He's the first EDM artist in the top ten at Bonnaroo for a reason.
This quote makes me irrationally angry.
Let me clarify and say that it's not because he deserves it, it's because EDM is bigger than it has ever been and Skrillex is riding the top of that wave.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
I think this really sums up a lot of people's complaints about Skrillex.
So there shouldn't be any music in existence that is pure party music meant to get you to dance and be completely self-indulgent?
This.
People like Skrillex and will go for the same reasons they go to Pretty Lights, Bassnectar, Deadmau5, and Girl Talk. To have fucking fun.
Is Skrillex trashy and have little depth? Obviously. Will it be a fucking raging party? Of course. And the second answer outweighs the first, to me. It's not bad trashy like the Black Eyed Peas.
I'm going to defend Skrillex here. Sure his music has mainstream appeal, and sure his music is a little repetitive sounding...but he's got an ear for catchy tunes. Half of me wants to join in with the Skrillex-hating chorus because his music is pretty shallow and mindless...but in that genre, shallow and mindless music is forgivable.
I don't go to an EDM show to appreciate the depth and soul of the music...I go to rage my balls off. Sure there are the Deadmau5es of the world who will criticize me for that, but when i've spent all day soaking in the great compositions from bands that know how to craft a beautiful song with deep meaning and intricate artistry, I want to reward myself by just getting crazy and having some mindless fun...which is all that Skrillex is, and all he's meant to be.
If you can't have fun at a Skrillex show, I truly feel sorry for you. I will be in that mess of a crowd raging til 4am
Bolded for lulz. My favorite part was using Deadmau5 as a paragon of intelligent electronic music.

Skrillex sucks. I have a pretty open minded approach and I'm even surprised to see so many Deadmau5 haters on here (although I'll admit he really went downhill after random album title and strobe) - but seriously, Skrillex?!? I'm appalled that so many people consider his music to be good. Just because you like EDM doesn't mean you need to back up Skrillex. His music is utter garbage. I wouldn't know how to characterize it aside from calling it "noise."

I didn't use Deadmau5 as a reference to "intelligent EDM", I was using it with regards to his bitching about the "scene". When he complained because Madonna got on stage at Ultra and made a reference to molly and it really ruined his day...because evidently molly has tarnished the name of electronic music.
Well guess what dude...EDM wouldn't even exist without that druug, and druugs are part of the music scene, and they always have been and always will.

My favorite part is that it's apparently a mind-numbing task to listen to beautiful songs with deep meaning and intricate artistry, a task that can only be relieved by listening to god-awful mindless EDM
After watching this new squarepusher video I'd definitely much rather have him than Skrillex at this point.
Not trying to be negative...but can some please explain to me why this is "better" or "worse" than Skrillex? To me this is a very similar type of music except without the "sick dropz."

Right...I need to be relieved from all of that mind-numbing normal music. Or maybe its just nice to have a change of pace.

Do you think any of the EDM at Bonnaroo is good or do you just hate Skrillex?

Flying Lotus is probably my all-time favorite electronic music producer, and my most anticipated show at Bonnaroo. Love SBTRKT too.
And Phi, agreed. I have never done Molly and some of my favorite music is electronic

Now THIS comment enrages me.
Do you think it was just coincidence that the rise of electronic music and the rise of a certain substance happened to occur together? I was overly broad in saying that EDM "wouldn't exist" without it...obviously EDM would have arisen regardless, but not in the same manner and style that it did.
I'm just saying the scene is heavily influenced by the substance...not that you can't appreciate it without it. I know many people that don't partake but love going to EDM shows...but to act like molly is some tarnish on EDM's reputation when it essentially birthed EDM is just frustrating to me.

Lol the rise of EDM has nothing to do with the molly and everything to do with the crossover from EDM into pop music and the massive exposure EDM gains from it.
