They do sell popcorn and (I think) candy outside of the venue now. Don't know if I'll make it or not but I usually tend to run towards shade and AC if there isn't a band playing so it wouldn't shock me!

Pondo, are you heading elsewhere or staying on the rail through Flogging>Puscifer? I'll probably be making that commitment for about 5 hours of awesome music if you want to hang out.
Anyone else gonna kick off the fest Thursday with the Band in DC documentary?? Do they provide popcorn in the Cinema tent or should I bring my own corn?
See you in the Cinema Tent, sir!! We can all bring some corn.

Guys I am indeed planning on making the rail commitment for bad brains-->flogging molly-->pucisfer. I was planning on showing up like halfway through pelican then start my inching. So very very stoked!!!

I will definitely be there for Pelican and Bad Brains. If my leg can hold out, I may be there all day. I plan on getting there at around 10:30 or 11. So if you see me, yell Pondo or come over and introduce yourself.

Plan made! Whatever time I can drag myself to Centeroo after I regain consciousness from Friday night, I'll be making a bee-line to That Tent. Hope to see you all there!
I made it to the front for this show. I will say it was a fun show and that the pit kicked my butt. When I came out of the pit my shirt and shorts were covered in sweat! Thanks god for the reggae songs...that gave us a little break from the intense moshing and body surfers

Two minutes before Bad Brains came on, I was in front of the soundboard leaning my back against the rail.... I had to pee really bad, I was a little dizzy, my feet hurt, and I was thinking "god just let me make it, I haven't even started today and I'm ready to throw in the towel."
About two seconds AFTER Bad Brains began playing... The music instantly woke up the crowd and the party animals emerged. INSTANTLY all my woes were gone, I was re-energized and ready to go. It's been probably over a year since I've been in a good most pit, and I knew right away that this crowd was the right crowd to get down with.
I made my way to front effortlessly and my adrenaline was COMPLETELY unleashed as I raged and moshed and danced the day away. Totally woke me up and I was running on full throttle all Saturday!! Did the same for Flogging Molly, which to me was one of the best same-tent-consecutive-sets I've ever seen at Roo.

Absolutely. Very kind and understanding of the band to toss in a slow, echoey reggae piece to let the crowd chill, before the next mosh thrashing. Later, recounting the day with camp members, most were a little jealous they missed out on the mayhem.

That show was absolutely incredible. HR gets railed on in some circles for being such a flake, but he's truly one-of-a-kind. The Leon Russell-meets-Mr. Rogers personage into which he's evolved is kind of hysterical.
I don't know... you guys all need to watch the documentary to get the full scope of what's gone on with the band. It's frustrating to life-long fans like me and more-so to his band-mates that he just can't sing the non-reggae material. I don't care that he's dressed like Rick James meets Dolly Parton in a bullet-proof vest with a pretend guitar... I just want more than 10% effort. The man is obviously schizophrenic due to a probable crack problem. They trot him out there and have to turn is mic down between songs when his banter gets too weird. It was still cool to see them as they're one of the greatest American bands of all-time, but for me, it was a bit sad at the same time.
It looked like HR was enjoying himself and appreciated the enthusiastic crowd. His stage presence certainly is characterized by inappropriate affect, but I thinks he's making all the effort he can muster. For all we know he was giving 110%.
I had a great time and the set was one of my highlights. The crowd was great and the band sounded great.
HR, on the other hand, not so much. After decades of waiting to hear them play with him it was a let down. (Still, he was better than Chuck Mosley!) I saw Band in DC and get why his mic was turned down so low and what he's done to the band over the years, though I knew a lot of it already.
On a related note, I was totally blown away by the security crew working during Bad Brains and Flogging Molly. They were professional and helpful and they really seemed to be having a great time. The guy working the corner near the right side of the stage who I think was in charge, at least of that section, was especially impressive. Really set the tone for the rest of the crew.

I think the rest of the band have sort of embraced who he is these days. I've met them before and they're all ridiculously nice guys. I think they realize that they'll never be the same face-mashing punks of the '80s, so they're sort of embracing who they all are - including HR - and rolling with it. He's a chaotic figure for sure, but harnessed the right way, his current state of lunacy opens an entirely new dimension up for them. I mean c'mon, he said some hilarious shit when his mic was up. That line about courtesy being contagious after "Sailin' On" melted from pure hardcore into hypnotic dub was gold, Jerry.

Such a fun show, the crowd was great. About HR, I wasn't surprised that he didn't move much and I'm not complaining, Dr. Know and the rest of the band played just as hard and fast as they used to and when it comes down to it, that's really all that matters. If anything, I think his spaced-out lunatic banter between songs added to the madness. I'm just happy to say that I've seen Bad Brains live, thought I would never have that opportunity. Thanks Bonnaroo!
