Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
To the underlined. I've heard this quite a bit, but I don't get it. I've never met a DMB fan anywhere remotely like that. I've never met a DMB fan that I've had a conversation with that's even been in a frat, and for the record Natty and shotgunning (of any beer) is gross.
I'm literally sitting next to one right now. My very best friend is a HUGE Dave fan, and a HUGE frat guy. In fact, him and all of his brothers have gone to see Dave before. And all the "bro's" that I went to highschool with loved Dave, and they're all in frats now. I mean, obviously DMB is a huge, mainstream band, and draws fans from all across the spectrum, but it seems like that is one demographic wherein lies an intense/vocal fanbase.
Friday: Soundgarden on the what stage, Gorillaz late night which stage Saturday: Prince Sunday: Furthur or Allman Bros to close it out
i dont think gorillaz could do Which, unless screens were added. I have never seen them live, but from what I understand the screens would most likely be needed for their live show.

I'm sure they'd play what, they would be a massive draw.

Good guess but I don't think we'll get any zlog until 2013.

Both Outkast and Daft Punk could easily headline unopposed, but I don't see Daft Punk doing that. Even if they were billed in the top 3 they would probably still take the Jay-Z spot. Outkast could go either way. That being said, an Outkast reunion seems unlikely until they've been apart for quite a while. Daft Punk will probably be there next time they tour. As for Gorillaz, they could probably headline, and easily do LN Which. Their screens are about the size of the Flaming Lips'. Those 3 in one year would be the best ever, btw.

Sorry to double post but I hate editing from my phone. I think it's important to note that it's possible for a band to be big enough to headline Coachella but not for roo because at Coachella they aren't unopposed. I think it's possible that Gorillaz fall into that category.
I'm positive Dave Matthews brought more dbags last year than Jay-Z.
Right, so the incredibly friendly people I stood with all day at the what stage to see dmb as opposed to the people who rushed past me after stevie wonder (someone even said "get the quack out of the way") and who left the most incredible amount of trash behind that I have ever seen at a festival was just a fluke.....
Just compare Jay-Z and Dave Matthews Lyrics man, one speaks of love and peace in a truly poetic way, the other talks about pimps, bitchez, the love of money and other immoral nonsense. You do the math.
Having worked Cleanvibes at multiple festivals, the most trash you'll ever see is at the jammier festivals. Blame the heads. Oh, and Jay-Z writes more compelling and honest lyrics than Dave Matthews ever could.
Second, people keep mentioning bands like the Foo Fighters, and Death Cab, etc., and those bands probably aren't big enough to headline Bonnaroo. Those bands can headline festivals like Sasquatch, Hangout, etc., which draw like 40K or so, but they aren't big enough for headliner status. I could see either one being a pre-headliner, or Which Stage closer, but not an unopposed, headlining spot.
Lady Gaga could play a special LN What, and it would be one of the best shows of the weekend.
Oh, and we will never see Radiohead or Daft Punk on the farm. Nor will we see the Stones or Led Zeppelin.
Gorillaz would headline What if they played. Too bad they're not touring. Outkast also remains unlikely, but hopefully sometime in the next few years we'll see them back together. If they're on the lineup, they will be the very first name.
Maybe something like Friday: Foo Fighters or Muse, maybe Kanye/Jay-Z or Coldplay Saturday: Prince or Paul McCartney, maybe into a Gaga or Deadmau5 LN HL Sunday: Phish, Furthur, or Dave
What surprises me here is that I can't find too many 'current' headliners. They've been increasingly dominant at festivals in the past couple years, but I can't really think of very many contemporary artists who could headline. Gaga, but she's more likely to LN What rather than play unopposed. Muse, I guess, but I feel like they're almost there by default. Jay-Z and Kanye would be huge, but I'm not sure we'll see Kanye on the farm. Coldplay, I guess. Arcade Fire, Black Keys, MMJ, and Kings of Leon will all have played the festival in the past couple years. We might even see something like in 2009 where there just aren't many 2000s acts at the top of the lineup.
I guess if I had to go with most likely, I'd be thinking Foos/Prince/Furthur. Maybe with a big latenight from Deadmau5 or somebody. I just can't really think of who else could headline What LN off the top of my head. Gaga could, but I don't think it's as likely. Maybe.

The Strokes were fifth on Lolla's lineup, on the secondary set of headliners. The Foo Fighters are number two, below Eminem but above Muse, Coldplay, and MMJ. I know both festivals are different, but I think Foo Fighters are big enough and mainstream enough to headline any festival in the US.
The reason I don't think Roo will ever book Daft Punk is that they've had the opportunity before but decided that the act cost more than it was worth. I don't expect that to change. Thom Yorke has said Radiohead isn't coming back ever either.
Oh, and I would die happy if we could get Arctic Monkeys to close the Which out one day. Or a special late night. This is a potential headliner in a few years.
I actually think Foo Fighters probably could work as a Friday night headliner at Bonnaroo - I was just making the point that just because a band has headlined one fest, doesn't mean they could headline them all. Though for what it's worth, Bonnaroo is about 4x the size of Hangout, so I'd be shocked to see them copy a headliner, a year later. Also, Lollapalooza tends to have the most "mainstream" headliners out of any of the Big Three U.S. festivals, so take that with a grain of salt. But I digress.
Two questions: where did you hear that AC/Superfly turned down a Daft Punk booking, and where did you hear that Thom Yorke said they'd never be back to Bonnaroo?
True that what works for one festival as a headliner might not work for another. Foo Fighters are a natural pick for Lolla, whose headliner picks tend to lean on 90s alt-rock acts (Soundgarden, Tool, Green Day, Jane's Addiction have all headlined in the past three years) that wouldn't necessarily function as Bonnaroo headliners. Lollapalooza is a bit more mainstream, but Bonnaroo is more varied in its lineups overall - it's a bit harder to define what a typical Bonnaroo headliner is. If anything, Lollapalooza tends towards alternative rock and Bonnaroo tends towards jam, but both festivals have loosened in that regard over the past few years.
Hangout is much smaller than something like Bonnaroo, but they're also pretty new, and though I've never been, I think this festival aspires to grow some over the next few years. They sure have a hell of a lineup for a fest of that size - Widespread, Foos, Paul Simon, MMJ, Black Keys, Flaming Lips lead the list, and they've got a good number of our big dance acts (Bassnectar, Girl Talk, Pretty Lights) as well as plenty of other great acts. I'd be tempted to take their lineup over Lolla's this year.
As for your questions, I might be totally wrong about one or both. Been a long time since I read either, but both facts are sort of stored in the back of my brain. I remember reading an interview where Yorke said how much he loved playing Bonnaroo but hated the environmental cost of everybody driving to the festival and waiting in line to get in, and saying that he didn't think they'd do it again. I do know that he doesn't really like touring anymore, partially because of the effect it has on the environment and partially because he's (I suspect) just being a bitch. I do remember reading the interview, but a quick google of 'thom yorke bonnaroo environment' just gives me too many results.
The other one I either read somewhere online or it's just hearsay from the boards. I don't remember. On second thought, that one I might take with a grain of salt, even though it makes sense to me (Bonnaroo has never seemed focused enough on electronica acts to hire one as a headliner for nearly seven figures). I still don't expect Daft Punk to play Bonnaroo.

Good point about T.I., I thought about that after the fact. Not sure when he's s'posed to get sprung.
My second cousin, he's dating this girl who has a hairstylist that is best friends with a woman who's son just started rooming with an intern who overheard two people at his office saying Lady Gaga was booked to do an 8 hour set with the Melvins at next years Roo.

Llama broke up years ago. and outcast is to low.
Im thinking Daft Punk, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and Outcast
i am thinking at least one of these: Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Muse
How high would Dispatch be on the line-up? I know they are going on a large tour soon, but I am unfamiliar to the draw they would have. I am thinking possibly third line..

Last I heard, Llama was rumored to be getting back together. I have no idea how accurate that is anymore. Call it a wild card.

Mumford and Florence + The Machine should both be touring in 2012 as both will be in the studio this year. Each of them earned bigger stages. I can see both on an early-evening What slot as long as Bonnaroo doesn't quack up again.

I am thinking they would be high. Some argue on here they aren't big enough, but their last tour was in arenas and mid-size amphitheaters and sold out multiple nights. Not to mention that their following is hippies and the college student crowd, which is what makes up Bonnaroo. I'd say they'd close Which or get a pre-headline headline slot (MMJ or Black Keys this year).
As for Mumford, I doubt they'll be back next year. 3 years in a row is overkill for Mumford.

OutKast Fleetwood Mac Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Alicia Keys A reunited Nickel Creek (to fill the token "jam band" slot)*
*Why in the hell does everyone keep mentioning Phish? Is the festival required to rotate in Phish, Widespread, or whatever other band styles themselves as a jam band every year?

1. Please list for me the bands that presently qualify as "jam bands"? 2. What do you mean by "OutKast is too low? Please tell me you aren't stating that T.I. is a bigger draw than OutKast? Please prety please tell me that isn't what you believe.

I respect that you took a stab at this. And I like the addition of John Mayer. Has he ever played Bonnaroo?
Also, what about The Fray?
And I loved where somebody mentioned Gorillaz. Good call.
Here are some others I'll toss out for non-headlining spots: Passion Pit; La Roux; Dragonette; Cut Copy; O.A.R., Spoon; Cee Lo Green; Airborne Toxic Event; B.o.B., Lupe Fiasco, Eric Church, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Killers, Death Cab for Cutie; John Frusciante; Jack Johnson; Pete Yorn. Lotus; Caribou; Eels; New Pornographers.
