Well I was already planning on seeing PL since its right after The Black Angels, but I just downloaded his 3 EPs from 2010, and I've gotten even more excited to see him.
On second thought, I feel kinda foolish on not seeing PL after Femi Kuti in 09.
Why the hell is Pretty Lights' real name in parenthesis in the subject line? Whose idea was that, because it's f*cking brilliant. We should have this rule for EVERY thread in here.
It made me think at first that it was just a DJ set and Adam Deitch wasn't performing too...
Pretty Lights is Derek Vincent Smith. He has been playing with Adam the last 1-2 years, but he's had other drummers before, and he still plays solo shows from time to time. Last time I saw him, there was no Adam.

same here. saw him in kansas city without adam, it was still amazing though. cant wait for friday night, bassnectar into PL is going to be awesome.
Just got an email from Pretty Lights detailing his summer festival circuit. I knew he was playing a lot, but damn he will be everywhere including Glastonbury, Lolla and ACL. Anyways, one little nugget from the email was this:
Derek and his team have been working hard for the last 6 months on taking the PL show to the next level and it's debuting at Bonnaroo
His light show on New Years Eve was great, so it'll be interesting to see what else they've come up with.

I also saw where he said he is debuting this new set up at Roo.
Unfortunately, it looks like he will no longer be using any live drummer. It looks like the last time Adam was with him was at Snow Ball in March. In his podcast with the Untz he mentioned that he was over it and that it negatively affected sound quality. He apparently wants more freedom to mix things up on the spot and using the drummer was limiting him. Either way, it sucks. Adam was a beast and added so much energy to the shows.
According to the band bio on the Bonnaroo website Adam will be there
"Pretty Lights is the musical vision of the ultra-versatile Colorado based producer Derek Vincent Smith, accompanied in the live setting by drummer, Adam Deitch. Together these two achieve a raw energy rarely reached in the realm of electronic music."

The last time I saw PL, it was without Adam, and it was wayy better than last year when I saw him with Adam In theory I like the idea of the live drummer, but he seems to do pretty well up there on his own.
i agree i like that he can have that freedom to mix it up whenever he wants.. unless u got some kinda of real connection with the drummer thats probably not easy.. but cant wait to see what the new set up is not sure what else he can bring to the table but im excited

There was a newspaper inside Hangout Fest that had all of the bands bios in it. The Pretty Light's one talked about them as a duo, yet it was a solo show. I bet it'll be that way at roo too.
After long consideration, I have decided that this will be the set I'm seeing friday night. I can see Shpongle live and Ratatat at Bisco, but I wont get to see PL play all night long for sure. Pumped!
I love Shpongle and hate to miss a good bit of it but this PL set is primed to be epic. I expect to hear this extremely tasteful, dubstep-esque, and ultimately mind-melting remix of Radiohead, Nirvana, and NIN that was just released to the internet by DVS today. After the Strokes, this is my ultimate must-see, especially after hearing about the extension of the time-slot.

Thanks for sharing that PL has this new song. Listening to it now. Awesome. I'm leaving today to 'Roo. Great addition for the traveling music.
