First, I want to take this opportunity to thank insider for sharing. We were all going crazy and this was much needed.
Ok so...This board went really hectic yesterday with the news and this created dozens of pages in the headliner speculation. A good portion of those dozens of pages is people asking what happened, or with incomplete info because they don't want to read through the dozens of pages. All this creates more and more pages that more people don't want to sift through, and it further perpetuates the problem. So please refer to this thread to catch up before asking a billion questions.
"What happened? Who got leaked" Fri: MMJ and AF Sat: Black Keys and a yet to be named hip hop headliner who is in negotiations Sun: Robert Plat & Band of Joy > Widespread Panic
"Can we really trust insider? Is she legit?" I can attest that Insider was the first legit source to leak the correct headliners last year for certain. My understanding is she has a history farther back then that. She IS Legit. This is happening
"Who is headlining Fri? AF or MMJ?" We don't know for sure. Could be any number of possibilities MMJ pre-headline into AF Headline AF Pre-headline into MMJ Headline AF Headline into MMJ Latenight
"Are we sure black keys fit into this top tier thing?" Yes, she said they would be the pre-headliner sat
"Could there be another headliner besides the 6 being discussed?" It's certainly possible but don't get your hopes up. We're most likely looking at 3 preheadliners and 3 headliners... or maybe 3 headliners, 2 preheadliners and a latenight. (with the MMJ latenight scenario) If there were another headline-capable act sat besides Black keys and the yet to be named hip hop act, she probably would have mentioned
"But why are there no big names?" She said they were going for Radiohead, Prince, Furthur, and lil Wayne, and they ALL fell through. They tried. You can't force a band to play a festival.
"I'M SO UPSET OMG THIS IS HORRIBLE THIS IS THE WORST LINEUP EVER I CANT BELIEVE THIS!!! WTF SUPERFLY" If you were one of the people who begged for MMJ and AF all year you need to quit yer bitchin. This is a solid lineup, and while we expected bigger names this is mostly what everyone was asking for.
Below is a Quote of everything insider said for clarification and to catch up:
Boy, you guys are much farther off this year on your guesses than usual. First of all jakicker is right that even now, we are still waiting for 100% confirm on one of the headliners. Also, this girl you guys have been about - she knows nothing.
So before I start my annual tease, please look up my past years posts before anyone questions my credibility.
Now - where do we start.......
OK, how about with the one that everyone seems to assume - let's start by checking off Arcade Fire - you can consider them a confirm for Friday night......
After that, I'm sorry to say that most of the speculation on here is way off.....
Start thinking less about big name headliners...........
Keep in mind that I am only referring to 'headliners' here, which I'll define as the 2 'prime time' spots each on Fri, Sat and Sun (6 acts) - so, just because I may say no to someone who guesses a particular act doesn't mena they may not end up on a late-night or daytime stage.....
So let's do some eliminating - I will start by saying that Furthur was looking as almost definite to close Sunday, but due to a conflict that crept up, they are out.........
Let's finish off Friday's lineup - I think I will make a lot of people happy when I reveal......
My Morning Jacket (can't recall which act is first - but there are your 2 for Friday)
Funny that of the 4 remaining prime-time acts (I'm gonna start using that term now instead of 'headliner') I haven't seen one person even speculate as to the earlier Sat night act.....
I think its worthwhile to point out that (very) early signs were pointing to Radiohead, Prince, Lil Wayne and Furthur all performing this year - and none of them panned out....
Several people have now mentioned Black Keyes - which I can confirm as pre-headliner Sat night.
Headliner Sat night will most probably be the rap act that is close to a done deal but not quite - and stop with these silly Kane posts.......
If anyone doesn't know whats up please refer them to this thread. Also, if you have any other Q's being asked too much that should be added to this 'FAQ' please suggest
Laggy, I think the awesome points you lost from your "drunken ramblings" the other night are going to be replenished and then some after making this thread.
If it's not Eminem or the BEP, then insider is wrong, because at the moment those two are currently the only working hip-hop acts, big enough to fill that slot.
An Outkast reunion will come in time, but not yet. The entire purpose of their break was to concentrate on their solo efforts and Big Boi's venture is only just beginning.
So yeah it's either the Black Keys > Eminem or Black Keys > Black Eyed Peas (Who are currently scheduled to headline others festivals this summer)

Dre does have the album that's slowly leaking out, so it may as well be one of the biggest hip-hop shows in history with Em, Snoop, etc.
Em by himself, on the other hand, I'm sure I wouldn't be the only person just not feeling him at that spot. His work on Relapse and Recovery was just too dark to make him the guy at the Saturday night spot. Plus, a lot of people, critics and fans alike, just didn't like either.

BEP definitely doesn't count as a hip-hop act. Consider past years... Beastie Boys, Jay-Z, Kanye... having BEP be the next big hip-hop act at roo would be downright OFFENSIVE, considering the legendary status of the rest of them (love or hate them). What about Wu-Tang? Aren't they big enough? Maybe not... I mean, *I* think they are, but...
What if we just got a bunch of smaller hip-hop/rap acts? Ludacris (he's not SMALL persay but not big enough to be a headliner), Spank Rock, Big Boi, Black Star, maybe Wiz Khalifa, etc.? I'd be okay with that.

They gotta have either: OutKast, Dr. Dre w/ Eminem, or NWA. Either that or Jay-Z/Kanye there. I don't think they want to rely on Kanye for a second time.

Wu Tang live on stage is not nearly as much fun as it sounds, I promise. Easily one of the most disappointing shows I've seen, and I didn't even pay the $50 asking price for the tickets.

No Wu Tang played small theaters on this past tour.
So if no one believes in BEP (thank god), than it's gotta be Eminem. I just don't see Dre being ready yet and other than an NWA or Outkast one off which clearly aren't happening either, than please name a hip-hop act who can headline a major festival...

Thank god Lil Wayne fell through, I love his music but he is the last person I'd want to see live. Now lets start praying Eminem doesn't materialize...
