The thing is he wasn't planning on competing this time around. But for whatever reason about a year ago he decided to. And he's really only been training for this years olympics for about 8 months. He even dropped one of his events.
There's no denying Phelp's talent. But I've always like Ryan's attitude towards the sport better. I hope he continues to medal.
Like I said. The men just keep doing things that they aren't supposed to be doing. Not just the US. Australia was supposed to medal. They were favored. I love Emon Sullivan. SO once again the favorite gold places 4th.
Last night was an awesome night as I sat & cheered for Team USA. Yes, I knew that results already (damn you Huff Post, CNN, Facebook, sports talk radio & everywhere else that spoiled me), but I still stayed up til almost midnight watching.
Ahhh. The 100M freestyle -- so awesome. The race most of 'em swim as if they were trying to save their mother from drowning. Just a crazy, lung-exploding sprint.
Nathan Adrian --unsung Team USA swimmer-- knocks down the Gold medal. Nice!
And Rebecca Soni is setting Olympic records in 200 butterfly... in her semis! Can't wait 'til she starts actually swimming "for real".
Men's 200 IM semi- , up next. MP vs. Lochte again.
EDIT -- so, Lochte (1) and Phelps (2) had the best semi times in 200 IM? Sets up an incredible final. Phelps is inarguably the greatest competitive swimmer alive. But Lochte is no chump, and he has a point he really wants to make. We'll see if he can dig that deep. It's gonna be exciting, for sure
POST EDIT -- Women's 4X 200 relay team are now badass Gold, too!
..to ask you to cheer on Kathleen Hersey in the womens' 200m butterfly. A grade school classmate of my daughter Maggie's, she is a nice girl and has spent many a night at our home in grade school. Her mother (a wonderful lady) died during the past year, so I'm hoping that Kathleen has a good showing in her honor.
she swam so strong, Zen, and I was definitely pulling for her -- on your desciption. guess she just barely got edged out on the touch for bronze... which was rough. she should be proud of her showing, though, for sure.
I'm so excited about this year's Olympics. I backpacked Europe in 2005, when the cities were campaigning to hold the Olympics. My friend and I decided Paris was too arrogant like they had it in the bag, so we hoped London would win. We flew home from London and had a very rough flight. They announced on the plane that London won the bid and the plane just erupted in applause, it was so awesome.
I loved the independent athletes too, and I got teary eyed watching the Iraqi flag bearer.

Been staying up way too late every night watching the NBC evening re-broadcast or whatever you wanna call it. Too many commercials, dragging it out. I never see who wins the gold in gymnastics and the floor exercise is my favorite, which is on last at night.
Gabby, first girl to win gold in the all-around and in individual. USA is really dominating this year- but China is pretty close behind.
Really? 150,000 condoms? I'd think that the athletes are too busy for that, and the language barriers, and the constant scrutiny from coaches, media, ect. but I guess there could be alot of baby-making going on.
If you think about it. They are all living together in the olympic village for two weeks. They all have at least one thing in common. Olympians. Which means they all have slammin' bodies.
And most are no stranger to traveling the world so I'm sure they've picked up the phrase "wanna bone" in a few languages.
Also no one is competing for the entire two weeks. Swimming and Gymnastics are almost done. I know there are a few other sports that are wrapping up. That means all of the training and competing is done so they have a week to celebrate.
yeah there was even talk that the arrival of all the athletes crashed a mobile app called grindr (a "dating" app for gay guys).....the company later said "it had nothing to do with the influx", but it was pretty coincidental haha.

Michael Phelps: "Protein shake anyone? Back at my condo tonight?" Phelps just strikes me as a player (or wannabe player).
What about that judo fighter, Kayla Harrison, winning the gold medal? I think she should be allowed to have some private time in the ring with her former coach- I'm pretty sure she could handle him now...what she went through, having been sexually assaulted by him as a child and still maintaining her love for the sport is resilience at its best.

And she wants to come home & become a firefighter. What a story.
"Of course. I think there’s just something about getting into chlorine water that you just automatically go. during the races, but I sure did in warm-up.”
I can't help it, I just love Phelps & what he's accomplished. So much so that I forgive him for smoking it up in Columbia a few years back. It's not what he was doing that bothered me, it was that he was doing it with the most hated South Carolina Gamecocks!
Yeah, the male swimmers DO have killer physiques, but have you seen UK runner Jessica Ennis?!? HOLY PHYSICAL PERFECTION, BATMAN! That chick is fierce! I almost turned off the TV after swimming, but she kept me riveted. Yowza.

It's cool to know that you are a "principled" woman. Bless ya.

Sometimes, it's just very hard to look away. I get it.
Unless it's mens gymnastics, and then I turn away like they're poltergeist. I tell you, they're just like lil' ninja assassins in spandex, and they populate my nightmares.
I can't stop watching this "team pursuit" bicycle thing right now. It's so ridiculous.
I got a little teary today after the relay. My daughter asked me today that if we can move to Baltimore so she can join that team. I love our team here but I wish I could tell her yes.
I hate that the swimming is over now. It's so hard to find televised meets during non-olympic years.
Side note...I love olympic commercials. The Visa ones are always great . But the P&G mom ones have made me cry a few times.
