Pretty underwhelmed by the latenights. Want to see Hall & Chromeo, Dan Deacon, and Deadmau5. The rest I would have been fine seeing in the day. And Bisco over Umphrey's... are you fucking serious? I won't even stop by Bisco, where as Umphrey's would have been my number 1 late night show if they were playing. I think Umphrey's has way more fans from other genres than Bisco does.
There is obviously a reason Bonnaroo isn't scheduling them late night. ... Maybe they don't think they're a late night band.
There's something to this. While the audience needs to have spent hours getting wasted enough to enjoy a bisco set, Umprrey's can rock any time of day or nights.

I'm quacking pissed about Black Keys because I have a feeling we are going to have a LCD, Black Keys, Lips conflict and I was hoping that I could see most of LCD and see Flaming lips doing darkside but being forced to miss black keys sucks since they were a top 10 for me to see but the other 2 shows will be more legendary in bonnaroo history because of the uniqueness. I can see the Black Keys on tour, can't see lips doing darkside and LCD on tour.

Very good point. If it comes to it I'll probably skip The Black Keys.

Definitely^. As much as I love The Black Keys there is not really any reason they need to be playing at night. In all likelihood I will be missing their set, whereas if they were playing in the day I would likely see them.
Umphrey's not late night is a letdown, I was looking forward to that. Galactic and the Black Keys will be sick late night, but I also feel like they would be perfectly acceptable during the day whereas Umphrey's loses some of their appeal during the daytime.
I'll be at Lips/JayZ/Chromeo/Black Keys/Galactic...those are my 5 late nights to check out, hopefully they aren't *all* going at the same time.

i dunno, the late night selections basically make sense to me. unless you're into jambands, and then yeah you wanted umphrey's. but this lineup was light on jambands in the first place.
if i had to guess, their thinking probably went something like this: they needed at least one of the big name jambands for a notable daytime set. it simply wasn't gonna be bisco, and galactic - who are a roo late night staple - were daytime last year.
there's usually one wildcard act, and this year, it's the keys. i like it, even if i have to miss it. it'll be a real treat for whoever sees it.
I'm shocked at no UM late night. I expected them to be in moe.'s spot from last year, with an epic 3-4 hour set. I am excited about the late-night Clutch set, though, as long as they don't focus their entire set on their most recent 2 albums. I'm hoping to catch the Flips, Clutch, GWAR, and Galactic, and Bassnectar if there's no conflict.
Me: Did you say Retarded Steve was playing tonight? Boo: No, I have a speech impediment. I said that Retarded Steve is playing. www.411mania.com/siteimages/jcs logo_25254.jpg[/img] Check out Jam Central Station on Facebook on.fb.me/bT2xQx and @jamcentral411 on Twitter

I would have rather seen Isis in place of Clutch or Gwar. I would have also liked to have seen Tenacious D latenight, but that wasn't happening with Jay-Z one night and The Lips the other. I just think Umphrey's was a huge miss.

well with the keys being late night this means im prob missing atleast 2 of the flaming lips, lcd and dan deacon. theres no way im missing the keys, a top 3 act for me.
There is obviously a reason Bonnaroo isn't scheduling them late night. It didn't happen in 08, and it didn't happen again this year. Maybe they don't think they're a late night band.
i doubt that. um had a late night in '04 that went until sunrise.
in '06 UM split time with bisco in the late night slot...i am highly anticipating something like this happening again, even if its just a set break bayliss coming out for a few songs.
i think if bisco weren't on the line up, then UM would have their spot. as it stands, UM is better suited to a daytime slot than bisco, and i find it hard to argue against that.
I predict LCD Soundsystem will be this year's Animal Collective, the act everyone wants to see late night that ends up on the What Stage in the middle of the day.
And before you say it, Animal Collective was also "confirmed" as a late night act before the schedule came out...
This is what i have as latenight on my nearly completed mock
Jay Z (What Stage) Flaming Lips (Which Stage)
Tents Friday: LCD Soundsystem, Daryl Hall and Chromeo, Les Claypool, Dan Deacon
Tents Saturday: Thievery Corporation, Deadmau5, Disco Biscuits, Bassnectar, Maybe Gwar.
First, for the past several years there has almost always been multiple artists playing in each tent per night, with a few exceptions. Second, if those are the latenights, that's boring as sh*t. It's pretty much all the exact same type of music in each tent - semi-electronica/dance/pop stuff, except for Les Claypool.
I think Thievery Corporation plays a stage, maybe Which Stage as the last act of the day on either Friday or Saturday, around dusk. I think maybe Chromeo/Darryl Hall play during the day, same with LCD Soundsystem.
They tend to go for diversity in these things - so you'll have hip hop vs. dance vs. jam/rock, etc. Otherwise you're just making everyone angry - people who don't like the type of music exemplified by the bands you listed won't have anything to do, and the people who do like that stuff will be mad that it's all going on at once. Logistically it doesn't make sense.
I think maybe you get a hip-hop late night - Kid Cudi, Wale and Jay Electronica, perhaps. Hell, I could even see Damien Marley/Nas going late night. There could be a heavy metal late night, with Isis/Baroness/Gwar.
I just think there's this tendency to place bands who SOUND like they should play late night there, when Bonnaroo doesn't always think like that. I mean, last year everyone was convinced that Animal Collective, The Mars Volta, etc. would be late nights, and nobody thought that Ben Harper would be.
Yea but the last two times they've played during the day, there has to be a reason.
there is a reason, they're dumb.
animal collective played during the day too, does that mean they're not a late night band?
fact is, there are always more bands that could play late night than slots available. imo, this is just a slap in the face...biscuits played late night 08, galactic 07, umphs 06...biscuits shoulda taken the afternoon slot.

Probably not intended to be a slap in the face to anyone. I can't imagine what kind of logistical nightmare Bonnaroo is, even before it starts. They probably have to just fit everyone where they can. I'm okay with seeing Umphrey's during the day like in 08.

I don't know, they didn't have to waste 90 minutes of latenight on MGMT last year but they did anyway. Compared to last year, this year's late night makes a lot more sense. They didn't go an schedule all the dance acts on the same night, and even Black Keys at night sounds like a great show. Too bad though that it's going to end up on the most stacked night ever...

I dont have any problem with the late night for the most part - it's the best ever imo! but i think the biscuits get a bit too much leeway...since they're not a very good day band they get the late night slot? not fair. i just wouldve switched those 2 bands and it would've been perfect.
So are we sure that the Flaming Lips are going to play Dark Side of the Moon at 2:30am? If so, I could see Bonnaroo having the Black Keys play from Midnight to 2am. Right?
Bummed actually...knew I'd have some major conflicts late night because of JayZ and Flips DSOTM set, but now with Bleck Keys, Clutch and Galactic late night also, I'm gonna have major problems...was looking forward to all three and now figure I could possibly miss them..blah!
i've been waiting to find out the late night schedule and i am NOT disappointed! friday is going to present some extreme conflicts, but im pumped about the nonstop excitement.
my friday will consist of some black keys, hall/chromeo and bassnectar with hopefully ALL of dsotm and some lcd squeezed in too. it is possible. i can live with just dsotm, black keys and one of the other three
my saturday will be jay z for at least an hour, deadmau5 at least an hour, a glimpse at gwar, and about 30 min of disco biscuits.
how can i be sad about this? squeeze all the best acts into late nights. its not scorching hot and we'll all be at the peak of party mode. also, this opens up time on friday to possibly see les during the day during times i might have been at hall/chromeo or black keys
A Thieve's Parade 2/24 Conspirator 2/26 Kevin Smith 3/11 Keller 3/17 Papadosio 3/18 JJ Grey 3/25 Bela Fleck/Edgar Meyer 3/26 Toubab Krewe 3/27 O'Death 4/11 Budos Band 4/22 EOTO 4/28 Summer Camp 5/6-29 All Good
Oh man, SUCH a sick group of late-night shows! The conflicts/running around are going to be KILLER. SO many of the acts I am dying to see are in this list...I'm already trying to come to grips with the choices I'm going to have to make.
