I can't help but thinking there has to be reason for the choice of the word 'speckled' - not just to generically mean something with spots or freckles.
Ben Keith was a peddle steel legend who played with Great Speckled Bird (they were one of the bands on the train in 'Festival Express'). He was also a 40year collaborator with Neil Young - was the pedal steel on Harvest and many other albums, and over the years was part of pretty much every Neil Young backing band other than Crazy Horse. He died at home on Neil Young's ranch on July 10 last year.
This might all mean nothing.
But could an appearance by Neil Young last year at SP/ACE have been thwarted by this speckled lad's demise?
as far as watershed...truly things will never be the same in the music world with his passing. He was also a highly sought after Nashville session artist and had contributed to hundreds of recordings by all the biggest names in country music over the past 40+ years. Also a top notch producer (Jewel's 'Pieces of You' for one).

does anyone else like this?
One thing wrong with this is that Ben Keith passed away July 26, 2010 making that after Roo.
EDIT: Also, I'm pretty sure the Mozart stuff leads to Amadeus by Falco.
I just want to say I catch hell on here sometimes, but I genuinely love the board and the peeps... That being said... by popular request.... I have to give this thread my stamp of disapproval.

could tie the clues into these possibly
april 11, 1961 - Bob Dylan made his professional singing debut at Gerde's Folk City. He opened for John Lee Hooker. He sings 'House of the Rising Sun' and others
april 11, 1970 - Peter Green quit Fleetwood Mac while on tour in Germany
both 'watershed' moments ..maybe? just throwing some guesses out there

I was thinking about it. Maybe were just over analyzing everything way to much. I think whoever it was might have had it with the Apollo band(sorry I don't remember)that was at roo 02, I thought that person said but i couldn't find them. Trip to space thwarted by a lads demise-the real first trip to space put off by Kennedy's death. And a watershed moment-duh..but i do have another idea but I don't think it goes anywhere. Isn't there an Apollo venue? Do they play shows there?

The thinking was that he may have been ill for a while - like when SP/ACE would have been asking six months or more earlier (demise can mean a gradual decline). If it was a sudden death, NY would have been on the bill and then cancelled and we would all know why, but the time line is wrong for this and, of course, it didn't happen like this. So I believe this theory to be weak too, but I also believe we need a new line of thought. That's why I said...
Whether or not the clue refers to Neil Young (and probably doesn't - this is stretching it just as far as all the rest), I still think "speckled" needs more thought than is being given to it. I absolutely DO NOT think it just means some guy with freckles.
2008 Allman Brothers Band has to cancel their trip to Bonnaroo due to Greg Allmans treatment of Hepatitis C (speckled). It was a watershed moment as many were let down to the news and AC had to announce another artist that April. Caused Panic and Jack Johnson to switch spots. This i feel could be a clue for the return of the Allman Brothers especially since they played Bonnaroo early on. It also doesn't focus on death rather than a blip on the band's radar.

I posted earlier that "A trip to space thwarted by a speckled Lad's demise" was Apollo 13. Ken Mattingly was supposed to was supposed to be the Command Module Pilot but contracted the german measles before the flight and was unable to go. My guess was Apollo Sunshine who played Roo in 2002.

Yeah, I dropped the Apollo Sunshine guess on page 8 and while I think it is valid and they did play early on 02 as well as something like 05/06...I don't really think it's them. I think the clue has to tie the artist in better. I think The Allman Brothers follows the thought process of someone missing Bonnaroo and I think the U2 guess fits the clue otherwise. If you go back over these 40 pages, you can rule out a few of our guesses pretty quickly and we are really only working with 3-4 solid guesses.

I did some google searches to follow up on the Apollo theater/Showtime at the Apollo idea, but got nowhere. Can anyone else think of anything that would tie that in (Trip to space = gig at the Apollo)?

What is speckled about Hep C? I thought most of the time you didn't even show symptoms, and if you did it didn't include anything speckled. Just mostly internal stuff nothing like smallpox or chicken pox or anything.

not such the literal "colorful" form perhaps tainted or inflicted

I've got it:
Sojourner - Sojourner was the name of an original Mars rover that lost communication within 3 months of launch. Anyone ever seen a Mars rover? It's a speckled little lad. Of course the sending of our first rover to Mars is a watershed moment IT'S SOJOURNER THE CHRISTIAN ROCK BAND!
(I can do this for so many bands, we are missing something)

It's Eminem *(taped frames and a speckled nose) In 1991, Mathers' maternal uncle, Ronald "Ronnie" Nelson, committed suicide via shotgun wound to the head. Mathers was very close to his uncle, and was devastated at his death; today, he sports a tattoo reading "Ronnie R.I.P." on his upper left arm This was a big turning point in his life and provoked his efforts ending in his rise to stardom and a watershed moment a white boy in predominantly African-American industry.

It's not Eminem. That might have been an important moment for his life, but it still doesn't match the clue. Eminem's "trip to space" was not "thwarted" by his uncles suicide, it was encouraged by it.
