I would take Gwar over NoFX any day of the week, fat mike is such a piece of s hit of a person. Bonnaroo just lost tons of respect from me for booking them. No other act has really ever made me mad that they booked. Does bonnaroo have any integrity left?
I dont really understand how them booking NOFX shows a "lack of integrity?" It's not like they're a huge band outside of the punk rock circles. They're an extremely DIY band who has actually kept those ethics throughout their entire career. Fat Mike isn't as big of an jerkstore as he makes himself out to be, that persona is no more serious than Odd Future's.

Yes! This act alone makes up for the otherwise underwhelming "for me" artist additions. It's also the one more act I needed to be really pumped about this year's Roo.
I saw them in 2006 when they were playing The Decline in its entirety. That show was great. Can't wait to see how they troll the crowd!
I just want to reiterate what a few people have already said; the "Piss In A Bottle and Pass It Around" story is most definitely a hoax. They have addressed this in several interviews since it happened, and much like another poster mentioned, the jerkstore attitude of Fat Mike is mostly just a stage persona. There is no question they have some disdain for hippies, but they've mellowed quite a bit in their older days, and if (when) they bring this up at Roo, it will be in a humourous way. Also, anyone questioning their artisic abilities MUST check out "The Decline". It is their magnum opus, and in my humble opinion, one of the best written punk rock songs of all time....... and this is coming from a guy whose favourite bands include My Morning Jacket and The Grateful Dead. Finally, I don't mean to sound like Grandpa Lebowski, but throwing anything at any band is absolutey uncalled for, and has no place at Bonnaroo. Just ask Lewis Black.....
HAHAHAHAH! i remember way back in like november i was saying nofx would play roo someday and people said no way! HAHAHAHAHA
In those peoples defense, this is definitely a way out of left field surprise add.
idk. there were a lot of nofx shirts around last year. i thought we'd get someone like bad religion or rancid first though.
and also. about throwing things at them. fat mike hates on hippies because of their superficial traits so lets not give him a reason to talk Leno about the "hippie fest" bonnaroo by throwing Leno at him and going totally against the concept of peace.
I'll have to catch a few songs just to hear the funny stupid shit that comes out of his mouth, plus some older songs would be nice to hear...like electricity,or bob. hell, they may even bust out the decline but I highly doubt they remember it.

i saw em play it in denver in may of 08. so they bring it out sometimes. my fingers are crossed
The whole thing about Fat Mike pissing into a liquor bottle backstage at SXSW last year and then pouring shots for fans.. it kind of put a bad taste in my mouth... no pun intended.
I'll check these guys out though. might be a fun show
That was fake. it was a joke.
Having said that i'm excited to see them for more than a 40 minute set. I've only seen them at warped and i gotta say warped really screws you on your money for the amount of time each band has. Streetlight had 20 minutes in 09. Pitiful.
But yeah for nofx. be ready for the circle pit guys it's happening.

I know they played the Decline at Stubb's during SXSW in 2008, they played all of Punk In drublic at the show I went to. I am all for the decline.
It would be awesome if they get alate night set, there are a few bands I would still pick over them, but they are high on my list.
Not gonna lie, I threw an empty beer can or two onstage during NOFX back in the day. They are pretty tolerant of it, but I have no plans to do that again especially after seeing Ben Weasel go off on it.
I have lost at least 3 karma points for starting this thread also.

The jerk attitude may be a stage persona, but I've seen written in a few different interviews from other artists' who met him that thought he was rude and out of line. Not entirely surprising.
"Last night they threw ice, tonight they're throwing lit cigarettes. That's not cool."
I heard they suck live.
As far as the excitement value and getting pumped for a show, I think NOFX just topped my list for this year. Look for this smiley guy right in the middle of said circle pit!!!!

A very large number of extremely talented musicians, from Miles Davis to 3/4 of The Beatles to Kanye West, were/are assholes.

I don't really care if the dude's an asshole or not, that's his prerogative. Just seemed to be a debate about whether it was actually him or just a "persona".

My bad. I'm sure he's probably a little bit of an asshole sometimes, who isn't? But he definitely exaggerates it on stage.

I've listened to them for years, since I was in about 8th grade or so, and finally got to see them in Knoxville a few months ago. Unfortunately, he couldn't sing (his throat was messed up and he joked about having a doctor's note) so they had the lead singers from the opening bands each do a few songs. One of them didn't even know the words and got booed really badly. In the end, I was a little disappointed that he didn't sing, but it's understandable. I was really hoping I'd get another chance to see them after that (I know the thought of Roo crossed my mind, and I may have mentioned it on here somewhere), and it's happened!
me and my buddies were thinking about starting the ol' circle pit, but then i thought wait... my goal at bonnaroo is not to sweat my ass off an dehydrate. circle pits definitely lead to the contrary in that instance so yeah no circle pit for me.
I'm pumped for this show. I don't even know much NOFX, but their alcohol-fueled, audience-degrading, piss-poor performances sound extremely entertaining.
As far as their material goes, what's best to start with? And what should I make sure to listen to before their show?
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
