In 2007, my first year at Bonnaroo, I missed two fantastic bands on Thursday. The National and The Black Angels. The Bonnaroo Gods have been gracious enough to book The National in 2010 and The Black Angels in 2011.
I have yet to have seen The Black Angels live, but that will quickly change as I will see them in April in Atlanta, and then again at Bonnaroo.
They have three albums out, Passover, Directions to See a Ghost, and Phosphene Dream. Their first two are brilliant, whereas I thought they lost a step with Phosphene Dream. Not a bad album by any means, but nothing in comparison to their first two.
The best way to describe the band is a more-fuzzed out and heavy Velvet Underground.
I was excited to see them on the lineup more than anybody. I missed them as well, and have been kicking myself ever since. I also got fired the week before their show near me, so I couldn't afford to go to it. It seemed like I was destined to miss them, so I couldn't have been happier when I saw their name.

I can see them closing out one of the tents before the headliners. They are really good live, although I have seen them a few times and they have very short sets.
Fantastic live band. Would love to see them in a tent or as a late night option. Their set is really enhanced by the light/smoke mix. It's cliche, but their music is trippy enough to make it work.

Of all the bands on the lineup that I'm not that familiar with (and there are a bunch) The Black Angels have piqued my interest the most. I really like what I've seen and heard. Hoping for no conflicts!
I saw them in 2007, they will forever hold the distinction as being the first band I saw play at Bonnaroo. 5 years later, I'm sure as hell going to be in the crowd again.
Not many bands can lock down a mood like they can. Only saw them at Roo and, to be perfectly honest, that's part of the reason I haven't made an effort to see them again - they made a really big impression and I haven't been interested in spoiling that memory!
If I can go this year, I will definitely catch them. I was disappointed that I was waiting to get into Bonnaroo as they were playing because I really wanted to see them. Very cool band.
I really hope to see these guys and I think the best chance for there to not be a conflict for me is if they play Thursday. When/where did they play on the Thursday in 2007?

I feel the same as Aquariumdrunk on this one, the time I saw them was a perfect situation (late Halloween night in one of my fav local venue) and they not only delivered huge but they set an amazing mood during their set. I'm wary of seeing them again because they may not be able to live up to that first time.
If they play at night or sunset I would check them out again barring major conflicts
