I really hope this happens. Already put in for vacation time.
Whoa whoa, an Oak Mountain date? Please let this be true. That is about 3 minutes from my house and I have been waiting a long time for them to come back.
I don't have any real source on the rumor, but its really picking up steam around the internet. I'm in the cautiously optimistic but believe it when I see it mode. I think the Phish organization has learned from the past few years that they can really sell tickets in the South, so why not come a little further south then they usually do?
The Atlanta rumor is for Lakewood. I know most people greatly prefer Alpharetta, and it is a better venue, but Lakewood was the first place I saw Phish, back in 2000. I was 18 years old and I can't think of a live music event that has affected my life more. I would be beyond thrilled to see Phish on that hallowed ground again.

I have seen several shows at Lakewood but give me VZW Encore any day of the week. At least if I can't get a cab in Atlanta, I would like to be somewhere I won't get mugged.
i dont know if its avail. everywhere , but watkins glen last summer was the best phish of my life.
definitely my personal peak live music experience. day 3 is the best show I've seen out of 25 phish shows. lost my mind during the 1st set. was trying to contact my friends to find them Fter the 1st set but my phone screen was just a swirl of colors. the mound and the Reba......wow.

Selfishly I'd be hoping for Lakewood since I live in Downtown, but I've not yet been to the Alpharetta venue. I'd imagine they'd have no problem filling Phillip's arena (or Mcdonalds Magnavox arena or whatever it's being called this year), or even the GA Dome for that matter either.

for a regular show I think the Philips is too big. for a new years run it might be a better fit.
alpharetta is a good venue, just smallish. and the sound is significantly better in the center then off to the sides. hate it when that happens.

The trend of this thread is suggesting that they will close out Bonnaroo Sunday, but there is some possibility of them playing on Saturday. I've never seen them and I'm super exited about it, but shit fucker a sunday only show sounds like the worst. They close and all the music stops...Next morning you pack up your stuff and leave.
I want to see phish in the proper set and setting so to speak. But the last thing on earth I'd want to do after getting my sets and settings on the night before is pack up my crap and start driving back to Normalland.
I don't know exactly what I'm getting at with this post except that if they only play Sunday....well I think that would suck. For me anyway.

RHCP is going to be Saturday night. That seems so quacked up, but oh well.
If Phish is Sunday in all honesty I'd rather RHCP play Saturday. It'll give me a chance to recharge my batteries after what I hope will be Radiohead playing Friday.
Their whole MSG run was gold. I liked 12.29 the best, but 12.31 is nothing to scoff at.
Different strokes I guess, but that run produced some of the most uninspired and sloppy playing out of the band (most notably Trey) all year.
agreed. you never know when the show will be good or bad. not even MSG on NYE guarantees a scorcher, apparently. same as it ever was, Phish comes to play when they come to play.
but that is part of what makes live Phish so exciting. who the hell knows how the bonnaroo set will play out? will it be exciting like Friday bonnaroo 09, or will it be ho-hum like their ACL set? either way it will be a blast, but I'm hoping for some awesomeness come Sunday night.

The best part about Phish is when their shows are "ho-hum," they are "ho-hum, for a Phish show." They are still pretty excellent shows.

hell yeah to that. the only Phish show I've ever seen that was a downright terrible time was Coventry. I had a lot of other personal issues going on during that time however. but the awful setting and music didn't help any.

i actually had a great time at coventry, though the music the second day was a bit of a trainwreck (and i think thats probably putting it nicely)

I hope they bring the heat, especially since they're only playing one show this time around.
Springsteen in 2009: any thoughts on special guests for this year?

I am willing to bet money it will be Brian Wilson.
