i think he was referring to the question about if it was tenacious d
U2 was taken off the rumored thread awhile ago at CoS. there was nothing given as to why, just that Alex was not hearing anything that suggested they'd be there.
Gorillaz, again not ruled out, but its pretty unlikely they do 2 US fests.
also we were told we were getting one of Coachella's headliners, and from a source on the boards who was pretty damn reliable last year, hes pointing towards Jay-Z
he confirmed KOL on fri and DMB on sun. also steered us in the direction with out confirming Stevie Wonder into Jay-Z on sat(same type of thing as Jack Johnson into Pearl Jam)
and now its lookin like Tenacious D. not sure who thats from, but Airline is telling us this. I know insider said he knew one other act that was more fun then good, so that appears to be Tenacious D

Can't we get a headliner no one else has gotten in the past year? Is the pool that small right now?
No, but the one area where Bonnaroo has been increasingly unwilling to diversify is the headliners. The first 4 years of the festival didn't feature any headliners that weren't either a jamband or classic rock (and even then, only Neil Young wasn't a jamband, and yes, I'm lumping DMB in with the jambands, sorry folks). Even as the undercard got very diverse, they were slow to expand the same thinking to the headliners - so you'd get Radiohead, but also boring touring warhorses like Tom Petty. You'd get Tool, but also WSP. I would say that 2008 was actually their most daring year, with two headlining slots being taken up by unorthodox (for Bonnaroo's standards) bands in Pearl Jam and Metallica.
Since Bonnaroo seems unwilling to let go of it's jam roots, and those jam fans who are very narrow minded in that unless it's a jamband or classic rock, they don't like it, they have also been unwilling to take risks with booking. That's why Coachella might take a chance on a band like Gorillaz being able to headline, while Bonnaroo will play it safe with something like Kings of Leon.
For whatever reason, Bonnaroo/Superfly seems to think that by playing it safe with recognizable, widely-popular, "safe" touring draws (i.e. bands that tour all the time and consistently draw crowds) they are ensuring success. Rather, they are merely ensuring that the festival grows stale and complacent. For instance, something like Kings of Leon/ Furthur/ Dave Matthews Band would undoubtedly sell a decent amount of tickets, but who's to say that a more unorthodox lineup of The White Stripes/ Jay-Z/ My Morning Jacket wouldn't also do the same?
Corporate numbers and statistics. Can't ague with facts... Facts Kill Art imo...

I don't think the White Stripes/Jay-Z/MMJ is any more unorthodox than KoL/Furthur/DMB. Jay-Z and White Stripes are as big as it gets. MMJ has been around enough now that everybody likes them, I've never never never heard of anybody hatin on that band. KoL and DMB are equally mainstream with Jay-Z and White Stripes, but Furthur? Most people don't know the name, I guess if they figure out who's in the band then it's a different story.
I grew up worshipping Rock and Roll like a religion. I know its shortcomings and strengths but have loved it unconditionally all the same since I was eight-years old. I ran away and joined the circus and honestly, I'm still as obsessed as I was as a boy. I'm not a kid anymore but I still remember how it felt and it doesn't really feel all that different to me now.
so i went and watched as much of jay-z's glasto set as i could find on youtube, and he clearly has the best stage band of any mainstream hip hop artist that i have ever seen. he also brings with him the potential of several top notch guests, which is always cool. however...
it's hard to single out any one rapper, besides master p perhaps, that has had more to do with the emergence of the uber shallow money/cars/hos motif that i hate so much about "modern" hip hop. he may be a world class showman, but i really don't like what he represents in that sense. to me, he's basically the best of the worst that the genre has to offer.
i already have my ticket, and im going regardless of the headliners, but i'm gonna be pretty damn disappointed with that kind of thing headlining saturday night at the roo. just my luck, the one year roo decides to share a headliner w/ coachella, it's someone i couldn't care less about seeing. where was this crossover action with rage, or macca or prince or daft punk? siiiiiiiigh.
I think some people need to go listen to Reasonable Doubt and The Blueprint.
Wouldn't hurt to pick up copies of The Black Album/The Grey Album either.
dl'd the entire discography a few years back. im not trying to say he doesn't have some good songs, but the ones he is most famous for, and the ones i would expect most to hear in concert, mostly leave me cold.
