*Why in the hell does everyone keep mentioning Phish? Is the festival required to rotate in Phish, Widespread, or whatever other band styles themselves as a jam band every year?
One of the most reliable patterns of Bonnaroo is that they have a "jam" headliner on Sunday. 06 - Phil, 07 - Widespread, 08 - Widespread, 09 - Phish, 10 - DMB, 11 - Widespread. I would place money on Furthur being next year.
1. Please list for me the bands that presently qualify as "jam bands"? 2. What do you mean by "OutKast is too low? Please tell me you aren't stating that T.I. is a bigger draw than OutKast? Please prety please tell me that isn't what you believe.
I mean that Outkast is billed too low on that list - if Bonnaroo got Outkast, I have to believe they'd be no lower than 3rd on the list of acts, because they'd be a huge get. I think they'd be higher than Depeche Mode, and maybe higher than Daft Punk.
And I'm not going to list all the acts that qualify as a jamband, because it's a lengthy/ridiculous discussion that we've had to death around here, but as others have mentioned one constant about Bonnaroo has been that Sunday night has been headlined by a band that is more "jam" friendly - variations of Phil Lesh/the Dead, Widespread Panic, Phish, Dave Matthews, etc. I don't see that changing.
Y'all have probably already picked up on this, but jam bands just aren't my thing. The only three "according to hoyle" jam bands that I can think of are Widespread, Phish, and String Cheese....and I like zero of those bands.
I agree that DMB can jam...but so can fleetwood mac. And so can Tom Petty with somebody else on stage to jam with him. And so can John Mayer with somebody else out there to jam with him.
So I guess I think it's just silly for 'roo to feel obligated to have one of widespread, phish, or string cheese play every year. I would rather them tweak that up a little bit and just go with a jam session where they throw a bunch of talented musicians on stage, let them do their thing, and see how it turns out.

And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts
We're pretty much looking at Phish/Trey, Furthur/Dead, DMB/Dave & Friends, Widespread or Neil & Crazy Horse for the "jam slot". And there is always a jam slot because it's the backbone of Bonnaroo, to some extent. I believe they even said they still try to keep the jam presence alive in an interview recently because it's such a big part of their attendance. You won't see Coachella or Lollapalooza having Widespread, SCI, MMJ, Gregg Allman, Buffalo Springfield, Bela Fleck, Warren Haynes, Primus, Bruce Hornsby, Dr. John & Meters, Galactic, etc. all play.
Jack Johnson had it awhile ago but WSP replaced him after Allmans dropped out, so I guess he's a possibility. MMJ could probably take it in 2-3 years when they come back. Dispatch is probably too small, but some have debated them. SCI is too small.
We've gone through this argument every year over whether or not there is a "jam" headliner and who qualifies and I'm not sure why there's still an argument going on. It's pretty reliable at this point that we'll have some version of Phish/Dave/Dead/Neil/WSP/JJ as a headliner, given that it's been like that since post-2005 era of Bonnaroo.
I can't see Bonnaroo bringing back Mumford and Sons for a 3rd straight year. Also, as nice as Outkast would be....Big Boi did all the hits during his set this year.
DMB isn't taking next year off (at least they haven't announced anything). Dave said they would take this year off but the rest of the band wanted to tour so they compromised with these 4 mini festival dates.
I've heard alot about Radiohead and Daft Punk being "near confirmed".... is that even possible? and if it is near confirmed can someone please explain how so i don't get false hopes? Radiohead is my all time fav band

I doubt Superfly has gone much beyond speculating who they would like for next year, let alone talking to bands. Anything you hear for the next couple months will likely be rumors, especially if it involves either of those bands or McCartney or U2 or the Stones or Waters.

The thing is they pre-HL'd for Bruce two years ago. If their new album that comes out later this year does well and they gain more popularity I could maybe see it. Though at this point they don't have the mainstream appeal of a KoL or even Arcade Fire.
