Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.
Damn near everyone (and by everyone I mean people who are young enough and/or follow music) know who he is by now, and whatever he does next is going to get noticed.
Hahaha, I agree 100%. However, questionablesanity completely disagrees. He claims that practically no one has head of them...
I disagree with the overall point of your post though. They're not getting back together. This is it. James is moving on to something else and not going back. I'd be willing to bet a good deal of money on that.
I still stand by this. I live in a college town and have never once heard anyone even mention LCD Soundsystem. I'm glad that I've learned about them though and am spreading the word.
NoD, how is the show besides the music? Every video that I've watched seems a little boring as far as what's going on onstage. Do they have much of a light show? Does Murphy do much but walk around and sing? Any crowd interaction?

^ I hadn't heard of 'em before all this started either. Flipping thru the entertainment section of today's paper I noticed "This is Happening" - LCD Soundsystem- #10 top album, preceded by #3 Brothers. According to associated Press
"Some day when humans are long extinct, I'm positive that aliens will come to earth and this video will be the one thing they find to tell them about our species...and somehow I'm happy with that. "

Definitely not huge outside of the music saavy. I think a lot of people on this board probably hang out with people with similar music tastes and don't realize how clueless most of the public is. My friends aren't generally into the same music as me and I go to most shows alone and it is clear LCD Soundsystem is not a huge name.

The thing is you live in Indiana. No wonder why nobody around you has heard of them. I live in Cincinnati and to be honest I never hear a word about them down here either. It's no secret that this part of the country is way behind, on everything. Go to NYC or LA, you know somewhere that actually keeps current with art, and college kids will give you a stupid look if you ask them if they know who LCD, Justice, etc is. This isn't hipster snobbery either. It's just the simple fact that this part of the country is always way behind, especially with the arts.

I don't know about all that, maybe just for the stuff YOU like. Nashville has a happening music scene, and I have seen/heard of many bands well before they got popular because they came here to play.

LCD Soundsystem (and electronic music in general) is huge among 17-23 year olds. I go to Illinois and our campus basically shut down on the day the Forgiveness Rock Record and This is Happening leaked. Lots of kids from my school go down to Ultra or HARD Fest in LA each year. Also, see the extent to which the electronic stage at Lolla has blown up

Nashville is indeed has a much more "happening" music scene than most cities. This is pretty much common knowledge. I like some music in every genre so this is nothing specific to me. Nashville's music scene is on par with and maybe even surpasses Chicago's which is really impressive considering how much bigger Chicago is.

The thing is so many record labels are either based here, or have a huge presence that people want/need to come play here so the right guy hears their work. What sucks is that because of that Nashville notoriously does not pay bands much to play here so once they get established it is usually a while between visits. You can see some unreal shows at the Ryman though at least twice a month if you have the cash. Even if they are a touring act artists tend to make Ryman shows special. Like when Rod y Gab played and Rodrigo pulled out an electric guitar for a song.
lol at caring about them playing the same setlist. thats pretty common practice for bands. not everyone is a jamband.
I couldn't tell you the last time that I saw a band that plays the same set every night. I don't think that's very common except for bands that are very limited or ones that have a huge stage show.

actually it is very very common
Have to agree here, I will only go see Dead or Phish projects for two nights in a row these days.

I do wish more artists would switch up their setlist from night to night. Nothing major but a little shake up would keep things interesting for them and the fans.
I suppose the monotony is a product of the way record labels shape artists these days. They feel like they have to always play the new stuff to boost record sales or the same played out crowd favorites because its "that" song.
Its nothing to dwell upon, because a good show is a good show regardless, but it would be nice to see a little spontaneity.
Often artists like playing new songs because they are somewhat tired of the older songs. Also, I don't understand why it matters if a band switches up the setlist unless you are seeing multiple shows of the tour.

for example, Tool has a setlist put in stone they play. if you saw a Tool show before Bonnaroo, they probably played all the same songs at both shows, in the same order. IMO that doesnt take away from what they are doing as a band. they have figured out what they think is the best way to present their show and dont want to change it. this is why no one does "Tool terr" or obsessively downloads every show they play. pretty sure David Byrne does things the same way, its pretty common. certain bands you can see every night and get a different show, but its not really par for the course outside of the jam scene

Sine Dance Yrself Clean supposedly tears up his voice and the fact that it hasn't shown up in his very structured set lists is making me try and stop thinking about the song live. Its an awesome track and maybe the best on the new cd, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

It's my favorite LCD track, period. I doubt we'll hear it. But if we do, it will probably be the closer (since it does apparently tear his voice up), definitely not the opener. I'd even settle for a half ass version that didnt hit the high notes. I just want to hear that beat kick in.

Leoanrd Cohen last year was one of the best shows I have ever seen, he plays the same set every night pretty much. I would go see it again, but not twice in a year.

This setlist was so good, I'd be happy to see it twice. Seriously that good.
Do I wish they'd play some other new stuff, sure, but this setlist is paced to hit hard, and it does.
And Questionablesanity, I've thought about your question. The thing is, it doesn't really matter. They bring a disco ball along that they'll shine a light on at opportune moments, but really the attention is all on the music. There's a bunch of instruments on stage placed haphazardly, and it's kind of fun to see the band stumble around and make this really precise, dirty beat. Not boring in the slightest.
