Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
the brothers just got back together for their 20th anniversary. if you haven't seen them live, they are excellent - and they have a long history of playing at huge european festies like glastonbury.
There are talking of Soundgarden reuniting. Possibly a main headliner (or at least a Which Stage headliner)? Hard to tell how big they'll be when they come back, or even if they will (Matt Cameron is now with PJ...)
David Bowie would be interesting. It would be a HUGE slap in the face to Coachella, which I think that 'Roo might be aiming for.
This is my first post on this site but I have been to bonnaroo 4 times and I have to say anyone who doesnt want to see Dave Matthews at Bonnaroo is crazy it was the best set I've seen there.
There has always been a big contingent of DMB haters here -- don't take it to heart! Back in 05 I remember being part of a debate about whether they were a "jam band" or not!!!
I agree that their set was great, coming in at close to three hours and including Robert Randolph and Warren Haynes. Most of the grumbling about them being there died out after folks got a chance to actually see and hear them instead of judging them based on a portion of their fan base (aka, "white hats").
Besides, no band is going to be everyone's idea of a good Bonnaroo headliner so we'll always have disagreements about it.

Well since MMJ is going on hiatus I suppose I need a new headliner...
Fri - Iron Maiden Sat - Daft Punk Sun - David Bowie
Substitute Flaming Lips, Rush, The Cure, or maybe Bjork in for the first slot if you despise metal.
I think you could see this Fri - Daft Punk (Day when everybody has the most energy and would be a great kick off into Friday Late Night) Sat- Bowie (Would be the biggest headliner Bonnaroo ever got, the bigger more established artists always play Saturday) Sun- The Cure or Bjork (Both would be big enough to headline and would be a nice change of pace for the festival)
This lineup would sell a bunch of tickets without needing a DMB or the Dead.
Is Daft Punk REALLY that universally liked to headline?
I was going to say something like this.
I don't think they are known well enough to headline. As much as people will hate to hear this - they aren't mainstream enough. When you hear who headlines Roo it's generally people who almost anyone has heard of....even if they don't know their music.
I could say to my mom that Tool is headlining or that Radiohead is headlining, or that Metallica, or Pearl Jam, or Tom Petty, etc etc, and she would at least know OF the band.
But I think a lot of people (Americans at least) don't exactly know who Daft Punk are.
I just don't see them as headliners. Maybe an epic late night but IDK.
If it were RATM I'd be there in a heart beat. The White Stripes, Radiohead, or Tool would also bring me. Other stuff on there that I'd love, Sonic Youth or Spoon on the Which Stages.

I've never heard of Daft Punk anywhere other than on this board. And I'm quite sure my mother has no idea who they or Tool are.

If you have never heard of Daft Punk before, you probably don't follow the mainstream enough. They were huge after Kanye sampled "Harder Better Faster Stronger", and performed with him on some awards show. That song, "One More Time", "Digital Love", huge staples of most anyone's playlist after that. They pretty much exploded overnight from my perspective, though they had a sound following beforehand.
Friday - 1st set : White Stripes 2nd set : Raconteurs Saturday - U2 Sunday - Led Zeppelin
is would SOOO put up with a U2 set for this to happen.
I would ask for U2 for this to happen. That would be sick. Also I would love to see Jack White doing a two set headliner. That is the best thinking outside the box original idea I have heard so far.
They aren't really a very relevant act anymore and I just don't see Bonnaroo putting that out into the international community as a headliner when they seem to be in constant competition with Coachella and Lollapalooza for the title of best US Festival. (And, FTR, I think Roo consistently wins that competition.)
I could see them as a preheadliner or oossibly Which daytime closer, maybe, but not as an artist expected to draw and hold 80K fans. I don't know that they are the type of act that really gets the organizers the buzz that they desire to sell tickets.
Don't get me wrong, I like "Tom Sawyer" and "Fly By Night" as much as the next person coming of age in the early 80's but I don't think I'm their target demographic. I know, the argument is that Phish and Bruce aren't exactly Generation Next draws either but Phish is clearly one of the strongest draws for Roo's base and Bruce is an icon. Rush isn't even a lock to make the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
To me, this all adds up to them not being Superfly/AC's idea of a headliner. Just my two cents...
As far as Daft Punk goes, I see them as a Late Night Which show. I see them as being pretty well known, but not "captivate 70K+ for two or three hours, build your festival around them" big.
As far as Bowie goes, I agree that he's an icon and a Roo headliner but not "biggest headliner Bonnaroo ever got." Certainly not bigger than Springsteen, The Dead or, as forgettable as their set was, The Police.

I would say that on a global scale and in terms of life time achievement vs. the now, Bowie dwarfs all of those acts combined. Only Springsteen can come close in terms of prolificness and he doesn't hold a candle to Bowie in terms of diversity and self reinvention. Just look at the list of who Bowie has worked with: Lou Reed, John Lennon, Mick Jagger (actually the stones as whole), Robert Fripp, Pete Townshend, Queen, NIN, Brian Eno, Peter Frampton, SRV (before he was famous), Bing Crosby, Iggy Pop, Tina Turner.... The list goes on.
