Sweet find nodepression! Did they play anything else? Still not feeling the love for this song, although it is the obvious single for the album. Excellent performance though.
Personally think that "I Can Change" is gonna be their most successful single off the new album.

That was pretty cool. I think all I don't like about the song is the stupid chorus, the melody and composition is solid, and as usual Murphy's lyrics are on point.

Interesting profile of James Murphy/LCD Soundsystem in The New Yorker last week. There's just an abstract on their site right now; if they post the full thing for non-subscribers later on, I'll post the link.

I don't get all the hate for Drunk Girls. Like, honestly I can't see why people dislike it at all. Maybe it's not the best song on the album, but I couldn't even say which song is the best on this album and honestly I'd place Drunk Girls up there. It's catchy and it's not especially long – not that length is normally an issue (at least not when the music is good), but there's something to be said for concise songwriting.
And I'm not sure LCD Soundsystem is really breaking up. Maybe for a couple years. But this registers as a Murphy-style publicity stunt/statement; the break-up not only tells fans not to expect anything else but establishes that Murphy's making music on his own terms, not fan's. Which remains a real concern for LCD Soundsystem, as much as he jokes about it – on This Is Happening, he's still talking about fan expectations ("You Wanted a Hit", "One Touch")
And beyond all that, it makes LCD Soundsystem this year's must-see act. And sets them up to be bigger than ever when they come back. Give LCD a few years and they'll be playing late night Which, if not What. He doesn't have to make any new music as LCD; their catalogue at this point is already big enough and good enough that he can play a full set without really touring on new material.
I'm sure he's taking some time off. But even then I expect him to be working on something musically. Whether solo stuff or a new group or with someone else (I would love to see some epic collaboration – James Murphy & Brian Eno or something like that). The fact is, he's in the process of establishing himself as one of the biggest names in music. Damn near everyone (and by everyone I mean people who are young enough and/or follow music) know who he is by now, and whatever he does next is going to get noticed. And I don't think it'll be too long before he's back with LCD.

I've been thinking about what type of bands Bonnaroo brings in year after year, and unfortunately I feel like LCD, even if they do come back, would be a band that only plays the festival once.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver

Hahaha, I agree 100%. However, questionablesanity completely disagrees. He claims that practically no one has head of them...
I disagree with the overall point of your post though. They're not getting back together. This is it. James is moving on to something else and not going back. I'd be willing to bet a good deal of money on that.

Just got around to listening to the new album last night. I loved all of it...but, man. Dance Yrself Clean. Once the song "starts" 3mins in, I just can't wait to experience that with a 'roo crowd.

While once again I would appreciate Pitchfork spending less space on the albums importance, and where it fits in todays musical landscape, I agree with the score.

I was thinking about doing this when I was listening to TiH earlier, so here goes nothing. I'm comparing based off of what I would consider same-ish tracks. All My Friends > I Can Change Someone's Great > Dance Yrself Clean Get Innocuous > One Touch North American Scum < Drunk Girls New York I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down = All I Want Sound of Silver = Somebody's Calling Me
For these I didn't really feel like there were good comparisons:
Watch The Tapes << Pow Pow Us Vs Them <<< You Wanted A Hit Time To Get Away <<< Home

anyone else buy TIH today? i have it in my grubby little hands and it has me in a very good mood right now.
'dance yrself clean', 'all i want', and 'home' are really rising on my list of great lcd songs. i think i might even like home as a better closer than 'great release', and i have a very high opinion of great release.

yeah my local record store said the vinyl's not available yet; i dunno what's the deal with that or how long it's gonna take. i'm such a whore i bought the cd which i rarely do anymore.
Yeah I got TiH and Brothers on Friday. I've found myself driving really slowly trying to fit in the whole song before I get there.
Haha its funny you brought that up, I did the same thing last night on the way home from work. I took the looong way just to listen to TiH in its entirety. Plus it was really nice out.

Yea a lot better than coachella to be honest. I'm not sure if it was because it was in a club instead of on the main stage or the longer setlist. They added a few songs to the setlist that really made the set for me, Yr City's a Sucker, Tribulations, Daft Punk Is Playing At My House, and Someone Great, were all fantastic.
Us v Them Drunk Girls Get Innocuous! Yr City's a Sucker Pow Pow Daft Punk Is Playing At My House All I Want All My Friends I Can Change Tribulations Movement Yeah Encore: Someone Great Losing My Edge New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down Empire State of Mind
Set was about 1 hour and 50 minutes with a short encore break. Only looked at my watch to see when they started and ended, that's how great it was.

What a setlist! I will be a happy camper two weeks from today if they replicate this one. If they added "On Repeat" and/or "Dance Yrself Clean" I may just lay down and die a happy man.
Somebody needs to remind James that they are closing the tent, and time restrictions are only guidelines this late at night...

They played the same set every night at the SAME venue...if that isn't lame idk what is...
and yes...it does matter to me...doesn't it suck knowing what song's going to be next? to me it does. although believe me ill be there and i know it will be fantastic.
