I've seen Van Halen many times with Dave and with Sammy. I love Sammy but the stuff he did with VH was lame, the time I saw VH with Sammy was very underwelming. I loved VH with Dave that was pure energy and excitement but I think those days are long gone. I'd rather have Chickenfoot.
I saw Van Halen (with Wolfgang and Roth) on their "reunion" tour 2 years ago. While Eddie still made love to his guitar and displayed his legend, Roth IMO was very underwhelming...
02/08 Tool 02/11 Jeff Mangum 02/17 of Montreal 02/29 Blind Pilot 03/31 The Naked & The Famous 05/14 M83 and I Break Horses 05/19 Flaming Lips, Young the Giant, Dawes and AWOLNATION 06/07 Bonnaroo 2012!!! 06/13 Roger Waters 07/28 Toadies
van halen just announced their tour. its pretty packed with relatively short breaks but a break from june 5th to june 12th. i dont think they will play roo though cause they go from san jose to anaheim, not that they couldnt go from california to tennessee to california with a weeks time but it doesnt make sense to do that
Yeah I would say their being on the west coast before and after Roo is a good sign that we won't get them
They're in Nashville 4/27, which I'm telling myself that rules them out because I think they'd be horrible live. Saw them with Hagar in (2005?) and I wasn't impressed.
2004 was the infamous total disaster tour. The stories in Sammy's book about that reunion are fascinating. Total train wreck.
I didn't see that one, thankfully, but they were a total blast with DLR in 2008!

I know some people have discounted Van Halen because a) they're playing in Nashville in April and b) their tour dates around Bonnaroo are in California.
Take a closer look at the schedule, though. There isn't a single break that long (7 days) anywhere else in the dates, and it's perfectly Bonnaroo-shaped. Love it or hate it, I think VH will be there.

Which might be why they put a break in there....to get some rest while in their home state before going out and finishing the tour.
Tour gap =/= Playing Roo
I'd say it's certainly possible but a gap doesn't make it more likely. The tour gaps mostly work as indicators for smaller artists, when Bonnaroo is located (geographically) inbetween the tour date before and tour date after.
Hey guys, I've been following the board for about 4 years but never had enough insight to create an account but I think I have something for everyone...
Before, there was talk about not knowing if Weir/Robinson/Greene or Pretty Lights could headline Wakarusa this year, but check out the lineup on their website.
There are links to all of the performing acts on the left side, and there are 2/3 of acts that are TBA...looks as if it's in actual headliner form? All of the prior years follow the same form, but Pretty Lights as #1 this year? well damn...
Pretty Lights is pretty big. I wouldnt be surprised if they were a waka headliner. No way they could headline Roo/Coach though. MAYBE in the Mau5 spot at Lolla in another year if he gets a big new stage.

I agree that the tour gap is not an automatic indicator, per se, but it is an interesting coincidence that it falls right in the time frame they would need available to play the festival.
The same thing happened with Phish's tour schedule in 2009...
I guess I just don't see Bonnaroo getting Van Halen. Too washed up, hair metal and trashy '80s rock for the typical 'Roo fan..
Whoa... now I agree that Van Halen isn't really a fit for Bonnaroo but come on... hair metal and trashy 80's rock? Hair metal and trashy 80's rock is just everyone else's failed attempt at being Van Halen.
1-1-12 Bassnectar NYE SHOW! 1-21-12 G. Love and Special Sauce 3-1-12 Radiohead 3-9-12 Experience Hendrix 5-15-12 Jack White @ The Ryman 6-7-12 Bonnaroo 6-19-12 Roger Waters presents "THE WALL" 7-7-12 Ringo Starr's 72nd Birthday Party Extravaganza at the Ryman

And U2's tour schedule last year.
True, but they had consistently large gaps in their schedule throughout to accommodate the massive stage set-up they were hauling around. This is different...
^But it's basically the exact same thing as Phish in 2009. I respectfully disagree, sir, and we can leave it at that. We'll know in a few weeks anyway...
Hey guys, I've been following this board since last roo. Really appreciate the different aspects. I really think the Raconteurs will play next year. Anyone else thunk the same?

What makes you think that?
EDIT: Where are my manners? Welcome to the boards.

I just think they have too much momentum behind them to stop playing, and if they play anywhere this year, I can't imagine they wouldn't play at the farm. And thanks for the welcomes.
