Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I think they better be careful saying that we have more surprises today. If the "surprise" isn't mindblowing, they will further infuriate their fanbase. Remember Bonnaroo's "big announcement" in 08 turned out to be WSP and everyone was pissed.
I'm not even a huge jam fan, though enjoy chilling to it at fests, but it seems ridiculous how lacking they are on that...seems like they would realize that might alienate a fairly significant part of Bonnaroo's fan base

I'll bet you a buffalo nickel that the "surprises" are the bands that were confirmed yesterday (e.g. 311, Allison Krauss, JBT) that did not make it on the initial announcement. Just wait and see...
This is exactly what I am talking about...I would LOVE to see MMJ and Pavement, but WHY GET OUR HOPES UP? Why set yourself up for disappointment? What benefit would it be for Superfly/AC to withold those acts from us at the initial lineup release? There isn't one...
If you think, as some people do, that Superfly and the powers that are reading the reactions to the lineup, then it is absolutely in their best interest to make some major additions, and as soon as possible.
I agree with you 100%, I work in PR and I hope Superfly/AC's team is working urgently to fix this. If not, then they are paying a lot of money for an awful PR team...
If it was me, I would have already released the names of the bands and comedy acts they are holding back (I am assuming they are)...and am on the phones like crazy trying to get better names.

i guess we should all keep in mind that "more surprises" does not necessarily mean additions to the lineup. maybe it's about changes to the fest or something.
I think the damage is done unless they drop some big names in the next week. We had a whole bachelor party coming down. Not now. We will be doing something else. Imagine the things you can do with 10+ guys will to dropp 800 dollars for a weekend.
Here's my idea... They should just call up Clapton and say.. "Dude we messed up big time. Would you mind just taking the Crossroads festival and doing it on Sunday here in Manchester?" I mean look at Clapton's Crossroads Lineup. It's only one day and it's 50 times better then Roo's!
By the way, I was only talking about the top acts were a disappointment. The undercards are just great. I wanted some great electronic based artists this year and man my wish came true. They just need to add some roots reggae, some old blues, more latin (because I was excited hearing that there would be a latin tent), and MORE JAM. I'm not a huge jam fan whatsoever, but there needs to be at least 2 or three of them. There are virtually none.
The Latin Tent would be a wonderful addition, but all they seem to have is Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes. I could be wrong, but I don't recall Roo ever having more than one or two Latin acts a year (and that's counting Manu Chao as a "latin act"). For such a "diverse" fest, I'm surprised they haven't made an in-road there. I'm particularly not sure how the hell Calle 13 isn't on the roster. Sweep the latin Grammys (means there's an audience who will buy tickets just to see them), they are respected, incredible live, and even collaborate with Ruben Blades for crying out loud. That's sort of like David Byrne working with the Dirty Projectors on "Knotty Pine" if an indie rock analogy is needed.

i wouldnt say that, but ec certainly has connects in his friends.

This is the first time since 07 that Bonnaroo hasn't had a headlining metal act. 07 it was Tool, 08 Metallica, 09 Nine Inch Nails, and in 2010 we have.....Gwar? Don't get me wrong, I like Gwar and would love to see them live, but it's bullshit if their shafting us on a big name hard rock/heavy metal act.

yeah but the "big surprise" in 07 was JPJ, Ben Harper, ?uestlove super jam...

zenfnp is right.
All I really want to know is the truth. Did some bigger acts really back out? (And I'm starting to think this is a big possibility.) If so, is there a chance of getting a bigger name add on?
From what I read, Bonnaroo itself wasn't the only one that said this year was going to be off the charts (not in those exact words). That, plus the insane buildup, leads me to believe they really did think they had something great in store.
We do have to consider the possibility that AC/Superfly DO think this lineup is off the charts and that we are the ones who psyched ourselves out for nothing. A lot of it isn't bad after all, I'll give them that. Still:
-Artist of the Year or no Artist of the Year (Tennesseans or no) Kings of Leon is not a suitable follow up for Bruce, Phish and the Beastie Boys. They also don't fit in with Metallica, Tool, The Police, etc. Whether you like them or not, they simply don't have the catalog to command an unopposed headlining spot, and there's no getting around that.
-It is simply not good PR to tease bands like the Rolling Stones or the Who or Paul Simon or Roger Waters, etc. if you are not going to present something (at least one name) of equal status. Stevie Wonder may be legendary, but I'm gonna say a step down from those. It is one thing for this board and fans to hype themselves up, which makes a let down really our own fault, but it is quite another for the organizers to play that game. Mostly because a let down like that generally leads to people being bitter, and holding grudges. Unless of course most of their sales are made before announcements, which I'm gonna go out on a limb and say is not the case, then it doesn't matter as much.
-For people who have been in the music business for so long, it seems kind of ignorant to talk up Bonnaroo when the lineup they're so excited to announce shares a lot of the same acts with a "lesser" festival whose lineup was announced previously. How is that a win for Bonnaroo in their minds?
Regarding Bonnaroo's latest Tweet - I'm hoping for some artist additions as well.
Even though Alex from CoS came on here yesterday and apologized for being wrong about a lot of big names, they still have Neil Young listed under expected with a bunch of bands that confirmed themselves but weren't on the initial lineup on MySpace. I think there has to be some reason they still believe he is "expected" when the other bands have been moved to the rumor section.
Neil Young or no Neil Young, I think something big is coming in the next couple of months. If it doesn't, though, I'll still have fun at DMB, at many of the bands I'm already excited to see, and even the ones I haven't discovered yet.
I got off on a tangent and forgot to add thoughts on this.
Even if AC/Superfly thought this lineup was amazing, they have to be reading these reactions. While some are good, a good portion are completely disappointed. One would think that with all these festies being canceled that it would be in their best interest to FIX IT. Or at least try and fix it.
You can't please EVERYONE, but for a lot of people, it seems the addition of one big name and one or two mid-names would make a world of difference. That wouldn't be all that hard to try for I wouldn't think.
I am not that concerned about the lack of 'big name' headliners. I don't really care anything about seeing DMB, KOL or Jay Z - but there are a ton of 'mid-level' acts that I would love to see & are worth the price of admission. I've been to Roo many times &, in my experience, it's kinda nice being able to take a break & relax back at camp during the headliner time slot. The late night shows are usually where it's at anyway so it's nice to have a break before the real craziness gets started! I still anticipate them adding another 'big' name or two - I see Jay Z as a late night show & I still can't wrap my head around KOL being a headliner - I just don't see it. Other omissions that will hopefully be added - MMJ, Trey Band, Further, Dylan

furthur and MMJ additions would make me do a 180 on this lineup and say its completely worth the money and traveling

so i know we just got the lineup yesterday, but its only fitting for us greedy roo goers to ask when they are making the additions. So without further adeu... Does anyone know when they made additions last year? Should we expect them to match how many artists they had last year? Since there is only 80 or so bands announced and with the usualy 10-15 comedy acts should we really be expecting another 30-35 bands to be on the bill?
I would believe so.
In my opinion this lineup, while being lackluster, isnt bad enough for me NOT to go to roo. Like someone said before... its the party and the experience. It will be fun having a more open schedule to meander and stumble across a great act.
i was reading the CoS interview with ashley capps today and she mentioned that one of the headliners wasn't around 10 years ago making me think that KoL is definitely going to be an unopposed headliner unfortuantly...this was very dissapointing to see that said
everybody saying "they aren't done with the line-up yet" - whats the biggest name they've added later on? chris rock. not a band. not a headliner. a comedian.
Ummmm Neil Young? Public Enemy? Phoenix? Les Claypool? Stephen Marley? All late additions
exactly. chris rock is bigger than all of those. and none of them could do much to save the line up for me/are already on the lineup
