(Nashville, Tenn.) June 29, 2012 - Americana heavyweights, innovators, icons and up and comers will showcase in Nashville venues during the 13th annual Americana Music Festival & Conference, presented by Nissan, September 12 through September 15. Highlights in this first round of announcements include: Billy Joe Shaver, Punch Brothers, Brandi Carlile, Richard Thompson, Sara Watkins, The Deep Dark Woods, Shovels & Rope, John Hiatt, Eilen Jewell, Rodney Crowell, honeyhoney, and John Fullbright. (For a list of artists confirmed as of today see below). Additional artists and surprising new events for the festival will be announced in the near future.
Additionally, the conference will kickoff at the Sheraton Nashville Downtown Hotel on Wednesday September 12 with a series of panels and workshops and the Keynote Interview with Bonnie Raitt. The conference is designed to educate, discuss, advance and inspire everyone interested in the genre from industry professionals to artists to newcomers.
Live music will take center stage opening night with the 11th Annual Americana Honors and Awards ceremony at the historic Ryman Auditorium. This year’s program, described by Paste Magazine as “the best awards show in the world,” will honor Bonnie Raitt, Booker T. Jones, Richard Thompson and many more.
Each evening from September 12-15, the Americana Music Association produces the festival portion of the event, which brings more than 100 acts to clubs throughout Music City. The festival is open to conference registrants, who get priority admission, and to the general public. Last year more than 12,000 fans enjoyed the festival’s musical events.
I love Americanafest. $50 for 4 days worth of shows, usually one "once in a lifetime" collaboration/tribute show per year (last year it was Muscle Shoals music, year before it was Exile on Main St.) and a pretty decent chance of unbooked big name artists sitting in on sets (they're all already in town for the awards show). This will be my third year to go and the atmosphere is great. The fanbase is friendly and very passionate about the genre. Most of the musicians are major fans of the genre and show up for the performances as well.
This year's lineup looks excellent. Quite a few Bonnaroo vets on there and a chance to see some legends in some pretty small venues. Jill Andrews, Richard Thompson, and Sara Watkins alone are worth the price for me.

Wow, 50 bucks and I would already see at least 5 of the bands listed. I'm sure I'd enjoy many of the unknown (to me) as well. This looks like a good mid Sept fest.
RICHARD THOMPSON!!! That's worth fifty bucks right there!
The undercard is stellar: The Wood Brothers! The BoDeans! Buddy Miller, Two Gallants, Punch Brothers, Holy Ghost Tent Revival (suuuuuch a fun band to see!), and Jimbo Mathus (formerly of Squirrel Nut Zippers) - HOT DAMN, this one helluva lineup!!!
Hoping maybe Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale will do a show together like they did last year. That was a great show. Great night overall. Secret Sisters>Keb Mo>Miller/Lauderdale>North Mississippi Allstars.
I'm holding out an unrealistic hope that Richard Thompson will play the Station Inn. It's WAY too small for him and I'm sure his show will be in the Cannery, but if anyone on that lineup just FITS into the Station Inn, it's Richard Thompson. Saw JD Souther there last year and it was amazing.
Also hoping one night in one venue will be a "girl's night." Sara Watkins, Jill Andrews, Lera Lynn, and Brandi Carlile in one venue would make me very happy.
They've added artists and released the schedule. New acts include a tribute to Levon Helm (their tribute shows are always excellent), a Music of Memphis theme night featuring a solo set from Luther Dickinson, Paul Thorn, and Lee Ann Womack performing with Buddy Miller.
