I'm actually serious. I don't know how you could champion Jamiroquoi without also being open to JT. Both of his albums are tremendous; "Cry Me A River" might be one of the best pop songs of the last 20 years.
Not sure if trolling, but Jamiroquoi is pure funk while JT has a more cheesy white boi hip hop vibe. different as night and day to me.
Nothing says "pure funk" like a goofy white kid in a furry oversized top hat who needs moving walkways to replicate any semblance of dance moves.
I actually really, really like Jamiroquoi, and I would have been super stoked to see them on the Coachella lineup, but there's really not the difference that you think. The only difference between the two is that JT sells lots of records, people have heard of him, and teenage girls love him.

Totally agree. I don't have an issue with JT in the least, but I don't hear the same things from him and Jamiroquai. I thought the comparison was just an awesome troll move.

Clearly they're not exactly the same, but they're both falsetto-voiced pop singers making dance tracks. Jamiroquoi may have more of a funk/electronic vibe whereas JT strays more towards hip-hop/electro, but I feel like anyone who is championing Jamiroquoi while dismissing JT is making the decision based on outward trappings like fame, popularity and fanbase rather than the actual quality of the music.

I'm appalled. You're the last person on here that I would expect to be so obtuse on this matter. I'm more interested in whether music makes me dance as opposed to watching some summers breezer who is very good at dancing while their "music" is completely drowned out by teenage girls shrieking near my ears. edit: I'm not dismissing him. I just don't get into it like I do Jamiroquai.

I'm not being obtuse at all.
Have you ever actually seen JT live? I haven't but I saw the concert special he did for HBO a few years back and thought it was phenomenal. He's a good singer, and the production of his songs is absolutely top-notch. If you took his voice out of the equation, and replaced him with Miguel, or the Weeknd, or Frank Ocean or whoever, music snobs everywhere would cream their f*cking pants. If his music doesn't make you dance then maybe you just don't like pop music, which means you're one of those obnoxious types who disregard an entire genre of music, which you're likely doing because you don't like being associated with that genre or its fans, rather than because of any complete dislike of the sound. The reason for this being that within any genre there is both good and bad - no one type of music produces nothing but gold, and each has its own sublte variations where there is surely something within that genre you appreciate.
And that's fine - Usher is also an artist who would likely have teenage girls screaming during his concerts. He's also one who, up until his most recent album, produced more dreck than JT ever has (solo, we're not talking the N*Sync days). So while you may think "Climax"-era Usher is a highlight, are you really clamoring for him to break into his classic early 2000's catalog? I'd wager not.

I'd take Yeah!, Confessions 2 (in particular) and Burn over anything I can think of in JTs catalogue. Again, not that I really dislike him, just doesn't do it for me.

I'd say JT is more likely than Bowie to take the third headliner slot.
What? Because some dude posted some random wordpress article on the coach forum? I mean, am I missing something here...?
Everyone's so desperate to name the headliner it's really gotten silly at this point. We'll get the lineup next week (without Bowie, Daft, the Stones, and yes...Timberlake) and it will make perfect sense. Although I would love to be proven wrong.
I'm out on this Timberlake deal though and I actually like the guy. As a person at least.

Juggs, you're searching for some divine meaning behind not liking Justin Timberlake but my indifference toward him is completely arbitrary. It happens.
I don't know that I'd argue this, though I'd say that R. Kelly is more straight up R&B whereas JT is more dance-pop. R. Kelly is phenomenal though, one of the best to do it.

No, I get yours completely. I know you're a fan of pop music in general, I'm not really questioning that. I'm more pushing the people who claim to like stuff like Jamiroquoi (or even those that don't) why they think they don't like JT.

I also think that R. Kelly would be much more appropriate than JT in a festival setting like Coachella or Roo.
I disagree only because I feel like a JT show would have a pretty cool stage show, and plenty of hyped-up dance tracks. I feel like R.Kelly would be lots of ballads, which could drag the tempo down.

I'd rather see/listen to JT over Usher or R Kelly. I haven't listen to any of their albums all the way through, but I like JT's singles much better. Sexy Back, Love Stoned, What Goes Around, and Cry Me A River all all fun songs that I liked several years ago.

So JT rages harder? R. Kelly might not be a headliner at Coachella, but JT surely would. So the ballads would be fine as long as he mixed it up some.

I feel like R. Kelly would have to headline wherever he played, right?

I've been waiting for years to hear "Brand New Colony", "New Better", "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight", and of course "Such Great Heights" on the polo fields.
Honestly that album inspired me go out and buy a midi board and start messing with electronic stuff as cheesy as it may sound.

I feel like you might be wrong on that. Like, I don't think that Coachella (or Bonnaroo, or any of the major music festivals) would book him, but he's a huge, huge force in music. While I don't think he WOULD headline, I think he's a big enough artist to do so. If that makes sense.
