I have gone on record that I like this lineup. I figured out how to make it look better. Highlight all the band names, copy, and then paste onto a Word document (or the Apple equivalent). Next, delete Dave Matthews Band and Kings of Leon, and then re-insert them after Jay-Z. Looks much better.
A lot of people had unreasonably high expectations. Just keep it in perspective, folks...and remember...they aren't finished.
well if that happened i wish they would say something ....like...."big stuff in the works" or something. if that happened then i wouldnt be upset at them...right now im sorta like...."what?????"
the elton john and paul simon suggestion makes sense.
Dude... you left out four of the biggest musical legends on the card: John Prine, Jimmy Cliff, Jack White, and Les Claypool.
And I'd put TMBG, Nas, and Tori Amos in the "should be legends" category.
John Fogerty, anyone?? Ever heard of CCR?
Good call. That makes 10 legends. Roo is legend-heavy this year. And there is potential for more if the rumors come true. Ever heard of Paul Simon or Neil Young? I hear they're pretty good... ;-)
I was loving the lineup all day yesterday. Didn't even mind the way it was released. My friends who were interested in going are now thinking I'm crazy though, because while they'd like to see a lot of the middle tier bands, all they're willing to drop big $$ is a huge classic rock/alt rock type act and it just didn't happen. Stevie is cool and looking forward to him, but he's not big enough I guess. DMB, Kings of Leon and JayZ are even fine with us, but we can see all of them at home or within a few hour drive EVERY YEAR. Ditto for most of the middle tier bands. My friends didn't even need something ridiculous like Macca or Waters...Soundgarden would have been sufficient..........Blah..I don't mind being at the fest alone cause I'll have fun, but the drive SUCKS alone....don't see the crowd being like the past either...just not enough jam, which even I'll miss...planned on doing Roth again, but since I won't get my jam fix here or there, maybe I'll try Waka or something else closer..that seems like a haul from Virginia!
Anyways, I rarely post and know this was all said many times last night and this morning, but Ijust felt like venting a bit and message boards are better for that than people IRL regardless...stoked for some people I haven't gotten a chance to see (Fogarty, Beck, Kristofferson, Stevie, JayZ, Weezer, Tenacious D), plus tons of cool up and coming bands...plus Flips "DSOTM" and Deadmau5 are gonna be awesome latenight!

i agree row. i dont dislike KOL and people here liked them when they played here recently, however, the point is that......you can see kol and a lot of these bands. i dont have anything against a lot of these folks....but i want a "destination" band
So far, I see he headliners as a let down from previous years, but I feel like they made up for it in the middle. I'm still excited to go and am hoping for one or two more bands in the top ten.

"Destination" band is a good way to put it....Bruce/Phish, PJ/Metallica, Police/Tool, Radiohead/Petty were all top of the list headliner combinations that it is pretty easy to convince people on..the ticket nearly covers good seats at those concerts when you combine a little travel you might have to do to get to them, plus all the other great bands you get "for free", all using that mindset.....while DMB and KOL may be just as expensive nowadays, it's not quite the same effect since they do tour so much....Stevie is def a lot harder to catch, but again..need someone to pair with him and those two at the top kill my chances of getting other to go...I'd say this compares to 2005 in top line (Panic, DMB, Trey, ABB), but that at least had a lot of 1 genre...
ah well..enough complaining...I have a ticket and will be going regardless...got bored and compared top 15 bands from the past 4 years...one name before or right after DMB would really make this look pretty good..amazing what one name can do! The rest really doesn't look that bad at all for someone like me with very diverse musical tastes

This year’s lineup is awful and Bonnaroo should be ashamed that they dropped the ball this much. This will be my 6th Roo and this lineup is at the bottom hands down. HOWEVER, this is Bonnaroo!!! It is my favorite and most anticipated 5 days of the year. This year will NOT be any different… WE are the ones who broke our hearts…we believed all the Waters, Young, Paul M, Prince and The Who rumors. WE are the ones who got psyched over the Stones, Soundgarden, Gorillaz, Lady Gaga and U2 possibilities. Lets learn from OUR mistakes and NOT get on the “more BIG acts to be announced” bandwagon. This has rarely happened…will we get more acts? For sure, but lets watch the hype so we do not let ourselves down again. I am happy with the lineup? No way…but I am happy that we are only 120 days away from the best 5 days of the year!!!
PS…Seeing Them Crooked Vultures tonight! Woot Woot…
All I can say... I got 99 problems with this lineup!
haha, dude. word. jay electronica will be MIND BLOWING though. his style wars ep with dilla is nothing but the best.
otherwise, i'm alittle disappointed so far, and really only "can't wait" for jay ele, japandroids, and i'm still waiting for pavement and mmj!!
thinking back to previous bonnaroos, having missed sigur ros and broken social scene in 08 (i think) and the line up last year was SO tite. wish anco would play again, ha!
All I can say... I got 99 problems with this lineup!

This is exactly what I am talking about...I would LOVE to see MMJ and Pavement, but WHY GET OUR HOPES UP? Why set yourself up for disappointment? What benefit would it be for Superfly/AC to withold those acts from us at the initial lineup release? There isn't one...
ok, I was going to refrain from comment but if in fact the promoters DO read these boards then what I have to say needs to be said in the way that I am going to say it. If I piss anyone off in the process I sincerely apologize.
First off, I bought my ticket in presale and am planning to go and have a good time whatever. I'm with some of the others I've seen here who are excited about undercard acts and late night possibilities and will probably use headliner time slots to recharge, regroup and get my second wind - except for Stevie, the other 2 headliners (if in fact KOL and DMB are headliners) do very little for me. Not even sure I would consider Stevie a headliner but he's a legend and should be a good show.
Now as far as the way this has been handled by the promoters thus far - here getting to the meat of my posting:
I think that some good old-fashioned up-front truth would have gone a long way in making this whole package more palatable to many people. If there were some big acts that pulled out or whose negotiations fell through, then rather than pushing the release date back and then releasing the lineup...all the smoke and mirrors and stupid internet tricks....why not just release a preliminary lineup and tell us up front that some details still have to be ironed out, or that some things still in works, last minute changes, etc....(choice of words irrelevant and did not have to reveal any details)
truth is always the best policy. My profession (medicine) sometimes involves the delivery of bad news and/or outcomes not being great, but I find that people can handle even bad news much better than conveyed with an element of truth, sincerity, and concern.
Now I also understand that concert promoters have profit as their main objective and are not in the business of caring necessarily. But especially in these tough economic times, regardless of the industry or sector of society, customer service and decency are more crucial than ever as we all have to be more discerning about where we spend our money.
I think that somewhere in this whole process that ball got dropped - it is not lost totally and there is time to pick it back up. Whether that means adding another act or acts we really wanted or just acknowledging that things did not go well...it will go a long, long way.
Just something to think about, "powers that be"
just my humble observations and musings. I'm looking forward to a good time regardless.

both bonnaroo and fuse are tweeting about more additions today.......just wait

What I originally thought after the clock went off at the last time at 8:48 is that Bonnaroo screwed us with the big artists.
After doing some digging, I think Bonnaroo got screwed by the artists.
I think they had 1 maybe 2 other big acts that dropped out at the last minute. If that's the case, Bonnaroo did a good job with the lineup. I wish they would just let the fans know if it's true & if they plan on getting a replacement.
I originally said that there would be no headliner sized artist additions unless someone dropped out like The Allman Brothers in 08. Well, I believe that some did drop out now...so my fingers are crossed

The Tweet did not say that...it says "more surprises today..." again, I hope it is more additions but probably not...did they really stay up all night and negotiate bands to release them today instead of yesterday? Maybe a few comedy acts...maybe a few time slots...but I doubt artist additions already. I bet they do have a few artists booked already and saving them a few weeks...311, etc...but will not send them out so soon; however sending them today would be great PR.

By the way, I was only talking about the top acts were a disappointment. The undercards are just great. I wanted some great electronic based artists this year and man my wish came true. They just need to add some roots reggae, some old blues, more latin (because I was excited hearing that there would be a latin tent), and MORE JAM. I'm not a huge jam fan whatsoever, but there needs to be at least 2 or three of them. There are virtually none.

If you think, as some people do, that Superfly and the powers that are reading the reactions to the lineup, then it is absolutely in their best interest to make some major additions, and as soon as possible.
