haha you're ridiculous.
what's ridiculous about it? he wasn't playing with much talent. the other qb's did't look great either. Logan Thomas is the worst ever, if anyone drafts him they should be shot.
CLEVELAND – Claiming that the organization needed, “a fresh new approach,” the Cleveland Browns today announced the firing of Mike Pettine, the former defensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills whom the team hired as their new head coach sixteen hours prior to his termination.
“At this time, the Browns franchise has chosen to part ways with Mike Pettine,” said team G.M. Michael Lombardi. “We thank Mike for everything that he’s done during his nearly full-day stay with our team, and we wish him well in all his future endeavors. Unfortunately, we just didn’t see the hour-to-hour improvement that we were looking for.”

Well if he did get fired at least he could have one of the best winning percentages in Browns history. Anyone got Charlie Weis's # ?Lombardi sucks though just another Millen. But good luck in Cleveland. Just don't buy a house. And we know no-one goes to Cleveland for vacation.

What's rediculous is that it's an all star game so none of them suck. Even if we agree that they are not Sammy Watkins, if Boyd is that good of a QB, he would make those around him better. What you are saying is he needs Sammy Watkins, not just a bunch of college all stars to be good.

the guys that were playing wr were mostly replacements because others either got hurt or chose not to play. and all of the wr talent are Jr.'s anyway. and yes the talent he played with at Clemson is better than those on that all star team. I'm just saying, I hope he's not judged off of that, because that's not a very good representation of how he can play. none of the qbs out there looked great.
