My first two shows as well, blew my mind!! I'd say that the only show I've seen that comes close to the awesomeness level of Phish was Radiohead in '06. Honestly, I'm not sure which was better, but they are now, without a doubt, my two favorite bands.
Good lord, the GLOWSTICKS! The whole band sounded amazing, they were really tight, i thought. Just wish they would have played bouncing round the room. i would have gone (more) nuts.

First Phish shows here, watched some Friday but left to catch other acts, watched ALL Sunday and was blown away. Glow Stick wars just didn't end. There was an endless supply it was amazing!
Were you the guy who was jerking off while waiting in line to use the bathroom when Bruce came out on stage?
negative
Hahaha! I don't think anyone while in their right minds would admit to being that person. On the other hand, they wouldn't know what you were talking about if they weren't.

My first two shows as well and I am now a fan for life. I now understand why people would follow this band around the country for an entire year. I really dont think ive ever experienced anything like it live, I was taken to a whole other world during Rock and Roll>Light.
overall: friday was great. but u know that guy that all of a sudden just passes out and everyone is like whoa!! is he alright? i was 'that guy'. corn was weird that night. plus a little disappointed they ended right at 2 instead of going over, but all in all a great setlist.
sunday was amazing. i couldnt stop dancing despite my aching feet and lower back. first time seeing the sunday closing headliner show since 06 and it really did wrap up the weekend in the greatest light possible, making you completely ignore or forget all of the hardships you endure. if phish became the new widespread panic and headlined bonnaroo every other year i would be completely ok with that.
edit: not saying that WSP is better or greater than phish, just saying that now that phish is back, they really could take over WSP's role as the 'every other year' jam headliner.

Ive been a fan for a few years now, but It was my first show. Friday was a better musical show personally - though sunday was more religious for me. Only problem with sunday was this giant octopus that was always over my head sucking my brains out. Whoever brought that is a genius. Also the pirate was cool to hold
My first Phish show(s) as well.... they had me have way thru the first song, that was a great experience and now i see what the hype was all about over the years.
the sound and lighting were superb, at some points the stage looked like a giant spaceship...super cool, and the glow sticks, wow...
question - how did they keep throwing up so many at a time? do hippies just have really big hands??

agreed.....my lucky charm helped me out on Sunday.....yellow hearts, purple moons.....pink stars

Yes. The glow sticks were very cool.
Theres a video I took. Ended up lasting a whole lot longer before it subsided for a song or two.

I intentionally limited my Phish listening before Roo. I had in my head that these guys were good for what they were, but not something I would listen to =on aregular basis. I'd listened to the Farmhouse album once, as well as a few randomly downloaded mp3s that went on my Bonnaroo mix compilation. I decided I wanted to go into these shows in the right frame of mind and have my first real experience with them the way they were ment to be enjoyed.
I have to say that these two shows were without a doubt the best live performances I have ever seen. There were times that I literally stood in open-mouthed amazement at what I was hearing and seeing before me, and that's not just because I had nommed a good amount of corn either. I even found myself singing along with songs I had never heard before. The light show was phenomenal, and the music was out of this world. Count me in as a newly converted Phan.

Big props to Phish. I expected to leave early but I caught their Sunday show and really enjoyed it. Definitely not a band I would listen to. Meant to be seen live obviously and they don't translate well if you aren't there, in my opinion.
The second set got a little to self-indulgent for me but it let me sit down and rest for a minute.
First shows as well. Friday was in the 3rd row of the non-pit. Sunday was third row of the pit. Up close and personal it was a life changing experience. Phish fans are the best. The crowd, lights, and band work so well together, its unlike any other concert i've ever been to.
i saw phish on sunday for the first time and i had a GREAT time even though i've never really liked jam bands. i thought it was great, they really know how to work a crowd. just the energy of the set was incredible, from the band to the audience.

I'm very surprised and delighted by how many non-Phish fans have said they enjoyed the shows. I've always viewed them as above the jamband label (epithet?), and it's nice to actually see how they can cross boundaries and be enjoyed by people of many stripes.

word. i remember wondering during both shows whether non-fans were digging it or were just annoyed.

Answer - You collect the glow sticks throughout the show in your pocket or bag and if you know the songs well you know when the nice breakdowns and lights will arrive - and when they come to launch lines of happiness into the air
