So your standards land you somewhere between Fox and FX/Spike.
Still keeping it personal huh? I have low standards because I disagree with you? Come on, man. Also, why did you ignore everything else I said?
Excuse me for not reading that information on the original link you provided. On this link (the one you originally posted), it just says that they pulled the episodes last week.
BUT GUESS WHAT??!?!?! They are airing those episodes this Sunday. So basically you're saying that something that's so offensive it needs to be pulled from airing is okay to air 7 days later.....because then it won't offend people. Also, the offending episode is a religious thing....has nothing to do with guns or the massacre.
It only takes 7 days for something offensive to lose it's power. Gotcha.
This stuff is a little insulting. Just because some of us don't agree with you doesn't make us insensitive to this topic.
The "you" in question is Colbert/Comedy Central, about whom I thought we were debating in the first place.
I think part of the problem is you think Colbert is a strictly comedic show. It's not, he uses comedy to get points across about politics, it's not a simple skit comedy show. They talk about genuinely important issues, and have had PRESIDENTS on the show in the past. I think you should give that program its due regardless of the network it's on.

I didn't take it that way but I can see how I confused it, sorry. I see you respond to my post and say "you" then I'm going to assume we are talking about me....because I was defending Comedy Central as airing the rerun.

All I'm saying is that MacFarlane and Ferguson, two guys who have made a living from making fun of everything from Jesus to 9/11, felt compelled to censor themselves when Colbert did not, and I said that I found that surprising. It seems to me that you're the one trying to make it personal, insisting that I draw some sort of line on where respect goes too far.

I've been watching Colbert literally since his very first episode and, as I said, seen it in person many times, so I think I've given the show its due. Ferguson has had his share of accolades and marquee guests, too - I highly suggest watching his Peabody-winning interview with Archbishop Desmond Tutu if you haven't seen it - and if you don't think Family Guy makes points on important issues, you haven't been paying attention.
HBO postponed shows. NBC postponed shows. Showtime gave extraordinary warnings about its primetime lineup. And Big Weinstein himself pulled the plug on a blockbuster premiere. (As someone who has been personally yelled at by that man, I can tell you that not much makes him flinch.)
Family Guy? Yes, they do a wonderful job of having intelligent discussions about Peter's flatulence. They mention certain subjects, but they do not devote long discussion into any specific point. A 10 second Peter daydream is not sufficient to cover the gun control issues in this country. Maybe you're thinking of South Park? They dedicate entire episodes to satire, not 5 seconds.
Colbert's show is about politics, how you refuse to group it as such is just confusing. Colbert routinely uses humor to get his points across, but when he uses humor the reason isn't just so he can give you the giggles, it's to make a statement about politics or society or something grander than the audience's humor bone.
But sure, simplify it to the point it's just "Family Guy makes fun of stuff, so does Colbert, they're the same type of show!"
All I'm saying is that MacFarlane and Ferguson, two guys who have made a living from making fun of everything from Jesus to 9/11, felt compelled to censor themselves when Colbert did not, and I said that I found that surprising.
And all I'm saying is that Colbert said those things on a previous show that happened before the tragedy (correct me if i'm wrong...I was going off your info about it being a rerun). It's not the same thing at all as Ferguson editing out something he did the night before it was supposed to air IMO.
As for McFarlane and Family Guy.....they are airing it this weekend. It couldn't have been that offensive if it only took 7 days to be okay to air. Part of me feels like they knew most people would be watching news stories as opposed to Family Guy so they delayed it a week. Of course I have no way to prove that at all.
It seems to me that you're the one trying to make it personal, insisting that I draw some sort of line on where respect goes too far.
The first thing that rubbed me the wrong way was when you brought up Flanzo maybe feeling differently if it was his child that was part of the massacre. I know it was a hypothetical but it just felt like an easy way to try and win the argument. Obviously ANYONE who lost a child would likely be in an extremely sensitive/easily offend-able state. Then I saw "you" and "your standards" and felt like you were just responding to the ones who disagreed with you because they were in direct responses to our posts. So I felt like you were coming at us and trying to make us seem like assholes because we felt Colbert's rerun wasn't offensive and should have been edited.

You're comparing cable networks and movie studios withdrawing premiere events for violent TV shows and movies with a political commentator making a satirical monologue about gun control? How is this rational?
And Showtime showed Homeland and Dexter on Sunday. I guess they should feel shame, right?
So is Colbert's. The only two significant differences in the actual formats of their shows is that Ferguson's show is twice as long and Colbert's monologue is seated.

Again, the entire postponed episode was a satire on the birth of Jesus. They've also dedicated entire episodes to everything from politics to Y2K. Yes, there are fart jokes, and Colbert wore Hobbit feet to interview Peter Jackson.

Again, please see Craig Ferguson's laundry list of using humor to make a statement. It's strange that you seem bent on not comparing two guys who do almost exactly the same thing, just on generally different topics.
HEY! THIS IS RANDOM THOUGHTS. NOT COHERENT DEBATE. SO...
Opossums sure can be unruly when they feel threatened.
About 2 or 3 weeks ago I was walking to my.....corn salesman, when I saw this little furry thing next to a dimly lit brick wall. Thinking it was a stray cat/dog, I was going to toss it some food (I was bringing turkey up to the cornman's house after Thanksgiving). When I got about a foot away from it, it hissed, leapt at my face (I was crouched, so this was like 1.5 feet off the ground) and did a flying spinning death kick thing before I realized "OMGTHISISNOTADOG!"
It was a possum. I live in the Bronx. The closest wildlife is fenced in at the Bronx Zoo. I really hope someone isn't dropping possum off at random spots in the city and letting them run wild.

They really are mean sons-of-bitches. My encounters with them in our yard almost always end with me screaming like a little girl.

Exactly, and that is probably why NBC, Fox, CBS, HBO, Showtime, TLC, and Harvey Weinstein all changed their lineups instead of just saying "oh, it's fine since it was previously recorded."
Again, please see Craig Ferguson's laundry list of using humor to make a statement. It's strange that you seem bent on not comparing two guys who do almost exactly the same thing, just on generally different topics.
Colbert = politics
Ferguson = anything he wants
Yes, they're different, which is why I'm saying they're different. A guy who always talks about politics is not the same as a guy who sometimes talks about politics as part of a much wider-ranging array of topics.

Do you think Late Night hosts hate some of the guests that they have on just for publicity's sake? I feel like the nature of their job leads to them being pretty fake in most interviews. Some are worse than others. (Looking at you Fallon)

They definitely do.
Fallon is actually good IMO because he at least can seem a bit interested and is quick. Leno and Letterman definitely let you know when they don't care.
There are times when I can tell Conan O'Brien is working extra hard to make a guest spot work.
Recently Jon Stewart said a lot of guests he's had on weren't that great but he specifically mentioned Hugh Grant as being terrible and that he's never being invited back.

Craig Ferguson has a quacking political cartoon on his arm! Yeah, no political satire there...
Steve-O has a happy face tattoo'd on his back, I think we'd all agree the guy hasn't always been a happy person (you know, the whole "almost killed himself" thing and all...)
I have an Irish tattoo on my shoulder, doesn't mean I'm insane about Irish heritage and culture and it's all I talk about.
