I can't help but thinking there has to be reason for the choice of the word 'speckled' - not just to generically mean something with spots or freckles.
Ben Keith was a peddle steel legend who played with Great Speckled Bird (they were one of the bands on the train in 'Festival Express'). He was also a 40year collaborator with Neil Young - was the pedal steel on Harvest and many other albums, and over the years was part of pretty much every Neil Young backing band other than Crazy Horse. He died at home on Neil Young's ranch on July 10 last year.
This might all mean nothing.
But could an appearance by Neil Young last year at SP/ACE have been thwarted by this speckled lad's demise?
as far as watershed...truly things will never be the same in the music world with his passing. He was also a highly sought after Nashville session artist and had contributed to hundreds of recordings by all the biggest names in country music over the past 40+ years. Also a top notch producer (Jewel's 'Pieces of You' for one).
Let me demonstrate: A trip to space thwarted by a speckled lad's demise. A watershed moment otherwise.
Using the same very scientific formula, I have indeed solved it. Rick Astley's meteoric rise to fame was thwarted by the fact that he's so lame. His watershed moment is any time anyone gets rickrolled. We all get to look forward to hearing the only song he ever wrote or performed or bothered to read the lyrics to, "Never Gonna Give You Up", for 3 1/2 hours Saturday Night on the What Stage. /thread
Actually I think it's Atmosphere.
FOUL!!! Who can solve anything with Rick Astley music in their heads? Careful with those catchy pop earworms dude!

I dont know, but for some reason this one makes the most sense to me. although i am reluctant to think that Neil Young would be the very first clue, this logic just works for me.
with the separation of "space" to SP/ACE (Superfly/ A.C.E.), the speckled bit, and also with out thinking in terms of bonnaroo, the passing of a good friend who you knew for 40 years, and lived on your property would most definitely be a watershed moment (reason to cry) .

Bonnaroo 10 a giant 4 day long Rickroll? That would be epic lol
Back to the whole "SP/ACE" theory, a band that was scheduled to play 'Roo and then didn't was The Ting Tings. But, I don't know how they would fit the rest of the clue..
the black kids, allman brothers, and i think one more act canceled in 08 down and the ting tings canceled in 09
All of Bonnaroo Northeast was cancelled in 2003. Willie Nelson and Maroon 5 cancelled in 04. Down cancelled in 2009.
Clue: "A trip to space thwarted by a speckled lad's demise. A watershed moment otherwise."
A trip to SP/ACE (Superfly Productions/AC Entertainment) stopped by a freckled (English) boy's death/end/quitting. A turning point otherwise.
If we were to think of it as "other Y's"....
If we were to consider Neil Young in his younger days, he certainly seems speckled. Or maybe it was the grainy album artwork?
Could this be a clue for someone who's not going to be there? No CSNY?
A trip to Superfly Productions/AC Entertainment thwarted by Neil Young (whose pictures as a lad looked speckled). Other than Neil Young, it would've been a decisive booking?
Probably a reach and definitely getting us no further to an artist actually being on the lineup, huh?
I'm not upset at all about the clues. I just keep telling myself that within less than a month, we'll know the full lineup. One day at a time.
I pretty much agree. I don't really care the the clues are going nowhere. I just think it's hilarious, when Bonnaroo takes over the clues, they go to absolute sh!t.

does anyone else like this?
Whether or not the clue refers to Neil Young (and probably doesn't - this is stretching it just as far as all the rest), I still think "speckled" needs more thought than is being given to it. I absolutely DO NOT think it just means some guy with freckles.
