..to ask you to cheer on Kathleen Hersey in the womens' 200m butterfly. A grade school classmate of my daughter Maggie's, she is a nice girl and has spent many a night at our home in grade school. Her mother (a wonderful lady) died during the past year, so I'm hoping that Kathleen has a good showing in her honor.
...to wonder how they get those horses over there...
...to wonder how in the hell could anyone hit a pingpong ball traveling that fast...
just finished watching USA women's volleyball against south korea.
i know you boys love watching women's volleyball for "certain reasons", but if you are a female who's ever played volleyball during your school career its pretty cool watching an amazing team work like that (especially since volleyball isn't all over the place like basketball or football). just like a well wound clock...the points come so quickly, you really have to be on top of your game.
also, i just love it when they say hooker. HOOOKER OUT OF BOUNDS. HOOKER WITH THE KILL.
I love the Olympics! Winter, summer - I love them both. I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing my 4 yo run around yelling "AMERICA" at the top of his lungs. He was 6 wks old last summer Olympics. I do wish there wasn't a 5 hr difference. I hate getting spoiled before an event airs here.
anyone know a link where I can watch basketball USA vs France??
I just PM'd you a link. When the game starts you should be able to watch it there (unless it's blocked in South Korea for some reason).
Also, this thread is confirming something I've been saying since I was in high school. Women care way more about the Olympics than men do, and I have no idea why.
Game starts in an hour right? And flanzo maybe this is one of the few times women's sports get equal attention (there also seems to be a love for male swimmers)

My paper says the start time is 9:30, but is that for pre-game coverage? USA should mop France, but I'm definitely watching. I also almost just wrote the "NBA should mop France."
And you're probably right about the female sports coverage, probably should have thought of that.
You are totally right about the female coverage. For me at least. I grew up a competitive swimmer. You get absolutely no recognition except for olympic season.
Unless you're a swimmer from Australia. They are like rock stars there.
Fun fact...This is the first olympics in which every participating country has a female athlete. Fun fact...The US team has more female athletes than male athletes for the first time ever.
On another note. Male swimmer bodies are pretty close to perfection.
^^^ Also grew up competitively swimming, if it wasn't for the Olympics and the duel in the pool swimming would probably never be broadcasted on tv. A little ridiculous considering we are continuously a powerhouse.
On a less spiteful note I love the Olympics. Pure athletics on a global scale. It's the best

to add to the above post,
I love the Olympics. Archery was so intense, almost had it! Also did anyone see the independent athletes during the opening ceremony? They were having the best time, it was hilarious.

LOVED the independent athletes! Their name says it all. Don't need no stinkin' national federation.
I totally want to party with that group. I can so see Jess bringing them with him to Brunch next year.
The opening ceremonies were kind of, umm, "trippy". But that's not unusual for an Olympics.
Gotta admit that Macca's performance of "Hey Jude" had me just a wee bit choked up.
Also, the Queen Mum's bit with Daniel Craig was a fairly clever creative turn. Myself, though, I was hoping she would come riding down from the roof of the stadium atop Algie the Inflatable Pig, during the "Dark Side of the Moon" segment. (A la Slim Pickens, at the end of "Dr. Strangelove".)
They could've brought the smokestacks back out of the ground for that shiz.

When I was on the high school swim team they grouped diving in with us. So at meets there would be a diving competition. Let me tell you nothing in the world sounds like a head hitting the diving board. Thinking about it still makes me cringe. ugh!
