Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Does anyone else think it's hilarious that this thread was created due to the huge increase in pages on the other thread, and has now gone to it's fifth page in seven hours?
Any fence sitter who decides that the line-up as we currently know it (with whatever huge or not huge Saturday adds are being negotiated) is not good enough to head to Bonnaroo will not be missed. I would love a smaller crowd than the last few years any day. Less time waiting on the highway to get in, waiting in line for water, elbowing your way into the little shade there is, would be a welcome relief
I don't disagree, but Superfly's management will. They want to sell tickets, whether or not they are "good enough" to be at Bonnaroo. I'm perfectly, 100% happy if the top line of the lineup is Dr. Dre/Eminem - Arcade Fire - Widespread Panic - MMJ - Massive Attack, with Robert Plant and Black Keys up there too. However, I'm just pointing out that it would be pretty unrealistic from the perspective of trying to sell tickets. Widespread has played it so many times, is already playing most other jam festivals and isn't huge enough to really draw attention. As good and popular as MMJ and AF are they aren't incredibly popular yet in terms of the mainstream fanbase. Just saying, I'd be surprised to not see 2 megastar names on Saturday to sell more tickets. Superfly doesn't put on Bonnaroo so we can all have fun, they're trying to sell as many tickets as possible.
And don't get me wrong I will gladly welcome the addition of 2 huge acts for Saturday night! I hear your argument completely Drew I could just go for an amazing Roo that came with a little elbow room

Bonnaroo doesn't necessarily need a name like The Rolling Stones or Prince or whoever at the top to guarantee ticket sales. Certainly they wouldn't have a top line of "small timers," but at the same time, after ten years of successful festivals, they have built a steady following that will come to Roo and bring their friends regardless of the lineup. The festival crowd is a fairly large, and musically diverse, population and can certainly find some excitement about the lineup as it stands now. Even if the number one on the lineup ends up being Dre/Gorillaz/whoever, I wouldn't expect a big drop off in ticket sales.

Last year's headliners were the weakest so far since maybe 05 and they said it was the most successful roo they had in years, financially. But I know, last years headliners had bigger mainstream draw. Maybe they're going to go big with the undercard and fill it with more mainstream popular bands and draw em in that way?

Alright, so we're a week and a few days or so away from the official lineup being announced. Around this time I always grow immensely impatient and usually do one of these to play out every possible scenario so here it goes:
As stated yesterday, Arcade Fire will headline Friday night and will be followed by a My Morning Jacket late-night set that will probably go deep into the morning hours. Other news that broke was that the Black Keys will return for the second consecutive year to play on the main stage for the first time as an opening headliner on Friday or Saturday. Robert Plant & Band of Joy will pre-headline Sunday afternoon followed by rock veterans Widespread Panic closing out the festival.
Here's how the festival is looking thus far to me:
Friday - Black Keys* -> Arcade Fire* (HL) -> My Morning Jacket* (LN) Saturday - Gorillaz or Eminem & Dr. Dre or Big Boi (S) -> U2 or Paul McCartney (HL)(S) -> Girl Talk or Massive Attack or Portishead or Death From Above 1979 (LN)(S) Sunday - Robert Plant & Band of Joy* (PHL) -> Widespread Panic* (HL)
For Saturday, it's looking like there's a variety of different scenarios. One scenario involves there being only one Saturday headlining act (according to Inforoo it's leaning more towards a hip-hop act rather than a classic rock act... which makes no sense).
Another scenario is similar to last year's Stevie Wonder & Jay-Z lineup which involves two headliners.
The most likely scenarios are looking like this: 1. If U2 is there, there will most likely be a second-tier hip-hop act going on right before them (Big Boi or Dr. Dre alone, probably no Eminem.. which is fine) 2. If Eminem & Dr. Dre headline, then someone along the lines of Wilco, Cake, Scissor Sisters or even a newer act that blew up recently such as Mumford & Sons or even Black Keys since no one is quite sure if they will playing Friday or Saturday. 3. If Paul McCartney headlines, Eminem and Dr. Dre could possibly still headline, but expect a less than stellar undercard. What people don't seem to realize about getting the astronomical acts is that it leaves less money for the other acts that have made past Bonnaroos like Black Keys last year or MGMT in 2009 or My Morning Jacket in 2008.
It's most likely going to be scenario one or two, and if not U2 or Eminem & Dre, then someone along the same lines in terms of notoriety.
As for Saturday's late-night, many are saying that Massive Attack or Girl Talk are going to take the late-night slot formerly played by Deadmau5 and MGMT at 2:15 to 3:45. Portishead is also in the mix along with Dead From Above 1979 considering they're playing Coachella and have reunited.
Saturday Predictions: Big Boi -> U2 -> Girl Talk Saturday Wishes: Gorillaz -> Paul McCartney -> Death From Above 1979

^I was going to put that on there and was seriously thinking the same thing. Maybe Gorillaz > Fugees? Just anything but BEP And someone just informed me that U2 was ruled out awhile ago so I apologize for that.

Are the Keys in The Dead Weather's spot or Stevie's spot. That could make a difference. If they are in The Dead Weather's spot we could legitimately have 2 more Sat Night HLs. Something to think about.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver

Keys preheadliner= Dead weather spot. Hip hop headliner Stevie spot. There's probably not going to be a Jay-Z spot. Theyll go back to how it was before 08, no latenights on the what stage
Okay, first night to be fully honest. I'm waiting on somebody very close to me whose friend is under Death Row/Interscope label. If he responds regarding Dre, then I'll let you know. But don't hold your hopes up thinking I can give you info. I know already I'm going to Hangout fest for free mostly, and hopefully Bonnaroo. And when I mean for free, well, I mean partying rock star status. Jealous yet?
If Dr. Dre is promoting his album and putting live shows for it...then he's a better chance than Eminem to headline, but not by himself. I suspect it will a group type of thing, because Dre is not bigger than Jay-Z. Not that it matters, but you still want a headliner that provides the extra umph to the lineup to sell tickets. I'll try to let you guys know what's up. This is the only time I might have inside info regarding AC/Superfly, but hopefully that'll change.
Would it be bad to consider a Blakroc deal after Black Keys with them still performing also? I also go with the Big Boi (random, possible Outkast idea). That mashup of Black Keys and Big Boi was pretty amazing (although I doubt that'd happen). I'd also love to see Gorillaz added up there, or be considered hip-hop.
I didn't really dig Eminem at Voodoo as much as I thought I would two years ago, but whatever.
It's not that I don't believe him, it's that I don't believe his "somebody very close to me whose friend is under Death Row/Interscope label" would know anything about Dre being at Bonnaroo.
And the fact that he won't stop posting those two quotes is annoying the bejeezus out of me.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

Ok so here's a thought... We have here from Insider out Headliners and preheadliners... but that doesn't mean they're our top 6. We still have our which closers and latenights, which sometimes get billed higher than preheadliners. They could def be billed higher than the keys, plant, and/or maybe even MMJ Massive attack is a strong name. And I expect an equally strong or even stronger latenight which spot. There's still more room on the lineup for wow factor.

FTR, Death Row isn't even under Interscope. The label went bankrupt and was auctioned of a year or two ago . Dre is under the Aftermath imprint and has been since 96.

I concur. These can't really be our top six overall.
Last three Bonnaroo lineups as listed on their site, assuming what are the six "prime time" spots (in bold) are the What headliners & preheadliners:
Bonnaroo 2010 # Dave Matthews Band # Kings of Leon # Stevie Wonder # Jay-Z # Conan O'Brien # Tenacious D # Weezer # The Flaming Lips performing Dark Side of the Moon featuring Stardeath and White Dwarfs # The Dead Weather # Damian Marley and Nas # Phoenix # Norah Jones # Michael Franti and Spearhead # John Fogerty
Bonnaroo 2009 # Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band # Phish (2 shows) # Beastie Boys # Nine Inch Nails # David Byrne # Wilco # Al Green # Snoop Dogg # Elvis Costello Solo # Erykah Badu # Paul Oakenfold # Ben Harper and Relentless7 # Jimmy Fallon with Wayne Federman # The Mars Volta # TV on the Radio
Bonnaroo 2008 * Pearl Jam * Metallica * Jack Johnson * Widespread Panic * Kanye West * Chris Rock * Robert Plant and Alison Krauss featuring T Bone Burnett * Phil Lesh & Friends * My Morning Jacket * The Raconteurs * Willie Nelson * Death Cab for Cutie
There is definitely room for a few acts to outrank some of the six "prime time" acts that are being discussed. The lowest-billed of the six "prime time" acts any year appear 9th, 8th, and 10th on the respective bills - although comedians and "2 shows" makes this gauge a bit tricky. If these recent years are any indication, probably three acts on a comparable level will appear mingled with the six "prime time" acts at the top of the lineup. They just won't be playing those two time slots on What.
Not to mention some of the conflicts involving these "prime time" acts didn't exactly put them up against chopped liver... Beasties vs. David Byrne, Wilco vs. Mars Volta, Dead Weather vs. weezer, Phish vs. Public Enemy, Plant/Krauss vs. Death Cab for Cutie, to name some... just makes me want to second what laggy said:
I still think the way they did Jack Johnson / Pearl Jam in 2008 is the way they will do Arcade Fire / My Morning Jacket in 2011, followed by maybe STS9 on Which at 2am.
Then saturday we could have The Black Keys --> Eminem --> Massive Attack all on What
Then sunday could be Modest Mouse --> Robert Plant and the Band of Joy --> Widespread Panic
Top 8 bands in order would be: Eminem * Arcade Fire * My Morning Jacket * Widespread Panic * Massive Attack * The Black Keys * Robert Plant and the Band of Joy
FRI: My Morning Jacket (8.00-10.00) - Arcade Fire (11.00-01.00) SAT: The Black Keys (6.00-7.30) - Eminem ft. Dr. Dre (8.30-11.00) SUN: Robert Plant (6.00-7.30) - Widespread Panic (8.30-11.00)
