1.) Insider informed us that they would be playing friday night. 2.) As one of the main headliners there is NO way they will ever play on thursday night. 3.) Occassionally a bands performance date will be listed as the first day of the festival (thursday) as a place holder until the schedule is announced.
also, Arcade Fire has Thursday listed on their tour page but that's likely just the same thing that most bands do before the schedule comes out.
Yeah, I'm still not totally buying. But I'm with you, gate times and this rumor in one day seems odd.
The gate times are probably totally unrelated, though. It's still terrible trying to get into Bonnaroo, so maybe the only reason they're opening it up is so everyone can get in in time to see music.

After last year and all the problems with the mud I could see how they would want to open the gates up try to mitigate traffic and wait times. Did your friend email and ask them? Does he work the traffic team? I can't see bonnaroo advertising this to the general public though or else I feel like half the festival will try to show up even earlier to get a good camping spot.

This year, Bonnaroo will open Wednesday evening June 8th, 2011 to allow more time for vehicles to enter the campgrounds. The parking lot and campground will open at about 7:00 PM on Wednesday and will close around 3:00 PM on Monday. Historically, the longest delays for arriving attendees have occurred from 4:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, so consider these peak delay times when you plan your trip. Come early and get ahead of the crowd!
I'm pretty sure that's been up a little while and isn't big news.....just something nobody has really been talking about.

He texted me and said he got an email telling him. I still haven't received an email about it, so I don't know.oops

Haven't they always let people in early on wednesday night though? They just put people in BFE first right?

They always let people in but that was like an unkept secret. They didn't promote it or tell people the gates would be open. They used to say the official opening times were on Thursday morning (unless i'm wrong and that changed last year....can anyone confirm?). This year they are saying the official opening time is Wednesday night.
Arcade Fire just posted Bonnaroo on their site today (As well as a few other dates). The person who posted this speculation on their Arcade Fire focused Twitter account said, Arcade Fire always posts the day they are performing when it comes to festivals on their site. They just posted Coachella date on their site supposedly (it was not edited from the first day of the festival to their actual date of play).
I do not check their site everyday to notice this...
'Always' is a strong statement, so I guess we will find out soon.
Arcade Fire posted the Coachella date they were playing because Coachella releases the lineup already split up into days. Every day for Bonnaroo is listed on their booking agent's site. They are not playing Thursday. This is a stupid conversation.

I might be misreading this, so please disregard if what I am saying is irrelevant, but Coachella announces what day the artists are playing on when they announce the initial lineup.

I wouldnt care about not seeing the band I've been staring at for the last two hours during their last two songs because they are blocked by GIANT CRAZY LED SOUND RESPONSIVE BALLOONS. That would just put Bonnaroo over the top. I already requested it from Ashley Capps via Twitter.
They only played one hour and a half all total. they droped them before 1hr 15m when they went off stage for a sec. They were awesome but I don't think they were intended for people to just hold on too. Hopefully Bonnaroo keeps them flying through the crowd.
