I don't think any discussion of Joanna Newsom is complete without a reference to an asset of hers that I find pleasantly surprising. See:
Oh, and Wavves stuff is kinda pop punk-ish. I definitely understand the comparison. But something like this: is typical of Wavves but unimaginable from someone like Blink-182 or Green Day. So yeah, Wavves is somewhere between a punk and a goofy kid. But aside from the persona, the music isn't exactly pop punk.
I got turned on to both of these bands by some younger slumkid/bro type friends of mine and I like them both. Saw Wavves live here in Oxford and it was a really good show - love the song Green Eyes. Never seen Best Coast live but I pretty much guarantee I will be at both of these shows! Back-to-back would be awesome.
Opppps, I'm still figuring out this posting business. Maybe this is it?
Yep this worked.
Also, I remember reading a pretty big writeup in the New York Times about Newsom. When they brought up her house, they had to be super vague because apparently she's had problems with stalkers. I wonder if a lot "indie" female artists have the same problem or if Newsom evokes that special craziness in people.

Also, for the girls (and us gay guys), the lead singer of Wavves is pretty hot - though he's also kinda short.
Heh, that pic was quite the pleasant surprise to see in my vinyl copy of Have One on Me.
Bringing the thread back to its original purpose, I plan on seeing both Wavves and Best Coast, especially if it's the back-to-back Thursday slot currently rumored. If they conflict, however, my loyalty shall go to Wavves. I think Crazy for You (Best Coast) is a bit too repetitive and not as good as their early singles. While Wavves' occasional experiments with synths don't usually turn out well, at least Nathan's trying something different and the more straight-up pop-punk songs do the job excellently in my book.
Also, Bethany's not quite what I would consider "hot"... she's far from ugly though.
Haha well, it's just an Undergrad class so it's not too hard or anything yet, it's actually pretty interesting...
Phew. Crisis averted.
If you're even thinking of law school, don't bother unless either a) you get into a top-15 school, b) get into a top-50 school and plan on being in the top 20% of your class and on law review, or c) don't mind the idea of being unemployed for long stretches of time after you graduate while you suffer under crushing amounts of student loan debt.
Yep, that's what I've been told. I'm still considering it, but I don't I necessarily want to become a lawyer. I'm more interested in doing something related to politics, and I see a Law Degree helping in that field...
You just got to get past the crazziness. But quite frankly, if you come from the same tradition of ex's as I, this would probably be a walk in the park.
Wavves and Best Coast are OK live. Nothing to get too excited for. Really don't understand their giant appeal lately. Guess Pitchfork has a lot to do with it.
Really hope Black Lips get added so we get to see Nathan Williams get punched in the face.
I saw Wavves in Memphis back in the fall. I was underwhelmed with their live performance, but I love their album (except king of the beach, might be my least favorite on the album). I'm going to give them a second chance at 'roo assuming there isn't a major conflict. I'm really hoping they've grown as performers in the last 9-10 months.

Was it when they were on tour with Phoenix? I've seen them twice and had a great time at both shows. They might of just had a bad night.

Just a warning guys, Best Coast is a snoozefest live. I've seen Wavves, too, but it was like two years ago before KotB, which I think is significantly better than their first album.
